This one's a home run!
Sharlene Trexler began cooking for their Christmas tree farm's work crews, several years ago, and the restaurant just kind of grew from there. The place doesn't look like much from the outside, but once you're through the door, your whole image of the place changes. Where practicable, they use local ingredients and products. Their specials and baked goods vary from day to day.
Today I ordered, from the menu, the Tribal Moose BBQ Tri Tip Beef Sandwich served on a Sourdough Roll with Pepper Jack Cheese, Tomato and Tribal Moose (made in Sublimity) Cranberry BBQ Sauce. It was a three napkin Sandwich, but wonderful. I chose Salad for my side. Picture the side Salad you get in a typical restaurant. Then pitch that mental image in the dumpster and check this out: It was actually two salads. The first was a visual masterpiece of miniature Red and Yellow Bell Pepper rings, in-the-pod Sweet Peas, Tomato, Cucumbers, Julienned Carrots, Arugula and, I think Baby Beet Greens. The other consisted of Pineapple, fresh Blueberries and fresh Mandarin Orange segments. Fantastic! Carol had their Chicken Rice Soup which was loaded with Veggies and very good.
As if my quivering taste buds were not sated enough by sensory overload, Sharlene tempted me with one of her individually sized Lemon-Blueberry Pound Cakes topped with Whipped Cream and sprinkled with Cinnamon. Lord have mercy! I'm not even going to try to describe it!
By the way, don't let the Stayton address throw you. It's really just a couple of miles west of Mehama. It's a little hard to find, so check the Map Quest map before you go.
