I drove for a weekend on the cape and stopped into this shop and restaurant. Â I had the chicken pie before on mail order and now wanted to go where they have them and other pies.
Seriously, Â this lunch ranks as one of the best things i ever ate. I had the lunch special slice of chicken pie, Â bbq pork pie, Â side of butternut squash. Â They give you chicken gravy, Â and cranberry sauce with it.
It tastes amazing. Â Chicken pie full of white chicken, Â amazing crust, Â the squash was incredible and the bbq pork.... Crazy good.
Did not have room for dessert.
I bought frozen pies to take home.
Now for those of you that want a chicken pot pie with veggies, Â please go elsewhere. Â You are paying for chicken, Â not vegetables and amazing crust and a freshness and taste you either never had or will remember from grandma or great grandmother.
Serve a salad or vegetable on the side with this, Â if you must. Â But don't ruin it for the rest of us that know a good new england chicken pie when we taste it by wanting it full of vegetables, Â no fat, calories, Â etc. Â This are the finest pies you can buy, Â and it ranks up there with s and s cheesecake and everything else you can't find in a grocery store and thought was gone in this overly processed world.
The restaurant by the way is a cute luncheonette with breakfast and lunch. Â Restrooms neat and you pass the kitchen on the way and it is spotless. Â All smells like pies baking. Â Homemade heaven.
Treat yourself to pies, Â lobster pie, Â clam pie, Â braised beef, Â chicken, buffalo chicken, Â shepards pie. Â All wonderful. Fruit pies great. Â I live there raspberry squares. Â Like having a mini pie!
Waitress and counter help in store very sweet and helpful. Â Kept drinks refilled. Â Wish I lived closer.
Best chicken pie ever. Spinach quiche is awesome. Â The crust is the best I've tasted.
Would get 5 stars except the crust contains "Partially Hydrogenated Oils". Â So my ,unfortunately, we will not buy more until they drop the "PHO". Â Then I'm back on board. Â Yes, I wrote them an email over three weeks ago..... Heard nothing back.
I was in Cape Cod for a day visiting from LA. I actually never really heard of this small local joint until I did some foodie search via Yelp and found out Oprah listed their Chicken Pot Pie as one of her FAVORITE THINGS 2 years in a row. I figure if it's good enough for Oprah, it's good enough for me and so I took my mom to eat lunch here.
Upon entering, you realize it is a small local restaurant with very limited seating. We got seated right away. It wasn't packed with tourist but more with locals...mainly older locals. I didn't mind. It's nice to find a diamond in the rough where it isn't always fully packed and you have to wait an hour. Â They have a ton of choices including your basic breakfast items and other stuff but I came in here for the pies and only the pies.
We ordered their famous Chicken Pot Pie as well as their Shepherd's Pie. I'm not a fan of either on any given day but their pies just converted me instantly with one bite! It was simply amazing! So rich with flavor and made with homemade love. It was delicious and both my mom and I were super impressed with their pies. I wish I could have tried them all!
We also got their Cape Cod Krunch Pie which was perfect! Not overly sweet like most pies can be.
The owners were super nice and I even chatted with them for a few minutes. Service was great and fast. Price is super reasonable for the quality of the pies you are getting. I hope and pray that one day they somehow branch out and serve their pies closer to Southern California. If not, then I guess one day I'll have to make another trip to Cape Cod for their wonderful pies. I loved it so damn much!
Thank you Centerville Pie Company for making such wonderful pies!
This is a review for the pie shop, which is next door to the cafe. I love pies, but have a hard time getting them just right myself. Fruit is especially unkind if you are not a 'pie' whiz....if you don't adjust the sugar/tapioca or flour correctly to be sure the taste and juiciness of the fruit is right, the pie misses the mark. On our last trip to the Cape, I bought a pie at another pie shop and it was good. However, always on the hunt for great pies, I checked the internet for other places near our destination. Up popped Centerville Pie Co, with glowing reviews. I loved the story of Oprah coming to town and the owner dropping off some pies at her hotel. The rest is history, so they say. Naturally, I had to try their products for myself. So, we detoured on our way to Boston. We opted to buy pies to take home, rather than eat in their cafe. The pie shop is a small venue, with ready made pies, frozen pies, and other baked goods. We bought a baked chicken pie...it wasn't until after the woman went to the cafe to retrieve it that I noticed a sign that said they need advance notice for a prebaked chicken pie. Oops! (Thank you for not saying no to my request!). We also bought a lattice topped peach pie. We had a 'pie' dinner that night. The pies(and crusts!) were delicious! My husband, who isn't all that fond of chicken, had seconds. My daughter(who is a young adult in a demanding profession) reverted to her childhood habit of licking the plate! Now that's about the highest praise she can give, especially since even as a young child she was a 'foodie'. I had to laugh when she did that! The peach pie was delicious, too, Let me just say that for most pies, I leave the crust on the plate. This crust was not left on the plate, it was so good! Make the trip to Centerville, and try their products for yourself. You will be glad you did! Enjoy!
Review Source:Do you like pies? Â Savory? Â Sweet? It really doesn't matter because it's all good. The Chicken Pie is honestly the best chicken pie I've ever had. Â Their spinach & feta quiche was super good, also their egg breakfasts and grilled English muffins were very tasty. Â A friend got an egg sandwich that looked huge and he devoured it and sang it's praises. Â Oprah loves this place because there are pictures of her with the owners all over. Â One down side is that there isn't a lot of seating, only a few tables and a few counter seats, but the service is quick and I'm sure if you can't get a table pretty quickly.
Review Source:Having lived in MA for seven years (and enjoying these pies since they opened the business) one of the things we knew we would miss after our move to North Carolina, would be the Centerville Pies.  We have received two shipments so far and they arrive frozen solid and taste as wonderful as what we used get at the store.  Nothing beats a Centerville Pie after a long day at work when you don't have the energy to cook but really want something home made and yummy (my favorite is the sweet potatoe Shepard pie).  The house smells great while they bake and your taste buds do a happy dance when you are eating them.  Two added bonuses  - they are great as a grab and go lunch leftover the next day and the little styrofoam coolers they ship in are great  for a day trip or garage storage.  Thanks Centerville Pie for coming to Carolina with us!
Review Source:Thank God our B&B host watches Oprah! He pointed us to Centerville Pie Co. While they make a quiet statement in their setting, they speak quite loudly with their pies. My daughter and I savored Chicken Pot, strawberry rhubarb, and berry pies. Service was so-so. Was it worthy of a spot on Oprah? I'm not convinced...but, I can still taste that rhubarb...
Review Source:I went to a luncheon / pot luck where someone brought a strawberry rhubarb pie from Centerville Pie Company. I was excited to try it since it was endorsed by Miss Oprah. Well, the crust was ok..the filling, eh..bland, no tangy taste..sort of mediocre...just ok...nothing to be wowed about, sorry.
Review Source:I found this place on my phone and was excited to go as I love to bake and love pies. The girl at the counter had a major attitude and I became turned off almost immediately. Â I do think the chicken pie is good and the chocolate cream pie is very good however, the fruit pies are average. The prices are outrageous for the product. Â Overall, save your money and bake a pie at home
Review Source:I had their Chicken Pot Pie recently.... Â One of my neighbors mail ordered it and had us over for dinner...
It was very good but... Â I can see why Oprah has a problem controlling her figure if she is eating these... Â One serving had enough sodium to kill a small pony and was a semi heart stopper with the fat...
That being said... Â It tasted good
Yes, the pies are great, BUT, I don't find them any better than the Chicken Pies that WIMPY'S in Osterville has been deliciously serving up for YEARS there, to their many, faithful fans. Â I actually think the gravy at Wimpy's is even better. Â They add too much salt to it at C'Ville. Â If you're not a salt fan, like me, that kills it right off. Â Pies are the same prices as Wimpy's & both places offer the smaller sizes for half the price of the large pies. Â Wimpy's is ALWAYS ALL WHITE MEAT, so no guessing how much of the pie will be white, like at C'Ville. Â I put them about even, with the edge to WIMPY'S, b/c of the always white meat & less salt in the tasty gravy. Â Pies are always stuffed well there too, so never a disappointment w/not having enough filling in there. Â Also, you can't beat the lunch & dinner take out specials, daily at WIMPY'S. Â Superb food & Great Value!
Always fast, friendly service from everyone who works there too.
If OPRAH was in O'Ville, she would have put WIMPY's on the map, w/their Fabulous Pies, just as sure as she did C'Ville. Â
I agree, with the high demand, the high quality has gone a bit by the way side. Â But over all, still a good pie, for sure. Â Just not the 'best' on the Cape.
I live here, so I know.... Â WIMPY'S will ship for you too.
If you're not sure, I say try them both & you decide who has the better Chicken Pie.
We drove down here from Lynn one Saturday morning after hearing about Centerville Pie Co. on Kiss 108. Â We placed an order ahead of time, for a famous chicken pie, a meat pie, a clam pie, and a chocolate chip cookie. Â
I must say I could not figure out what all the fuss is about, especially the Oprah buzz. Â Maybe they have got too big and the quality is not as great? Â The gravy had no taste whatsoever, the pie crust for the Chicken pie was good, not outstanding but definitely tasty. Â The actual chicken left a lot to be desired, dark mean and white meat, not at all stuffed to the brim and not with a lot of taste/seasoning. Â The chocolate chip cookie pie was good, but very dry. Â The clam pie, not sure what I was expecting, but it was pretty uneventful, and like the other savories, pretty tasteless. Â
Really Oprah?? Definitely not worth the 3 hour drive time roundtrip. Â I somehow thought going directly there we would get the best quality as opposed to ordering the outrageouns prices through Harry and David. Â Not worth my gas.
Dee-licious! Â My "mil" ordered pie for my family after seeing the review on Oprah. Â Needless to say, we loved it! Â Even though I thought the pie crust was the best I'd ever had, it was flat - I felt it needed a hint of salt to give it that melt in your mouth extra flavor. Â Also, we were all disappointed that there were no vegetables in the pie. Â I just assumed there would be, so I didn't not prepare any side dishes. Â I would suggest maybe adding carrots for flavor as well as color. Â We are not pea fans. Â But, other than that I thought for a packaged pie, it was as good as anything I would serve my family and I make everything from scratch. Â As a baker I did not feel prices were out of line considering the quality of the meal - shipping charges, however, were a bit steep. Â But,all in all I will be ordering the next time.... Â
Good luck to you!!
Like others, I ordered after having seen them on Oprah and they arrived nicely packed from Harry and David. Â While the taste is very good, I was really disappointed that there were no vegetables. Â I've never had a pot pie without vegetables and it's a little dry and colorless without them. Â LOVE the pastry, though! Â If they would add some vegetables, cut the chicken chunks a little smaller, Â and add more gravy it would be perfect!
Review Source:I love Centerville Pie Company, Â we have had several great breakfasts here, and they have the very best chicken pot pies!!!
I try and make this my last stop on the Cape to pick up a couple of chicken pot pies for the freezer at home. They make the very best dinner when you don't feel like cooking, they come with an awesome gravy. Â Add some mashed potatoes and a vegetable and you have an incredible dinner.
Small pies easily feed two very hungry people, with no side dishes, more if you add potatoes and vegetable.. The larger pie is for a hungry family.
I have had two different desert pies, apple and lemon meringue both were great!!
The owners and staff are always really friendly and happy to see everyone.
Go you won't be disappointed actually you will thank me and want to send me pie!!
Centerville Pie Company has inherited the chicken pie recipe from the old Centerville Pastry Shop, and the results are great. On my way to get the chicken pie, I walked by the blueberry apple pies, and had to grab one of those as well - a good decision, the folks at home agreed.
The pies aren't cheap - you pay for quality - but they're not outrageous by any means. Compare them to the price of a decent pizza and suddenly they seem like a bargain.
Two interesting back stories: Apparently Oprah discovered these pies while she was in town for a Kennedy funeral, and has been having them sent back to Chicago ever since. Also, Centerville Pie Company has a collaboration with CapeAbilities, which helps provide jobs and other services to folks with mental disabilities - which means these excellent pies provide a great community service, too.
They're open for breakfast and lunch - they close at 6pm, so get there early if you're planning on bringing home dinner.
Stopping for lunch on the drive down to Provincetown was a must with the one-year-old in the back seat. He was at his limit, and my head was about to explode, so we pulled off route 6 to find a lunch spot despite the fact that we didn't see any signs for food.
We drove for about 5 miles before we hit on a stretch of road with a  few strip malls, and we pulled into a parking lot with a pizza joint, intending to stop there.
But then the small Centerville Pie Co. sign caught my eye, and there was no chance we were going to settle for pizza pie.
This place was a real jewel. We ate delicious food cooked right in front of us at the grill. I had a fabulous fresh spinach and cheese quiche, the baby had grilled cheese with tomato, and my husband ate an omelet. The owner/head baker then came out of the kitchen with fresh flaky turnovers for us. She said we'd be her guinea pigs for a new recipe she was testing, and we gladly accepted the job. They were buttery, warm, flaky cherry-filled delights.
But the best part of the meal was the warm blueberry pie with a scoop of vanilla. The crust was delectable, the filling divine.
This was one of the most pleasant lunch experiences I have ever had.
