My Dad and I were passing through Almira on the way to Grand Coulee Dam. Trying to re-live the old memories of the past as it were. My Old Man remembered when this place was called the"Almira Cafe" and he and his buddies would tarry on own to the ol watering hole after evading the town cop.
Times change, it seems. The ol Almira Cafe has been re purposed as Charlies Restaurant and Lounge an I have to say it was a real pleasure coming in. The proprietor was very friendly, very warm an told us about how her family trekked own from the north to set up shop in a small town. They had a great beer selection, so Dad an I ordered a Irish Death Ale and listened to the story of this haunted old hotel. Apparently, some of the beer delivery guys wont even go into the basement.
I really enjoyed my time here. Restaurants and bars are a dime a dozen, and being from DC I see it all the time. When I went back home to see Dad, Grandpa and all of Eastern Washington, it seems - I got more than I bargained for. This place has a story, and that story should be shared. If your ever in Almira, stop off at Charlies and have a beer or two.
