They get 5 stars for their burgers and price of drinks (not atmosphere or service.) Â If you know what you are walking into, you wont be disappointed. Â This is a DIVE bar - so yes its crappy furnishings. Â They aren't usually the fastest on service and once in a while I have to get up and ask for a drink at the bar. Â But drinks are a fair price and they have the best burgers in San Diego!
To the person that complained they dont talk to you on the phone about games on TV, really have you never waited on people?? Â I am sure the bartender was running to get drinks and food - get over it. Â This isn't a sports bar that yuppy's like. Â If that's what you want go somewhere else - down the hill because it doesn't exist in Ramona. Â
To the person that complained about the tattoo'd cook - ok he doesn't look like you and me, but hes nice and makes a great burger! Â Go somewhere else if you want to complain.
This is a DIVE bar, and my favorite in Ramona. Â Oh and I am kind of a yuppy (professional, two kids, two dogs, two horses), however I have lived in Ramona 10+ years. Â I have never felt unwelcome or out of place. Â Yes, everyone stops to look at you when you walk inside. Â Lets see its dark in there and when you open the door you flood the place with light. Â Everyone just wants to know who is coming in. Â If you relax and just hang out, its a great place. Â I have even met my hubby there after work in my suit. Â Its just a great DIVE bar.
As for the music, I have been there on good and bad days. Â Mostly I avoid the music because they seem to think its only good if its so loud you can't think. Â I like music, but I want to hear afterwards so I can't really comment much on the bands they get.
The lady that was working in the afternoon of april 9th, was extremely RUDE! Â Talk about a person who has NO customer service skills! Â I called to see if the Padres game opener was going to be on. Â She rudely and impatiently said "well, I think so". Â When I asked her to please find out, she said "uhh, yup" and hung up on me. Â I called back and she was impatient and acted as if It was a HUGE bother to her to find out the answer to my question. Â She was so impatient she began to ramble and made NO sense. Â She sounded as if she was running because she sounded short of breath. She never confirmed an answer to my question. Â I have never been to Cheers before but a big group, and I, wanted to go there to enjoy food, have some drinks, and watch the game... Due to her rude, impatient, and at times argumentive attitude... We decided not to bring our business to them. Â In fact, due to this one rude lady, I will never go there, and a few other people I spoke to about this, advised they will never go back there! I don't tolerate rude and "put out" attitudes by staff of anywhere I want to bring my business too. Â Tip to Cheers staff.. Be pleasant, respectful, and sound cheerful when you speak to your customers and/or potential customers... You never know who you are speaking to. And, if you are unhappy with your dead end job, then please look else where and don't take it out on people who are wanting to enjoy their day.
Review Source:If you prefer an establisment with great (award winning) burgers and humble furnishings to an well furnished establishment with breathtaking views and crappy food, this is the place for you. Â
Don't set your expectations too high, mine your manners and you'll have a great time. Â HIghly recommend the BR Burger.
This place rocks.
Looks a little intimidating from the outside. But inside you will find nice people, tasty food and great ambiance.
A word of warning, don't order from the menu unless you are hungry! The portions are huge and the food is really tasty! If you are looking for lo-cal then stick to the salads cause the burgers are made the American way.
If you are in Ramona, make sure you stop in. Don't be a stranger!
Very disappointed. Bragged about the great food and live musician to our friends and invited up for dinner. Was supposed to be live music but nobody was playing. Ordered the sampler basket and some drinks. All was good so far. Ordered dinner and was told they were out of fish. Ok no big deal ordered fried chicken sandwich instead. After about 10 minutes we were told they were out of fried chicken top. So no music, no fish and no chicken. The waitresses were very embarassed and apologized but it wasn't their fault. Guess we will know better than to in on a Sunday evening again. Off to boll weevil we went.
Review Source:What do you call fake chicken?  Ficken  OK, you can laugh NOW!  Well, ya won't find any frikin' ficken at Cheers of Ramona.  The perfect divey atmosphere where one feels right at home on a crusty old bar seat.  Hefeweizen on tap with a slice of orange, sweet, cute bartenders with ALL their teeth, the twangin' country music and Irish themed decor makes me hungry for the BEST grilled chicken samich with avo that I ever put to my lips.  Cheers chicken samich is always cooked to perfection, so delicious, marinatedly juicy and the onion rings ROCK too!  mmm did I say "Cold beer"?  The photo doesn't do the BEST chichen samich justice.
Review Source:After 100+ miles on the Harley in mid day sun, it was nice to walk into some air conditioning.
Eight of us sat at two tables. Some got cocktails, some daddy road sodas and they said beer & liquor  pricing was ok. The waitress came and took our food order. We played pool and listed to live music and cooled off.
We got our food in about 30 minutes. Most biker friendly bars we go to will take 30-60 minutes to bring out the food.
I tried the cheeseburger and we all agreed it was quite good. I also tasted the chili burger. It was a plate full and pretty good. I didn't order fries, don't usually like them but ended up eating most of my friends fries. Great fries. I also tried the chicken tenders and they were as good as chicken can be I guess.
Our group is riding out that way in a few days and we plan on stopping there again.
Cheers my ass. Â What we got here was shit service, half the draft beers out of stock, and flat beer of what there was. Â Add a dark, depressing room with some amateur playing bad covers, and you've got yourself a shit overall experience in what has become one of the most depressing towns in San Diego County.
What about the food? Â Well sir, I wish I could tell you. Â We'd actually come in for the food after a long day in the backcountry. Â We'd been looking forward to Cheers based on all the great Yelp reviews, and because of the recommendation of a local Ramonerian we know. Â
But after sitting there for the better part of an hour having our eardrums assaulted, and after seeing some people get their food who had come in a good 20 minutes after us, we paid for the flat beers we'd drank and hit the road. Â Apparently the cook had taken a disliking to us. Â I guess we didn't look biker or hillbillly enough for his badly-tattooed ass?
The waitress did try to offer half off our food if we stayed. Â But I've worked in restaurants. Â I know what to expect from grungy asshole cooks who've decided they don't like you. Â And we had no desire to add a side of spit to our late food. Â
Either way, the class act would have been to comp our beers too. Â At least I wouldn't have been inspired to write this 1-star review.
I would say that if this is the experience you're after, check out my review on a certain biker-burger bar in Lakeside, CA. Â They actually do this right. Â And their food and beer is some of the best we've had anywhere.
this is one of those places as a kid you drive by while going into town where you know the bikers go to fight and your mom starts singing the Cheer's theme song......anyway flash forward 15 years later, I finally go here to eat. The places is actually pretty nice inside (for Ramona). I had the burger and fries , pretty good actually. The service was nice for a bar and l I wasn't too scared to go inside after all!
Would I go back? Yes, in the light of day. totally.
Honey and I are driving home from Ramona he asks what I want to eat.... I smile and say umm this is your Hood. I'm clueless what's around here. He mentions a few places and maybe noticed the look of confusion on my face as he named off restaurants.... He made an executive decision and pulled into cheers. I was glad he did.
It was very much a dive bar and pretty loud. It was a Sunday night pretty slow so service was pretty good :) Â They had tons of TVs playing the Oscars. Honey grew up in Ramona so he proceeded to tell me the history of cheers as we ordered our dinner. He got the cowboy Burger and a beer. I got a shroom Burger with avocado and a hef. We split an order of firings too. I loved it!
The meat was not overcooked and the flavor was great. Spiced to perfection. Oh how I love me some warm buns....on my Burger of course....cochinos ; ) the bun was toasted and crispily delicious in some parts. The Burger and beer combo was amazing. I will definitely make another trip with honey to Ramona to get my Burger and beer fix.
Ok im letting them have 3 stars any place u can drink and smoke is good with me...well they had a new bartender so its ok if she didn't know how to make all the drinks..she did her best and they were fine.....or so my sister and friend said........I was the DD so I realy can't say for sure. She was friendly and fun we would have stayed longer but the smell of throw up kept lingering...so we had ta go!!! I do the to give the. New girl props as she wouldn't serve me when I was offered a drink being she knew I was the DD. Most places don't care. So thumbs up for her!! I will give it a try again jus hope that smell is gone!!!!
Review Source:Definitely the friendliest bar in Ramona
(read: the locals are least likely to treat you like a space alien).
Excellent, huge burgers,(1/2 lb) as well as the mini-me version, known as the "girly burger," which is a mere 1/4 lb. Â Inconsistent onion rings. Awesome french fries (Think McDonalds except they're hot and fresh, and come in a basket!) Â
Warning, the food ain't cheap, but it IS good.
Prices on drinks are ok. Â Cheers bartenders can be a bit inconsistent on their pours.
Attention veteran Padre fans: Tim Flannery and his band have been spotted playing here on occasion. Â There's a sign by the door telling you about the upcoming live music.
Local secret: Â Monday nite is steak nite! Â $10 gets you a nice, tender steak, made to order, with baked potato and salad. Â The best deal in town--but get there early, the special starts at 5pm and they always run out.
Why three stars? Â Well, the place could use a few coats of paint and a good scrubbing. Â The staff is nice but has its PMS moments. Â And finally, even though it's not Cheers' fault, Ramona residents aren't always super-welcoming to strangers--just don't be scared when they all turn to look at you as you walk in the door. Â They do that to everybody.
Great burgers, great atmosphere and a full bar. Only thing that'd make it better is live music. Oh they have that too. It really is a hole in the wall that does everything right. I didn't give it five stars because it really isn't a five star place. It is a bit of a dirty place but that adds to the character I guess.
Highly recommend it.
I ventured out to Cheers of Ramona to see Cash'd Out and I was happy I did. The small but intimate stage was the perfect set for the Johnny Cash cover band. Service was pretty good, the beer was frequently being refilled and the patrons were a mixed bag of hicks, jarheads, and randoms.
I would definitely go back to Cheers to try their food and maybe see another show. Just don't let the isolated somewhat "hills have eyes" location fool you. Everyone was warm, friendly, and the beer was cold.
Will I be back to Cheers? Yeah, sure...Would I go out of my way for it? Eh.
I've been here a few times for lunch and I always get a burger. They really are worth trying! Wait staff are friendly, food selection is reasonable and they also have a small, enclosed patio if you have your dog with you.
A real hole-in-the-wall place - you could drive past it if you're not careful so keep an eye out for the flagpole as you head south out of town!
First impression...dive bar. Â However, behind the grungy exterior lies a very satisfying dining experience. Â
Service: Â on the ball, very friendly, fast, and informative staff. Â The regulars are also quite friendly and open to conversation.
Drinks: Â full bar. Â I believe we paid $4.50 for a pint of Stone IPA. Â They also have specials depending on the night. Â Just ask the server.
Food: Â I ordered the special for the night- a Pastrami sandwich. Â Gigantic! Â Honestly, other customers commented on the size of this thing. Â $5 for the sandwich piled high with at least 1/2 lb of pastrami, all the fixings, and french fries (inside the sandwich and on the side). Â Good quality pastrami: Â not too fatty/greasy. Â Plenty of melted cheese too. Â This sandwich is very big, you'll probably need a box for leftovers. Â My friend ordered the southwestern burger (chili peppers, jalepenos, grilled onions). Â Good quality meat, however it didn't leave the "wow" impression I was expecting. Â Next time I'll listen to the local and go for the plain 'ol cheeseburger, add bacon. Â I definately see promise in that. Â Also ordered the "frings" (onion rings and fries). Â Not impressed. Â ~6 onions rings with 3/4 basket of fries. Â The rings were a bit too greasy for me and the fries are pretty plain. Â
Overall, stick with the burgers, pass on the fries, and try the special for the eve.
Wow! Holy f8cking wow! Â I finally get it!! Now I know why everyone was saying Cheers has the best God damned burgers in Ramona. Its because they have the best God damned burgers in Ramona.
Ok, reality chek here, the service might have its mood swings, the tables are wobbly, and regulars might give you the "you're not from here boy" look. But WHO f8cking cares!! Â
These burgers are delicious, messy, big, juicy, tasty, and f8ckuing fantastic.
Total dive bar, except it also has awesome food. Outstanding burgers, only downside is you have to order fries separately. There was a singer who started playing on the Sunday afternoon we went and he totally completed the vibe. Don't bring your kids, but do bring your Harley and appetite for some way above average bar food.
Review Source:We took the Spyder up to Julian on Sunday...... Crazy long lines of people waiting to eat at the restaurants. Not for us!
So we hit up Cheers.
Just the place to go for a great burger after the overcrowded streets of Julian. Dark, like a bar should be on a Sunday afternoon. Football on multiple t.v.s. Friendly service in a local atmosphere and everyone is welcome with the exception of the under 21 crowd. Fine by us!
Great, juicy burgers with lots of toppings to choose from. You will need tons of napkins to get through your meal.
Now we have an "excuse" to ride up to Ramona on a Sunday afternoon.
worse service ever. Â i went to this bar hoping to have a couple of tasty beers but instead got absolutely no service. The bar was empty except for a couple of people who seemed to be regulars. I walked to the bar and waited my turn to be served. After 3-4 minutes of standing there, watching the bartenders talk to the regulars I asked if I could have a beer. The bartender looks at me and then turns away without a word.
I walked out and straight into another bar. Glad I didn't waste my hard earned beer drinking dollars there!
I got to go to cheers to see one of my favorite local musicians play...Steve Poltz. It was a great venue to see him...really its just a little hole in the wall bar but I imagine its quite a hangout in Ramona. Their burgers were good but in my opinion, too big. The waitress did not make us aware of that and we order salads and appetizers too...WAY too much food for two people. By BF and I couldn't even eat half of our burgers. They were really tasty, but just huge. Beers were really cheap as was soda...in fact I think she gave me the sodas for free since I was driving. The whole bill for concert tickets, food and drinks was right around $50 for two people if I recall...not too shabby.
Review Source:With Ramona being the Cultural vacuum that it is, Cheers is a nice contrast, not by much but a good change none the less. This townie watering hole has a down home chillaxed air without the "ya ain't from around here boy" stares one might get at Ramona's infamous Turkey Inn. Pretty good Brew and Cocktail selection and AWESOME BURGERS. Extremely Casual with 2 pool tables and Karaoke some nights. The Staff is nice and friendly. The only real drag is the long line to play the 'Big Buck Shoot'n Game'. My friends and I have all made a pilgrimage there on our 21st birthdays making the place a must see Ramona attraction. If you find yourself in Ramona one evening, be sure to check the place out, it's the best we have to offer here.
Review Source:Gotta love Cheers. It's way out of the way for most people, and I think that's a good thing. If this place were nearer downtown it would be overrun the way Hamilton's is. I almost didn't write this review because I kind of don't want to share this place with just anyone. But  Cheers is a place that deserves to be shared.
This is a no-frills, townie kind of place, but they welcome everyone; no stares and glares like you might expect. It's the kind of bar that's as comfortable as your favorite pair of shoes. It's a place where you can get your Miller High Life or a killer martini if you want, and nobody bats an eye at either.
They've got great burgers to be sure, but their other offerings - like their spicy chicken sandwich, topped with onion rings, BBQ sauce and jalapenos - are just as good. They serve up a different cut of steak every Monday for a good price, and have tons of other rib-stickin' specials throughout the week.
This is also a favorite musician's haunt and if you're lucky, you'll find some of San Diego's most well-known musicians playing here on occasion.
Great hamburger. Â I own a horse that I board in Ramona so I am up there all the time and looking for places to eat. Â Good food is hard to come by in this neck of the woods; however, Cheers is right on target. Â You can not get much more casual then this place. Â I walked in with dirt all over my shirt and jeans and my boots were covered in horse crap from training my horse and I fit right in. Â The beer is cold and the food is good. Â They have daily specials that are good and reasonable. Â On Monday they have a $10.00 steak, potato and salad that you can not beat. Â Cheers has a couple of pool tables and sports is always on. Â Try the Cowboy burger...it rocks.
Review Source:The wife and I stopped by here this past Saturday while riding the bike through Ramona. We pasted it the last time we rode by, so this time we decided to stop by and grab a drink and a burger.
The burgers were outstanding. I can't remember the name of mine since they have their own unique names. But mine was a cheeseburger with barbecue sauce and jalapenos. Â My wife had one with onion rings and barbecue sauce.
We also had some chili cheese fries. Â These were delivered before our burgers and we got so full that we almost didn't finish our burgers.
If you are making your way through Ramona, then you need stop by this place. Â The staff is outstanding. Â We had never been there and we were welcomed with open arms.
I cannot believe nobody has written a review for Cheers, yet. This place is awesome. It's a little more than what you would expect in a small, country town. The food here is excellent. The bar is full and well tended. The atmosphere is fun and often loud after 9 PM.
Cheers is famous for its burgers. They are truly delicious and there is a wide variety of styles to choose from. The toppings and ingredients are fresh and crisp and the burger itself has great flavor and is big enough to not get lost in the bun. My husband and I often split an order of 'frings,' which is half onion rings and half fries.
They have about five beers on tap and they sell local (Ramona) wines, which is a nice treat, and what I usually get. The harder stuff is pretty good on the top shelf and decent in the well.
Service here is always very good. The staff are funny and friendly and really make you feel welcome.
The clientele is as diverse as the town of Ramona itself. On weekends, expect to see many Harley-Davidsons lined up outside as it's a favorite stop for bikers out for a scenic ride. Weekdays and weekends, too, local ranchers, business people, white collar and blue collar all step up to the bar for a cold one.
Live music is present after 9 PM on, at least, Fridays and Saturdays. They do have occasional Thursday night and Sunday gigs. And sometimes famous musicians with gigs down in San Diego will come up to Cheers to 'escape' and jam with their local friends. If the parking lot is packed, then this very thing just might be going on.
If there's a game on TV, it will be on at Cheers. They have several very large TVs around the main bar area.
Nope, it's not fancy, but it's nice and comfortable, and that's how we like it.
