I'm so happy I decided to walk around Port Jefferson and stumbled across this place. Â I ordered the surprise sampler plate that came with 7 assorted cheeses and thinly sliced baguette bread. I ordered a delicious chutney, olives and grapes on the side. Out of the 7 cheeses there was one that I wasn't a huge fan of but the others I was in love with which is amazing considering I usually like 1 or 2 on a surprise tasting. I was very happy with the quality of the selection and how well they paired with the chutney and grapes.
They have a board that lists the sandwiches , salads, cheeses, meats, and beer/ wines they sell. If you're not to familiar with how it all works or what to pick the staff are very friendly and helpful in guiding you down the right path.
I also liked how you have a choice of high top tables for two or the lower tables that could seat more and in the back they have an area that can seat larger parties.
I was very pleased with this place and wish it was closer to home.
I just moved out to Port Jefferson and thought I'd give C'est Cheese a try because I love cheese and it looked like a nice place for lunch.
Their sandwiches are great. Their cheeses are amazing. And most importantly for me, their coffee was top notch. I definitely recommend this place to anyone who likes good service, cheese and sandwiches, and nice ambiance.
I hear they have live music on Fridays, so I guess next time I'll have to go check that out.
This is one of my favorite places to visit every time I take the Port Jeff ferry over from CT. Â The cheeses are AMAZING! Â The first time I was there I went on a date and let the employee pick out our cheese board. Â I told him what I liked by way of flavor, creaminess, etc and let him pick out what was going to be put on the board. Â I was so impressed I have gone back several times and love it more each time I go. Â They have a small wine and beer selection to choose from as well. Â When in doubt let the staff make your picks for you! Â You WON'T be disappointed!!!
Review Source:Without a doubt, the best cheese house on the island.
First things first... I'm blown away by the enormous selection of cheese they offer! The quality and options they have to choose from is by far the best of any cheese shop I've been to on long island.
The staff is very knowledgeable of the products they are selling. There's no stupid questions here.. Feel free to ask about any of their offerings and the guys behind the counter will explain just about everything there is to know about the product. The management has gone as far as to put in special orders for past products we wanted that they no longer carry. The meat selections are incredible and sliced so thin you can almost see through each piece. Excellent location and they always have a great selection of wines/beers to choose from. Try their homemade mac n cheese which changes weekly or one of their grilled cheese specials. You really cant go wrong with any route you choose in here.
I cant say enough good things about this place.
Check it out on a Friday or Saturday evening when they have live music. Sarah J is a monthly resident there and her shows are great!
This place has quickly become our favorite in Port Jeff. Â The combination of great cheese, craft beer, wine and friendly service can't be beat. Â The place reminds me of the wine and cheese places you used to find all over the Island in the 80s with live acoustic music. Â Must visit if looking for something different in Port Jeff.
Review Source:Amazing!!!!! A perfect place to come for lunch with a huge variety of cheese platters, sandwiches, salads, soups, beer and wine. Â Everything was extremely fresh and extremely delicious. All the locals recommended this place over anything else and it was well worth it. 5 stars without any hesitation
Review Source:We had an AMAZING TIME [my wife and I] and thoroughly enjoyed the live music provided by the establishment friday evenings (and if I recall correctly, also saturdays). Â Personally, I feel the shop is the perfect establishment to serve best as a prelude to a more robust dinner later on (i.e., enjoy one of their cheese and wine pairings, relax and converse with your companion(s), then head on to a different locale). Â This is in no way to suggest that a dinner at this place is disappointing, but I find their menu much more appropriate for a fantastic lunch, or even a brunch, if not a late afternoon meal.
The miss and I had dinner here, and enjoyed their sandwich selection well enough (we found their reuben to be the best we have had in a long while). Â I cannot stress enough, however, how fantastic the mood had been at this place; romantic, elegant, and quite flavorful. Â The wine was class (so far as I'm concern [I confess, I am no connoisseur]). Â I will say that the establishment could use some dark chocolates for desserts, perhaps some truffles.... Â I did not have their cheesecake (I find that after their pairing/meal, cheesecake would be WAY to rich. Â Besides that, it better be some darn good cheesecake after what we just experienced [it will be tough to match])!
C'est Cheese is one of my personal favorites, a great place to grab a sandwich or relax with a group of friends over some wine and a plate of cheeses and meats while taking in the Port setting.
There's not too much to say that has not already been said--delicious sandwiches, extensive cheese and wine selection, helpful staff, pleasant atmosphere--so I will only add that The Clucker (grilled chicken breast, fontina, tomato, basil pesto, red onions, rosemary aioli, and greens, served warm, on your choice of a white, wheat, sourdough, or black blaguette) is one of the best chicken sandwiches I have ever had.
The Soprano (sopressata, provolone, tomatoes, black olive tapenade, extra virgin olive oil, balsamic, and greens) was also quite good, though a bit stingy with the meat. Â Unfortunately, they have since changed this sandwich and replaced the sopressata with salami, which is an unequivocal downgrade.
I have been wanting to try this place since they opened, so glad that I finally went in there today. Lovely place with sort of an undustrial chic vibe. Wonderful assortment and selection of cheeses. Interesting sandwich choices. I tried The Clucker and it was incredibly delcious flavorful chicken with fontina cheese, red onion, ripe tomato, rosemary aoli and pesto. It was the best sandwich I have had in a very long time. The sandwiches are served on a selection of hand crafted baguettes that are hard to find in this area. The grilled cheese options are particularly exciting, served with a lovely green salad with the right vinagrette to help break up the unctiousness of your cheese sandwich. The gourmet mac and cheese was also fantastic. Nice selection of craft beers, and wines. They offer cheese plates and salumi plates. The prices are very fair. The staff was extremely helpful and kind. They have an open mic night on Thursday and are going to be hosting a trivia night on Tuesday soon. They have live music on weekend. I can easily see this becoming one of my favorite places. I can't wait to go back again and again and try everything!
Review Source:This is by far my favorite place in Port Jefferson. The atmosphere is so cozy, quiet, and quaint. The cheese selection can feel overwhelming but the display is beautiful and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable.
The sandwiches are incredible. I'm a big fan of the PMT and the C'est Cheese BLT. Great selection of wine and beer on tap. This is the perfect spot for an intimate lunch.
They have open mics on Thursdays and live music on Fridays/Saturdays.
It's not ideal for large groups. I wouldn't go there with more than a group of 3. I also wish it had comfier chairs. But then again, if I were able to nibble on cheese, sip on a glass of wine, read a good book in a big warm arm chair, I probably wouldn't leave.
And come on, how cute is the name?
I can safely say this review is long overdue after several visits. C'est cheese has slowly snuck into my activities of weekly living here in Long Island. Indolent yet persistent, it grew on me.
You really can't go wrong with something as simple as wine and cheese. And in this wonderful spot, the cheese man Joe creates a perfect marriage of cheese, wine and various accoutrements with glorious harmony... Possibly the only place where marriage can be described with any relation to perfection and harmony.
Admittedly, I didn't love this place the first time I visited. It was initially confusing--I wasn't sure how to interact with it. Is it a cheese shop? Is this a wine bar? Should I stay awhile? There is a cold, sterile feeling when you walk in, mainly since it lacks the softness of couches or fabric that you might expect in a wine bar. After getting over the actual coldness of the aluminum seating with the help of some delicious wine, I began to really enjoy this place, time and time again.
Some advice when visiting:
1. If this is your first time, I think your best bet is the cheese and wine/beer tasting. For $15, you get perfect pairings. There are three options: mild, moderate and intense. I prefer the intense plate which has the stinkiest, sharpest, most flavorful cheese. Make sure to heed their warnings about which cheese to start and end with, especially with the intense plate. The Cabrales (blue cheese) really has some hearty, strong kick behind it.
2. Ask for help. The staff is very knowledgeable and will delightfully assist you in selecting something to please your palate. You can choose your own queso adventure with/without recommendations from Joe or they have various special cheese plates ($20) with sides of olives, fig jams, fruits, etc.
3. The grilled cheese sandwiches are awesome. These are grown-up grilled cheese sandwiches that make your typical homemade American cheese and Wonderbread sandwiches seem immature, if not archaic and simple-minded. Their grilled cheese is refined with complex flavors and combinations with bacon, gouda, veggies, etc. It's like grilled cheese revisited or Grilled cheese 2.0.
4. Panini sandwiches are a yummy option. These aren't your typical toasted, squished flat bread, the bread is still fluffy and thick. My favorite sandwiches with meat are the PMT and Soprano. For a veggie option, go for the Somerset. The Tuscany has roasted veggies, which I normally enjoy except that it includes carrots which seem to overtake the tastier roasted peppers.
5. Don't forget to add charcuterie to your plate. Soppressata makes everything yummier!
My fave fromage so far:
Ewe-phoria-- a wonderful sheep's milk cheese which oddly pairs nicely with fancy corn nuts. I love the name of this cheese and it is truly ewe-phoric in taste!
Taleggio-- A dependable, go-to soft Italian formaggio--stinky yet mild
Ploughgate Willoughby-- Stanky Vermont cheese
Savoureaux de Cremiers-- even stankier, harder, more flavorful cheese
There's open-mic night and live music on various nights but otherwise this place is a nice, quiet spot to catch up over a few drinks. The service is great, very attentive and friendly. They have large tables in the back to accommodate groups as well.
Definitely stop in sometime. Nothing beats the winter doldrums in February like a nice glass of wine (preferably the Bordeaux or Malbec) and plate of cheese.
Now if only they could just put in a couch to make it a bit more cozy....
So happy they are in Port Jeferson.  I can eat there almost everyday.  'Im a cheese lover ad of course it goes great with wine .Variety can be found at C'est Cheese in Port Jeff, where the cheese counter is "filled with at least 50-60 different choices. The nice part about this is you get to choose from an assortment of accompaniments - chutneys, honeys, preserves, and savories  Great job Joe!  As the Chairperson for "A Taste of Port Jefferson", C'est Cheese has been a participant for the past 2 years.
Review Source:Ok, this is a Cafe ala Manhattan. Very delicate servings  in its sandwich selection. I don't eat big meals so the serving is adequate for me. The preparation is as I said delicate and gourmet. Iris a pleasant experience, but the only oh wow is that you have a bit of NYC ambiance in Port Jefferson. I have been there 3 times since they have been open, and ask each time for diet coke or club soda. For 2 years, they are working on getting it. A little peeve of mine, that they don't give customers what they want. But that is the only negative. Oh yes, and a little pricey for a non voluminous serving. So you get that part of manhattan too.
Review Source:Fabulous selection in terms of cheese, wine, beer... well, everything! Their cheese is a bit on the pricey side. You can definitely find cheaper specimens of equal quality at, say, Fairway Market. Their sandwiches and salads, however, are very reasonable, and incredibly tasty. And they will let you try whatever cheese you want while you wait, so there's a bonus. I wanted desperately to stop in for more of a dinner type situation, but, alas! I was only ever granted take out lunch privileges. Ah, well. Next time. (And there WILL be a next time.)
Review Source:Went here on two occasions with my girlfriend for lunch. Â Both times it was good. Â Staff was very nice and friendly. Â The first time we went we went we got a cheese platter but we had to pick random cheeses. Â We recommended that they should make preset cheese platters. Â And when we went back a few
Months later, they did! Â Haha. Â Sandwiches are also good. Â The clucker is delicious.
My wife and I were in Port Jefferson for a wedding and had some time to kill. Â C'est Cheese attracted our attention right away with its quient decor and prime location, so we decided to stop in for lunch.
I had a grilled cheese sandwich and my wife had the chicken. Â Both were excellent. Â I would happily try them again and again if I ever find myself back in Port Jefferson.
When I tell people "Yelp Doesn't Lie" they don't believe me... C'est Cheese is another example of "Yelp Doesn't Lie"
I was in Long Island for a Wedding. We stopped in Port Jefferson to check out my parents old haunts and needed a quick bite to eat lunch.
We stopped in C'est Cheese for a quick bite to eat. The chicken sandwich I ordered was delish. Unfortunately I am allergic to most cheeses and did not get to sample all the cheeses that they have there.
This place is perfect if you are here for a date and don't live in town. You can get some wine, get some cheese, and have a nice little date at one of the cosy tables watching the folk walk by.
Sadly, it will probably be never that I will be back to Port Jeff, but if you are in town this is a MUST TRY!
UPDATE: The bread is now thin-sliced!! Although you need to order another basket of bread for some more dough (sorry for the pun) - it's worth it. Â
(to continue my nit pickery, things I hope to see someday changed: Â the cold sterile feel of the furniture/lighting/etc, and a more diverse or rotating beer selection. Â I say these things with love, the place as it currently exists is just fine with me - the emphasis is as it should be - on the wonderful cheese!)
Joe and everyone at C'est Cheese still continues to get a 5 Yelp rating from me. This place freakin' rocks...I've done everything from their cheese & wine pairing to the manual cheese selection and wines that you pick after. You have to love the manual cheese pairing because that means you get to stand in front of the cheese display and try cheeses for about 15-20 minutes before you decide...how can you not like doing that?!?! The cheese and wine pairing we did, featured:
- Carrichio de cabra paired with Shelter Sauvignon Blanc
- Raclette paired with with Curran Grenache Blanc (my favorite of the bunch)
- Grana Padano paired with Villa Calcunaia Chianti
It was done extremely well, the staff here rocks and Joe himself is absolutely awesome. He also is VERY receptive to feedback and has fixed the 2 things that I had concerns about. Hats off to you Joe and your team...I love your spot!
I've had the opportunity to go a few times over the past few weeks including doing their mild, medium and sharp/bold selections paired with wine and we all loved it. The back room is great because it's semi-private and you can have an amazing time with your large group of friends. You also have to love the bathroom that's lined with lighting on the bottom the floor...reminds me of bathrooms in some clubs in NYC LOL!!! :)
THIS has been a review by Gaurav
How many great things can I say about this place. Â Right when we walked in, we were greeted with the most knowledgeable people I know with cheese. Â They probably had to train for two months to learn all the cheeses on display. Only fault would be to have more of a description of each cheese. Â All it had was where it was made and the name. Â But its all for naught as they let you try any cheese you want. We opted for the caciocavallo (sharpest cheese I have ever had) and romano. Â The presentation was awesome as they give you bread and sides to compliment each cheese like almonds and dried fruit jam. Â Wine is expensive here, but they do help you in deciding which one fits the best with the cheese you got. Â Watch out for weekends as they have live music at night and heard that its gets really loud
Review Source:C'est Cheese is just what a quaint neighborhood like Port Jefferson needs with it's amazing selection of artisanal cheese, craft beers, and boutique wines.
Everyone can find something they enjoy, and if you feel overwhelmed by the selection or need some advice or help choosing, Cheesemonger Dave's knowledge of all them is really quite impressive.
Have your pick in a rustic sandwich, fresh salad, take them home, or do as I did and build-your-own cheese plate complete with cured meats, accompaniments, and your choice of baguette.
Take a seat by the window, and watch the town stroll by!
I've been to C'est Cheese twice and am impressed each time. Â It is a Gourmet Salad/sandwich shop with a fabulous cheese bar! Â The staff is indulgent, courteous and always ready to expound on the ingredients and discuss food! Â Their cheeses are clearly labeled with not only the name, country of origin, animal that produced it, but also weather or not it has Rennet and what form of Rennet it has! Â Definitely go for the three cheese plate with associated amuse Bouche. Â Don't be shy about asking for a taste. Â DEFINITELY don't miss the Truffle cheeses, they are divine!
Review Source:This place to me gets better and better with every visit. I stop in every weekend to bring home a different cheese to sample. Of course while I'm here I want to drink a Chimay and have a small cheese sampler. Last weekend I tried a rosemary infused hannahbelle cheese. Soo good!
The folks here are friendly and informative.
Love Port Jeff!
I took my brother and his kids here for a quick lunch before I caught the ferry to CT. Â Their menu was impressive. Â Their selection of cheeses was amazing. Â
The staff was very friendly and very accommodating because they had to move tables around for our group of six. Â
The prices were not out of line and was about what I would have expected. Â The food was very good. Â I had the classic Mac & cheese and it was very good. Â
This is a fun, sophisticated eatery and I am so glad we stopped here. Â Definitely give this a try if you like cheese.
Welcome to Port Jeff's own fromagerie. Â Stopped in to get a sandwich, nice selection of artisan sandwiches for $8.95 and come with choice of baguettes. Â Got the PMT, with fresh prosciutto di parma, mozzarella, tomato, and basil. Â Absolutely delicious! Â Huge cheese list offerings depicted by the flag of the country of origin. Â Staff is highly knowledgeable and will help you for appropriate pairings. Â So for either getting cheese for home, stopping in for lunch, late night wine and cheese, or platters for events remember to C'est Cheese!
Review Source:C'est Cheese, you had me at hello. Â
This adorable little café is quickly becoming a fan favorite in Port Jeff.  The décor is clean and modern, the staff is friendly and knowledgable and the menu is fun, delicious and most importantly revolves around my favorite thing in the world - cheese.
If you're looking for something different and delicious, do yourself a favor and check this place out. Â The menu has a nice assortment of gourmet sandwiches, fresh salads and various cheese tasting options. Â If you decide to do a cheese plate, you will not be disappointed. Â The impressive selection consists of over 100 different varieties from all over the world. Â Even if you are not a cheese connoisseur, the savvy staff will help you narrow down your selections by offering cheese samples to ensure you'll order something you love! Â
It's the perfect place to come for a casual date night or to enjoy a light bite and a drink with a few friends. Â They often have live music on weekends and the ambiance is a nice change from the bar scene in Port Jefferson Village. Â
Welcome to town C'est Cheese!
This was the worst dining experience ever. The food was overpriced...light weight sandwich w 2 grapes as a side? The employees had no idea how to use the beer taps and couldn't change the keg so my husband and I had to have beer we didn't like. We ordered one sandwich w no onions. It came w onions. When we sent it back, all they did was pick off the onions-you could smell them on the sandwich. No offer for a free drink or a cheese taste or anything. Terrible customer service. Will never go back.
Review Source:I had a little trouble here - trying to decide between 4 and 5 stars, but then I thought about the experience as a whole, and because I can't wait for another opportunity to enjoy it again, I think they deserve the full five :)
This place is a lot more than it looks like. Â The setting, tables etc. are very simple, but what they deliver is far from that.
Your experience starts with a walk to the counter, where you decide what you're going to indulge in. Â We didn't try any of the salads, quiches or sandwiches (though, based on their delivery of everything else, I would imagine them to be quite good). Â We selected an "assorted dried meat" plate, and a three cheese plate.
Drinks were also special - there are plenty of wines to choose from (and the staff will help you pick one depending on your tastes and what you're ordering to eat), as well as other specialties, and beer on tap... well not just beer... but CHIMAY as well, and on tap - and that (of course) is where I went... well worth $10 a glass (which was generously poured, by the way, into the correct kind of glass). Â If you've never had Chimay, or had it on tap, it's a must-have.
You then move to the cheese counter, which is filled with at least 50-60 different choices. Â The nice part about this, is you get to choose the cheese you want, and the accompaniments (a nice assortment of choices - chutneys, honeys, preserves, and savories). Â The best part, is that they will happily let you sample before you choose, and they help you make selections based on your particular tastes. Â They know their cheese too.
Then you sit, and everything is delivered to you on beautifully plated boards. Â Dried meat was thinly sliced (prosciutto, ham, salami - with mustard, pickled onions and cornichions) and arranged to look like flowers. Â Cheese was presented beautifully too, with little flags to tell you which ones were which. Â Spend the extra $2 for an additional bread basket.
They continued to return and ask if we needed anything. Â There was live music, and smiles all around. Â The food and cheese were delicious, and the accompaniments were perfectly paired. Â These people know their cheese!
All in all, it's not a cheap outing, but money well spent. Â A great evening out that's a step above.
