Could be the worst restaurant in Oregon. Too busy to eat until our trip home so we stopped here on the way, expecting solid small-town diner food. Instead we got the worst omelette I've ever had (no cheese, 3 small pieces of tomato, overcooked fried onions and black olives wrapped taco style in 3 eggs). Â Omelette came coated in grill char and tasted like meat juice. The hashbrowns were completely full of oil and tasted like cheap cooking oil. I had 5 bites and started feeling sick. My husband is convinced that the last bite of his tartar sauce had animal droppings in it. To top it off, the cook kept walking across the room leering at me and the waitresses seemed miserable. Considering we were the only ones in there, service was slow and they forgot to bring us our coffee, which was so weak it was basically brown water. When we got back to town we told our friend we had the worst meal ever at a place called the Cedars and he said "Wait, is that in Detroit? That place is gross!!"
Review Source:The food is descent and the prices are very reasonable for what you get.
They were out of the first two beers I asked for (Hef and Blue Moon) , which was disappointing, and i had to remind them i ordered a beer. Â However someone came by the table often enough to check on us that it wasn't tt big of a deal.
I had theSouthwestern Burger, which I found to be great. Â The fries are just good enough that you dont need ketchup while they are still hot, but once they cool down you will need ketchup if you want to finish them.
I'd stop here again if i am massing that way.
Glad I didn't listen to the other yelpers and we tried this place. My husband and I ordered the garden burger and Reuben respectively. My husband upgraded to the cross cut fries and they were great and my garden burger was great, they made it into a neat and tidy wrap for me at no extra charge! The food was made promptly, was not greasy and everything was very good. I couldn't think of anything to knock down it from a 5 star rating. Good clean food, quaint atmosphere, friendly server and just a good experience overall, what more can you ask from a restaurant. Thumbs up The Cedars, keep up the good work feeding us hungry travelers a good meal!
Review Source:I thought the reviews were a little harsh for this place. Â It wasn't that bad. Â I came in with a party of six so they had us sit at a table in the bar. Â The server hustled his butt off to serve us and was timely with everything. Â
I suggest the hamburgers and Onion rings as other reviews stated. Â That was the right call for this place. Â The only bad meal at our table was the Taco Salad my wife ordered. Â Big mistake, stay away from that one....pretty bad. Â Â But the rest of my party all enjoyed the burgers very much.
this place is horrible with service and greasy food i waited an hour and 15 minutes to get a dam basket of greasy onion rings and semi done chicken nuggets and i had to hunt down someone to get a dam refill on my soda and meanwhile while i waited i get to watch new ppl coming in get served more than what i had asked for first. Then the bill was 16 bucks i was like WTF so when the waitress asked was everything i said the truth just horrible only pleasant thing was she ripped up my bill thats it.
Review Source:Four of us went for dinner because the locals recommended it and they are one of the few places that are actually open for food later on. We arrived for an early dinner and there were less than 10 other people in the restaurant. The waitress got our order, brought us our food and then never returned. We didn't get refills or anything. I had to get the other waitress (on her break) to ring us out.
To say the food was mediocre is to say the least. Maybe living in cities with great food has made us a little snobby but I would say that the 2.5 stars on Yelp is a good indication that you shouldn't waste too much money here. One of the girls could barely choke down some of her "nachos" and thankfully the girl took them off our tab.
I understand having minimal options in a small area like Detroit Lake, but that's no excuse for bad/no service.
Stick with the breakfast, maybe that's their forte?
Stick with breakfast, the tuna melt or a burger. Â We were hungry and this filled the need. Â But I wish we would have selected another place in town. Â
Service was slow, but with only one person taking orders that was bound to happen. Â They were busy and had two people working the restaurant. Â The place seemed dirty. Â This was a favorite stop of mine on the trip to Bend. Â That was likely my last time at the Cedars.
Just keep driving. Â Unless you absolutely love NASTY food with no taste and horrible, cow-poke, "I'm stuck doing this" service, you'd be smart to just keep on driving. Â That's right. Â Nothing to see here, folks. Â Stop by the little market next door and pick up some fruit and a bagel. Â Or simply go hungry. Â Either choice is the better option. Â The food here sucks. Â Period.
Review Source:I didn't walk into this place thinking I was going to get a gourmet meal. Â I guess I left there knowing I didn't get one.
Another on a stop around Oregon while my dad is in town visiting. Â We were on our way back to Portland from Bend and the lunch stop choices were slim to none. Â Driving through Detriot, we chose this place from the few others in town.
I think I should have ordered a hamburger. Â They looked pretty good coming out of the kitchen. Â Instead, I decided to go with the roast beef and mashed potatoes. Â That came with a choice of soup or salad. Â Went with the soup which was black bean and sausage. Â Very tasty. Â With that I had high expectations. Â They weren't fulfilled. Â The roast beef was on the well done side and dry. Â I'm not a gravy person so I loaded it up with hot sauce. Â That seemed to help the roast beef some.
The service was pretty decent here and they tried and that is why I didn't give this place my first 2 star review. Â If you are heading north on 22, there are probably better places to eat, but the burgers might be the way to go here if you do stop in.
