We were hesitant to eat here when we read reviews. There was no need for hesitation. Seated quickly, chips served immediately, orders (food and drinks) were as fast as we could decide, food was great, staff extremely friendly. I highly recommend it. All of us (family of four w kids 10 and 13) loved it and will return on next visit. Regards.
Review Source:I came here right before I took a cruise on the MS Dixie. Â It was on the way and close to the hotel so why not. Â The customer service was great. Â Were greeted as soon as we came into the door by the bartender. Â That aside the menu prices were a bit different from the prices I am use to in Solano county. Â The Mix fajita platter was 18 and some change. Â I don't recall it costing that much. Â I settled with there lunch combo which was a Santa Fe salad and Homemade tortilla soup for around 8 bucks. Â I also had there freshly made guacamole... can never go wrong with that. Â They added jalapeno which added some heat; which i like. Â I also had an Ice Tea to drink. Â There is no view of the lake from this spot. Â It is covered by some hotel under construction. Â They also have outdoor seating for those who wish to sit outside and enjoy the view of the hotel or just sit outside in the cool air.
Review Source:Im always a fan of Chevys and im sad to say if this is the kind of service i will receive i vow never to come back. Â Myself and my man sat at the bar for a few drinks til we could check into our hotel down the street. Â Well we waited and waited while the bartender/server was having a conversation with the other guest. Â I was patient but the amout of time i waited was quite rediculous. Â We finally got thier attention and i was not sure what i wanted to drink to i just ordered a water. Â Thank god my mouth was not on fire, i would have died. Â im mean really, how long should it take to get a glass of water, not 7-10min. Â No bueno. C'mon guys, you can do better.
Review Source:I come here only for the Tostada Salad other then that I avoid this place, been here with friends a few times and have never once had anyone come out not feeling sick.
The Carnitas are hit and miss, I usually love them but last time they tasted horrible so now i just stick to chicken on my salad. As far as the fajita platters, Â 8 friends have gotten sick off of them.
So be warned.
Only rated so many stars because the staff is really friendly and like i said i like the salad.
This was truly the best Chevy's, and best mexican food I've had in a long time. First: the server was awesome - we ate there 3/15/13 evening and took our kids. He volunteered us the happy hour prices from the bar even though we sat at a table with our kids. Also, since we are not big eaters, he offered us to split a kids menu item (threw in a free dessert!) and the veggie fahitas, in which he pressed extra tortillas gratis. If i wasn't concerned about gaining 15lbs in 2 days we would have gone there again. The veggies were hot, fresh and varied. Guac was awesome, sour cream was awesome. We live in SF among some of the best restaurants, but this experience beat most of the "authentic" mission-style places in the City HANDS DOWN.
Review Source:Absolute worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant. Our server was terrible. And for no reason at all. I came here during a vacation with my two sisters. We were ignored for the most part, besides our order FINALLY being taken. We saw our server spending his time flirting with an underage girl at the bar and about a half hour (maybe longer) later our food came out. COLD. "sizzling" fajitas? I think not. We sat there looking at our plates for another 45 minutes before our server came back and said I'll get you boxes. It wasn't a busy day at all mind you. And after we had boxed our food up that we didn't really even want, we waited, and waited another half hour or so before a manager came by only to start up a conversation with our server and clear our plates (barely acknowledged us, definitely didn't ask how anything was, just took our plates) and another 10 minutes of awkward waiting before we got our check. Stay away from this place.
Review Source:One of the best Chevy's in a long time. Â We were huge Chevy's fans and still can be if all Chevy's were like this one.
Chevy's food used to be fresh and abundant. Â More recently, especially the local one near our home in San Ramon, CA, quality has gone severely down. Â We used to go every weekend and now only go once in a blue moon.
But because my kids still love the place, we were up in Tahoe and this Chevy's was right across the street from our hotel. Â So we went in.
We still ordered our usual and everything came out FRESH and so much food that we could hardly finish it. Â This is how I remembered the other Chevy's used to be. Â It's just been so long since we have had a great time and this time we certainly did!
Can you please send your team to the San Ramon restaurant???
Chevy's Fresh Mex Restaurant
South Lake Tahoe, California
11am Saturday 10th February 2013
Three Stars
We stopped in for Bloody Mary's. Â The mix wasn't great but it was a fine way to start the morning. Â We snacked on their deliciously thin tortilla chips and spicy salsa. Â The bartender was nice and accomodating.
So after a long drive from the bay area we decided to eat at Chevy's . Seemed safe enough. Our son ordered a bean burrito with veggies. They brought him a burrito with fries. We figured it was a mistake, no big deal. Our son puts ketchup on his plate and starts eating the fries. I tell the food runner he is missing his veggies and there might be a mistake. He takes the plate and puts it on the table next to us and they start eating with the ketchup he was using. Omg. Then about 5 minutes later our sons burrito came with a bite out of it. Seriously!!! You can't make this kinda stuff up. On the plus side we have a story for life we can laugh about.
We discussed with the manager and he was nice and receptive. However, he took off the burrito from the bill and gave the kids dessert. After having been a manger in restraurants years ago. I would have never allowed a patron to pay after an incident like that.
I don't know why there's a lot of negative reviews. Had dinner last night and it was delish, sat at the bar and the drinks were strong. Best Chevys I've ever been to and that's a lot because I've been to Chevy all over California. Four stars because the basket of chips was a little small.
Review Source:Don't read into the negative reviews. Any place can have a bad night but we did not experience anything negative. .Food was great! 14 of us on a Friday night. Food was hot and delicious, chips and salsa were always full. Our waiter Daniel was on it! He was friendly and made sure we always got what we needed and on time! As a tourist I would go back here again, Chevys chips and salsa are delicious! Bar drinks were great too! Pacifico on tap!? AWESOME
Review Source:Food was terrible. I took my 5 grandchildren out to dinner for a their last night in Tahoe. Have eaten at this Chevys before and have experienced good food and service. This night I was completely turn off of Chevys food. I requested my steak medium rare, it came out well done and barely lukewarm. The service was par from Chevys standard. I'm hoping all this Chevy is a representation of all the Chevys restaurants.
Review Source:Cigarettes and beer. That's all I can say about Chevy's. And I don't drink or smoke anymore.
My black beans tasted like beer. Truly, like they were swimming in a dark brew. I asked the waitress why and she said they add some beer for flavor (which they don't mention in the menu, AA members beware) but you shouldn't taste it. Well taste it I did... Which makes the fact that my spanish rice tasted like cigarettes a bit disconcerting.
The waitress is nice. But I won't eat here again.
Food was ok but nothing to write home about. Â The service was good, but we were literally the only people in the entire restaurant at 12:30 on a Friday. Â Really bizarre. Â We were only in Lake Tahoe for a couple of days, so there are lots of places I would try before returning here.
Review Source:We made our annual trek to South Lake Tahoe and stopped in the Chevy's . Everyone in our family of 5 enjoys the food there. We adults especially enjoy the fresh fruit margaritas! The servers always seem very attentive and pleasant. Prices are good. The food has a bit of a Tex-Mex spin to it but being Hispanic myself, I'm never disapointed. I find it quite tasty.
Review Source:The service was good. Very nice young lady that brought my impatient girls dough balls of tortilla dough to play with and extra crayons when they fought over the few they originally had.
The food was typical chain Chevy food. Not bad but not great either.
There's a nice little patio in between the restaurant and parking lot that blocked us from the breeze and scorching sun. It was nice for a late summer afternoon.
We have always had a very pleasant experience here. I like that everytime we come here the service, atmosphere and food are alway good and we know what to expect (especially when we don't want a surprise).
I have certain dietary needs and likes and they always have come through. During the summer the patio is great too. So for those who want an all around good meal and drinks, stop in.
This review is really just for the guacamole because I can sum up all the rest of Chevy's food in one word...mediocre.
If you haven't ordered guacamole here, you're really missing out. I haven't ever had such fresh guacamole before. They literally come out, slice some avocados, and make the guacamole right in front of you! Here's a pic: http://s3-media2.ak.yelp…. You can tell them how spicy you want it and if you want more of certain ingredients added into the mix. Chevy's isn't exactly authentic, but I haven't witnessed this in a Mexican restaurant before. Because of the guacamole, I am still a fan. I just wish they would add it into their Happy Hour menu, so I wouldn't have to pay full price all the time.
I used to eat at Chevys all the time when I lived in Tahoe. My favorite part was the fresh made tortillas. I recently visited Lake Tahoe, and we ended up here for dinner one night. I ordered the shrimp and crap enchiladas which I remember as being divine, but they have since changed the recipe or something. They weren't quite as good as I remember. I think the sauce changed. They also changed the machine that makes the tortillas, and it is not nearly as good. It makes them too thick, so they aren't as light and fluffy as they used to be. They were also short staffed. we ended up having to wait 10-15 minutes for a table even though half the restaurant was empty, and our waiter was not able to give us our full attention since I think he was the only one there, with too many tables.
The chips and salsa are still delicious, but overall I was a little disappointed that the quality had gone down. Hopefully they were just having an off night.
My parents took me to see Lake Tahoe for the very first time... and we stopped here for dinner.
We were starving because we decided not to have lunch so by the time we got here, I wanted everything on the menu.
My mom and I were debating between the same 2 things so we ordered a salad and split some chicken tacos. It's what I expected. The tacos were a lot more delicious than I had expected, I wish I had the name of what I ordered but there wasn't anything special about them I'm sure a chicken taco is a chicken taco... The salad was fresh and HUGE! My dad even got to try it, I was so stuffed at the end, he ate what was left. It had corn, little tortilla chips, avocado, bacon... it was really good.
As for the atmosphere and service, I don't know. It wasn't over the top and we decided to sit indoors because we were hot from all day of walking around so we wanted some A/C. They sat us near the door. It seemed that was the only open section because as soon as we got sat, so did every table around us... and the entire restaurant was empty. Oh did I mention there were tons of flies... major bummer.
The strawberry lemonade was really good! Syrup-y but very refreshing!
This place sucks huge, hairy Donkey balls. They must keep the dungeon-like lighting to hide the crappy appearance of the food, rather than create any ambiance. I get the feeling that the staff shows up for work stoned as they all seem to have a fixed, euphoric grin on their faces.
I will say that the food tasted OK down, but soon made a reappearance as it had me sitting on the crapper shortly afterwards..
Aye, No bueno!! Â Please Chevy's, CLOSE THIS PLACE DOWN - IT SUCKS!!!
This place needs a serious facelift and has for the past 10 years I think. Â Seems this Chevy's must be a franchise, rather than company owned. Â We don't sit at the bar, just because it LOOKS sticky.....however...slim pickins here in Tahoe.
Happy hour Top Shelf Margaritas are $3.00, but add $1.00 for 1800 Tequila. Â 4-7 pm. GREAT.
Fire Roasted Tomato Salsa with fresh, warm, light and crispy tortilla chips. GREAT.
Tableside Guacamole made right in front of you with all the usual accoutrements including jalapeno peppers, made to your spiciness taste and accompanied by thicker chips (so they don't break in the Guac). Good idea, right? Â GREAT.
Our waiter Miguel. Good attitude (fun actually) and attentive. GREAT. ***Miguel pushed this review up to the 4th star, even though he carded the entire table next to us, but not us. ;)
Fish Tacos....made with salmon? ME THINKS NOT. I'll try something else next time. Still love the tomalito side.
Why all the bad reviews? I may have been starving and hadn't had a cooked meal in 2 days but CHEVYS IS AWESOME!
First of all, they close @ 10 pm, but were willing to stay open for us even though we got there near closing!
Second UNLIMITED FREE chips/salsa & their scrumptious warm/chewy puffy flour tortillas!!
we all enjoyed our food & everything was fresh even though they were closing! my favorites had to be my salmon fish tacos! the salmon was grilled perfectly w/ just a bit of crust! & the beef taquitos were delicious w/ a really flaky/crispy outside! OH and let's not forget about that yummy sweet corn mash!
the waiter was super nice & let us substitute our sides of beans for mixed veggies or extra rice!
my friends loved it so much they came back a second day w/o me! but honestly in this area, its slim pickings for restaurants if you want to stay away from fast food and the endless number of pizza joints in town
It's been quite awhile since I've had Chevy's and I was excited about the menu changes. New recipes included a portabella & artichoke enchilada with a roasted pablano sauce and a crab/shrimp quesadilla.
I went with their new combo plate, which included the enchilada mentioned above, a carnitas taco, and sides. The flavor was excellent but that evening I was stricken with stomach cramps. The following morning I had symptoms of full-on food poisoning. It ruined my entire Saturday that I was going to spend with my stepson at the snow park.
It's really hard to give any props to a restaurant that gives you food poisoning, but here goes:
- The food tasted great.
- The salsa was excellent, as usual.
- Generous portions.
- A fire pit for warm outdoor seating (it wasn't lit when we were there).
The negatives:
- Food poisoning.
- Slow service from an entirely-too-quiet waiter in a busy restaurant.
- No ambiance whatsoever.
This one trip almost ruined my entire weekend. That's enough for me to never return, ever again, in any city.
This restaurant is okay. Â Service was slow (Saturday night). Â Apparently there were two different salsas. Â The one this restaurant gave me was the awful one (tastes like rubber).
I had to ask for the non-terrible salsa (red). Â Ordered a flavored iced tea, and that tasted like bubblegum.
The food was very good, though!
Why do I come here repeatedly? Â Two words. Â CHIPS and SALSA.
I don't know why but I LOVE the chips and salsa here. Â The chips are thin and airy and the salsa is flavorful with just the right amount of spiciness.
I order the main entree only because I have to. Â Otherwise, I would just plop my butt down at a table and eat the chips and salsa here until I blow up.
After not being able to choose which local place to go my girlfriend and I puled into Chevy's figuring it would be at least decent American chain food, but holy-crap-on-mom's-shoes we were wrong.
It took a few minutes for one of the many waiters (all of which were standing at the bar talking to each other) to come and greet us but I immediately forgot about this once we say down and the free chips and salsa came. After chowing down 2 plates of the chips we decided to share a 4-item comb. You choose 4 items from a list of enchiladas, tacos, chile rellenos and something else and you get a sides of beans and rice. There is a choice of mostly bacon-cooked beans, but my girlfriend is vegetarian so we asked the waiter for the one that didn't have bacon in it.
The food quickly came (we gulped down another basket of chips while waiting) and we began to eat away. I first ate my carne asada enchilada. The sauce was fine, but the beef was incredibly dry and tasted like it was cooked with McCormick's taco seasoning. The chile rellenos was also fairly unimpressive. After my girlfriend ate a fourth of the beans she noticed a big chunk of bacon which sealed the deal as far as "this place sucks" goes.
I left full from the massive amount of food, but incredibly unsatisfied as far as what I had eaten.
You figure a chain restaurant, they've got to have it down to a science. Not so here. This has to be the worst Chevys experience ever.
It was 7:30PM Sat evening place was packed. We were told table for 8 about 15mins, we were seated within 25min - not bad. Hostess walked us to a table, my daughter sat down placed her hand on the table (grease). We asked them to re-wipe the table. We get menus, chips & salsa, and waiter takes drink orders. We also order kids meal for my daughter. 20mins later her meal shows up, we ask waitress for place setting. She walks off then comes back and said "you need to ask your waiter, we are backed up, also your food is not her". I pointed at my daughter's meal where's her setting. She said ask your waiter, I'm sorry.
The remaining experience: No chips & salsa refill, no soda refill, soups cold, waiter MIA - plain lousy service. Two star's for being busy, we will not return...
I thought that exercise (skiing/snowboarding) and lack of food (travelling at 0 dark thirty...and skiing all morning) Â would make ANYTHING taste good.....this Chevy's made me second-guess this line of thinking.
The food was BLAND. Â My boyfriend and I ordered the Chicken Flautas....say what? The definition that I found online for a flauta says, " A corn tortilla wrapped around a savory filling and fried."....uhmm...Chevy's, I think that you missed the whole..."savory filling" aspect of the definition. Â
In addition, the food ain't cheap...
The waitress was nice, but "pushing" the dessert menu, since they apparently have instituted some type of contest among the servers to sell a certain quota of desserts.
Oh...and I heard the waitress sniffling and coughing...and then, serving us tortilla chips. Â Honey, I know that you have to make money (we ALL DO)....but if you are a server with a cold...puhllleaze...don't service me!
Sorry, folks...there is no "fresh" to this "mex".
Nothing makes you appreciate life like driving a rented Kia Spectra to Tahoe, without chains.
To celebrate making the trip there in one fine piece - and making it out of Harrah's after being treated like one fine piece- we chose Chevy's for dinner.
I consider myself to be an expert on Chicken Tortilla Soup. Â WTF is the problem with this place? Â I haven't seen that much grease since Cabo Wabo's Naughty Gras party.
+1 Star for serving us at 11 p.m.
After a full day of drinking, going to Chevy's sounded reasonable for dinner. Â We all pretty much decided to have another round of drinks and all the margarita glasses were about the size of our heads- great idea!
We split some nachos and fajitas and they were fine. Â But the chips and salsa kicked ass. Â Maybe it was all the drinking all day, but Chevy's was fast and our group was in need of food - stat.
Bonus star for the group of servers to come over and sing Happy Birthday to Yelper, Holly M. Â It made for a great drunk time! (BTW, our server pretty much kicked ass!)
Me and some friends came here after our plans of making dinner at our hotel room were thwarted when the supermarkets closed at 7pm. It was the punishment we had to pay for our lack of planning.
There were quite a few people there when we got there at 8:30pm, but were seated promptly. We ordered the guacamole to be made table side - the waitress did a good job of making it, but it was below average. We had to add salt to make it tolerable. The chips were good, though.
And speaking of the waitress, she was very good natured and accommodating. She had mentioned in passing that she was a vegetarian, so she was able to point out the vegetarian options for me.
For an entree, I had the Spinach, Artichoke & Mushroom Enchiladas - it was warm and filling, but not necessarily amazing.
I initially wanted to give one star for the food, but I thought the waitress was nice enough to merit an additional star... Plus with it being Christmas eve, I'm feeling a little generous!
Can I give it .5 stars?
It was the most disgusting display of customer service and food I have ever had!
I love the Chevys in San Jose, but this one is horrible.
Terrible customer service. Overpriced. And the tortillas, which I normally love, tasted like cardboard!
I will NEVER go back.
Horrible. Â Horrible. Â Horrible. Â Thank god, I've been to other great Chevy's Restaurants (ie Foster City, Palo Alto). Â This franchise location is SHAMEFUL. Â Came here with a large group (9 folks), most dishes were bad.
Long wait to be seated even with reservations.
Poor slow service.
Food bad.
Glasses dirty.
Poor value and disappointing experience for the amount of money spent here $285+...
Never to return here under any circumstances...
