This is the essence of a true "Hole in the wall". Â I drove past Characters on a weekend adventure. Â I looked up the reviews online and made it a future destination.
The time came when I had a day off. Â I drove 30 miles to try Characters out. Â I wasn't disappointed. Â It definitely is a small place. Â What it lacks in size, it certainly makes up for in quality. Â This is definitely some of the best BBQ pork and beans that I have ever had! Â That is no easy feat for me to say that. Â Well done!
Delicious! This is the best BBQ you'll ever eat. Â Mr. Character is also a very nice person and makes sure you are completely happy with your order. Â
Be sure to stop by if you are coming from Barnsley Gardens or just traveling through Adairsville. Only a few miles from I 75 near Food Lion.
Excellent. Clean. Delicious!
This is the best BBQ I have had in several years. Â We were just wandering around the area looking for a different place to eat, and the other place we intended to go to was out of business, so we stopped in at Character's since there were about four trucks parked out front. Â Wow, I am glad we did! Â This place is about a 45 minute drive from Canton, but well worth the trip (just about a mile from the I-75 exit at Adiarsville). Â The meat is so tender, moist, and full of flavor you would not believe it. Â Smokey without overpowering the pork, a good char, and no blobs of fat. Â Michael chops or pulls the pork as it is ordered, throws out the fat, and piles it high, so it is always fresh and perfect.
I am really a brisket fan, but decided on the pork after I saw a customer order it. Â FANTASTIC! Â AFterward Michael said I should have ordered the brisket, and I noticed several BBQ trophies for the brisket. Â NEXT TIME for sure! Â
It is a small place, but the portions are fantastic, and everything is fresh and house made. Â Don't expect to come in and run out with a sandwich in 5 minutes, but I guarantee you will be happy you went here if you like great BBQ. Â An added bonus is a great playlist of fantastic blues music to enjoy while you eat there.
Terrific! Â Thanks to whoever posted this restaurant on yelp. It earns the 5 stars.
A BBQ place with everything.  Great meats and the GA mop sauce is fabulous.  A plate comes with meat, 2 sides, a drink, and a  dessert.  Everyone goes away full.  The owner is the only employee and he loves what he is doing.  Limited hours around lunch (12-2) and dinner (4-6).  Closed sunday/monday.  Go is you have the chance.
MAP ISSUE: Â Yelp shows the address east of the big intersect, but Character's is west of it.
Agree with the other reviews- Michael Character's handiwork is worth the detour. My coworkers were still talking about it after several more meals. Â My preference is less sauce, but most people will just love this 100%. Tasty sides and friendly conversation (when engaged) as well and a drink is included. Â Stop by!
Review Source:This was my first visit to Character's Famous and I will be back. This is not Georgia BBQ or Carolina sweet, nor is it Kentucky, Kansas City or Texas BBQ. What it is, is Well smoked and seasoned by someone who has a gift. You can tast the care and energy that goes into the preperation of food.
I could go on and on but you don't want to hear me gush. This is a small one man opperation that servs up excelent food in an out of the way location. There's not a lot of seating so come early or be prepaired to take it with you.
My Tip: Ask a lot of question and have fun.
WONDERFUL! Absolutely amazing that this guy does all of it by himself. And he is so hygienic-wearing gloves when handling food. The food was amazing! All the meats are full of flavor, juicy and tender. The sauce he puts on the meat is so good. The beans and potato salad were great! And the amount of food you get for the price is astounding! Get your tails over there ASAP! Wish we had good bbq like this in NY!
Review Source:I'm a NC girl. My boyfriend is an AL boy. We grew up with completely different types of bbq, and we both think this place is awesome.
Likes: High quality meat, good sauce, huge portions, not too far off I-75.
Dislikes: No small sizes of sandwiches. I'm pretty sure they're closed on Sunday. Just a casual to-go type place.
Take it or leave it: Take it. Awesome. Best GA bbq ever.
This is the ONLY place for BBQ. Â We live in ACWORTH so we are close but we would travel 100 miles to have fork tender brisket, ribs and pulled pork. The sides are fantastic along with Mom's homemade light as a feather pound cake! Â Do yourselves a treat and tell all your friends and neighbors this is fantastic BBQ. The only days he is closed is Sunday and Monday. We can hardly wait for our next visit!!!
Review Source:We drive from Alabama to Georgia every weekend and we have passed this place every time but it's been late and the restaurant has been closed. Â Over the 4th of July we passed it on a Saturday during the day and it was open so we stopped by. Â Holy MOLEY! Â Talk about some killer bbq! Â WOW! Â We managed to leave Alabama early today and got there just in time for dinner (they close at 7pm on Fridays). Â Not only is the bbq just killer but the gentleman who makes the bbq (Michael) Â is a total sweetheart! Â We tried all of the meats and they were ALL amazing. Â I loved all of them but was completely blown away by his tender, juicy brisket and tender and juicy white meat chicken! Â Now my only problem is that I won't know what to choose next time. Â
Seriously folks, even if you're in Atlanta it is completely worth the drive to Adairsville for this fantastic bbq and it is easy to find too! Â He's closed Sunday and Monday. Â Make sure you try this BBQ, you will be amazed!
