We love Cheddar's however this visit was not a great one. The food we ordered was not up to our expectations of Cheddar's. The Triple Treat Sampler appetizer was not as good as other Cheddar locations and The Sheppard's Pie was basically the ground meet mixture with a small scoop of mashed potatoes on top. This too was different than what we have had at other locations.
The service was just OK... Not friendly, not nasty just robotic... Maybe an off day... :-(
Never heard of this chain. Â We don't have any down in my area. Â We were on a road trip and wanted to have nice hour or so out of the car. Â We saw a sign on the highway and thought why not. Â
It was Easter so there was not to many people eating out that night. Â We got a table right away. Â Our watercress was awesome. Â She was busy because of the holiday they were running on a short staff but that didn't cause her a bit of a problem. Â She made sure the drinks were out and full and that our food order was right. Â The food was way better than what I though it would be. Â Most of the time with a chain the food is just the same across the board. Â I would stop her again if I was passing through.
I lived in Wheeling for about 2 years and can honestly say this was one of the few places that was consistently good. It was not spectacular, but it was certainly above most of the surrounding restaurants. Ask for the honey butter glazed croissants and that alone would be 5 stars. If you take into account the really really long wait times on some nights, it knocks it down a bit. The decor is really nice, the place is clean, and they're good for a drink, if you can find a spot at the bar. I always liked their salmon and the hawaiian chicken wrap or salad. I know a lot of my local friends generally loved the buffalo chicken wrap. If you have some super refined palate, go to Oglebay and get ready to spend money. If you want a good lunch or dinner that is well made and will almost definitely leave you with an entire box to have for lunch the next day at a good price, go here.
Review Source:I really feel like they're putting out a decent product here, and doing it well.
Its a sit-down spot, very similar to an Applebees, but I feel like the atmosphere was nicer. Â It didn't have all of that kitschy nick-knack dust-collecting crap all over the place--I really hate that look!
We've eaten here twice and both times were equally good!
The service was good and the food was good!
I ordered the ribs the first time, pretty safe choice, but it was delicious!
Second time around, I got (I know... aim high) Chicken fingers, but seriously.... there were not typical at all! Â The guy next to us ordered them and they looked sooo good and I wasn't very hungry, so I gave it a shot and was not disappointed at all!
Also, the Baked Potato Soup was AMAZING!
If you like that soup, I'd tell you a thousand times to give it a shot here!
PROS:
Food has been consistently good;
Menu consists of some pretty traditional comfort-food types;
Pricing is perfect for a sit down of this type;
Service has been good;
Restrooms are CLEAN! Â :)
CONS:
On the weekend, expect upwards of a 45 minute wait (but it goes quickly);
We wished the bar was bigger;
My wife and I debated over whether this was 3 stars or 4. Â But based on service, plating, and the food I can barely give it 3. Â
I ordered onion rings ($4) which was a huge plate of breaded rings. Â I like my rings thicker than their version plus they gave us very little sauce to go with it. Â And when the waitress doesn't check in until they bring out your meal, you forget about asking for it. Â I ordered the pick 2 ($6) of tortilla soup and half a club. Â This was cheaper than Panera but the Club was pathetic. Â I had looked at the burgers and sandwiches being laid out close to us and though half a club would be enough. Â It could have been enough if they placed meat, cheese, and bacon throughout the whole bread instead of piling on in the middle and forgetting about the edge. Â The soup must have spilled a little or been quickly dipped in because it was all over the sides of the bowl when it came to me. Â Â My wife ordered the chicken avocado sandwich ($6-8) which looked good with a huge piece of chicken on it. Â The chicken was sticking out on both ends but then it was more narrow than wide. Â She loved it while I wasn't into the honey flavored chicken. Â She loved it and compared to Applebees and Fridays, this place has some good price options for burgers and appetizers. Â The Burger are $4-$6 depending on what type but then fries are extra. Â I love this option since I prefer to order burgers without fries. Â
I am not going out of my way to stop in here again but it is  nice option compared to fast food with close to fast food prices.  The Monte Cristo looked good albeit a little heavy and fried for my taste buds.  The place is also huge and great for groups.
You can just picture all the wide-eyed, pot-bellied locals salivating as they wait for 45 minutes to have slash-priced onion rings and greaseburgers.
It's not hard to see the appeal here. Â In an era where Applebee's is charging ten dollars for a burger and fries, Cheddars offers the same burger at half the price hoping that you, elated at the savings, will buy a couple of their mixed drinks that will ultimately recoup the loss of food.
The food? Â Nothing new. Â People eat here because it is "sit down" and "cheap". Â I get it. Â That's why I ate there.
I've been to this particular Cheddar's location 3 times. Â Each time I've received good service. Â The food is on par with something like Applebee's, but I think that Cheddar's is more reasonably priced. Â I've seen a lot of people waiting to be seated while I was leaving, so it seems like the wait would be shorter if you went at a non-regular meal time. Â Bottom line, the food and service are good and the prices are reasonable.
Review Source:The food is great! Excellent variety, though somewhat limited for vegetarians. (A few of the vegetables have meat in them and cannot be special ordered.) The mashed potatoes are meat free and phenomenal.
The onion rings appetizer is well-worth the wait. Order them first then let the wait staff come back to take your entree order.
I want to address the negative reviews about the service. Initially, Cheddar's was understaffed and overpopular. They have have long since resolved the problem. We regularly get friendly and efficient service. Keep in mind this is not fast food, however. This is a sit-down restaurant to enjoy a meal with family or friends.
I normally love Cheddars. I go with one of my friends to the one in Morgantown all the time. This one, however, well, at least the waitress we had was horrible. She acted like we were an inconvenience, on multiple occasions slammed glasses down on the table, never smiled and wouldn't respond when we even tried to be courteous and say thank you. Oh, and as a heads up if you ever go there, the girl looks nearly exactly like Celia from America's Next Top Model, so if you get her, ask for someone else.
Review Source:Wow I really wish we had one of these in Columbus! Aside from the long wait to get seated (I figured this meant it was good) I really liked this place.
I ordered a Monte Cristo sandwich, one of my favorite dishes and so hard to find! It was massive, indulgent, and delicious! Came with some pretty good cole slaw although not the best ever. My friend got a huge hunk of baked pasta that had a funky name. He polished it off in no time flat and attested to its good flavor.
Service was good, and the food was out in what felt like an instant. Even better, the prices were very reasonable. If I ever stumble upon a Cheddar's in my travels again, I will be sure to visit.
