I went for a birthday party a year or so ago. While the people I was with were awesome, this place not so much. I'll boil it down to this: I am not a fan of places with cover charges. There are tons of bars in the city I go to where cover charges don't exist. The drinks were good, the music was loud, so there is nothing really special about this place.
Review Source:**NOTE: This review is strictly for Saturday Night experiences I have had at Cheers**
Cheer's Bar & Grill has been open for a couple of years, and I never knew it. This place hides right on the side of Home Depot in the Perring Plaza shopping center. Â After being persuaded by a couple of friends to go come to this place, I decided oh what the heck. Â A couple of things to take note:
-Admission is $20 usually up until midnight. Â After midnight, it's $30.
-On Saturday's (and Friday's I believe), it's open bar. Â So, if you're a weekend alcoholic, you'll fit fine here.
-Since it is open bar, the bar is PACKED!!!! I repeat: the bar is PACKED!!!! Now that I got that out of the way, the bartenders do a good job of moving the line and serving drinks. Â Best drinks I've had here: Gremlin and Death by Sex.
-There is no particular dress code. Â This could be good or bad depending on the type of clothing you usually wear in a club/lounge. Â I've seen men come in with baggy jeans and shirts (not my style at all), and was able to get in. Â As the place grows, this might change in order to promote a better image. We'll see.
-The crowd is mixed, but dominantly African-American. Â I like to be a part of a mixed crowd, so it's good to see a mix of different races.
-The three times that I have been to this place, I have seen police patrol cars out before/during/after the event. Â IMO, this is a good thing in order to make sure nothing happens. Â There have been no altercations inside or outside of Cheers the times I have been there.
-Cheers recently opened up their second floor for a more expanded experience. Â When you go to the second floor, it looks dead, even with people migrating to this floor. Â Better to stay on the first.
Overall, I would say my experience here was OK. Â It does not compare to an upscale lounge experience in Baltimore or D.C., but this is a local spot to go to if you don't feel like being bothered with dressing like a superstar.
