A testament to the less-than-tech-savvy Ohio Valley - I cannot find an address for this place online - I can't actually find evidence that it EXISTS. Aside from a few Tweets from people in Wheeling saying they are going here, it's like I just imagined it... I wish.
I came here 3 months ago to meet up with some old friends from high school - venue was their suggestion, not mine, and what the hell, I'm always up for trying a new venue. No one could provide an address, or even a street name, for the Owl's Nest, so I was given a Google Maps link to the Rose Bowl Lanes nearby, ha. I actually don't know if the Owl's Nest place is ON Edgington Lane, but... it's nearby. Around the corner from the Alpha.
A nondescript door on the street, opening to steep staircase, opening to a Shining-like long creepy hallway (where the hell am I?!) opening to a small bar with a few very old customers half-asleep on the bar, two pool tables, and a wall of mirrors. Errr. Ok. The tiny, tiny smoking room here (oh, I mean, the "gambling room." Silly WV legislation loopholes) is NOT well ventilated, FYI.
A handful of standard bottled beers. No drafts. A less-than-friendly bartender. Surprisingly NOT cheap - not pricey, but this place just SCREAMS $1 PBR or something. It was a completely dead bar until after 11, when it apparently became THE dance club to be at in Wheeling?!?! Well, by "THE dance club," I mean trashy, crowded and morbidly enjoyable of fun to watch.
I'll pass.
