Not easy on the wallet. Terrible Shepard's Pie. Slow unfriendly service. They need to find happy people to work there, no body seems to know how to smile and treat the customers right so they want to return.  We moved to Gilroy recently and were trying to find a favorite restaurant, no such luck here at the Claddagh.

Beer selection is not that great. But they do have an IPA or two that will get me by.

The decor is old but definitely reflective of an American Irish pub.

Service is very good.  I have been here twice and the lady who helped us was very helpful and nice.

I had the clam chowder which is very good.  Also I have had the chicken noodle and tomato basil.  I recommend them all.

A pleasant surprise. Stopped with the kids for a quick lunch and had a great experience. Staff and owner were super friendly, great service and the food was delicious. We had the Irish fish, shepherds pie , hamburgers and a wonderful bread pudding for dessert. Highly recommended. We will be back.

Found them on Yelp on our way through town, and the reviews were spot on. Fish and chips were terrific, bangers and mash were fantastic. Sausage was some of the best I've had - fresh, not greasy at all, and grilled to perfection. Definitely order the hot mustard.  Service was great - friendly and prompt. We think it was the proprietor helping us?  She was great.

we were starving after a round of golf at nearby Eagleridge and saw their sign on our way to the freeway to make our way back to San Jose so decided to stop in.  Our waiter was a young man (don't think he ever told us his name) who was very nice and efficient.  My husband ordered the fish and chips and I had the Shepherd's pie.  The fish and chips were really good with a light crispy batter and my Shepherd's pie was pretty good.  The food came out quickly and we thought the prices were reasonable.

while leaving, our waiter had gone out and was just coming back in the door.  My husband joked that he was there to open the door for us and with a quick grin jumped back to the door and held it open for us.  something minor but it showed someone that seems to enjoy his customers.

Not a great selection of beer, but I loved the potato skins!

Beware of the fish and chips, they're massive; bring an appetite and a half. For munchies, try the garlic mushrooms.Bangers and Mash is good, but Corned Beef was on the dry side.

Folks this place is hands down, one of the best places to eat in Gilroy!  The food they serve there is absolutely delicious!  Today was our 4th visit to The Claddagh Irish Restaurant & Pub and my wife and I couldn't agree more that it is the place to go for fantastic food at affordable prices.  The co-owner, Mike, is wonderful and his staff follows in his footsteps.  Teri was our server today and didn't disappoint.  She was quick to come to our table, advised us of the "today's special" and made us feel welcomed and appreciated.  I must make a comment on the fish dish I had.  It was amazing!  Perfectly cooked and seasoned.  I can't wait to go back again just to eat their fish dishes!  When I think about it, I don't recall ever having a less then a delicious meal at this Irish Pub which by the way has a wide variety of foods on it's menu.  Something to please everyone.  So check them out.  The Claddagh is definitely the place to go for great food, relaxation and a casual atmosphere that has just the right touch.

    Hello:
We three visited the Claddagh restaurant on a Thursday night recently.   The place was not busy.
Two in our party ordered the Fish 'n Chips.  Much as I like Fish 'n Chips, I refuse to order those cooked in a "beer batter."    I ordered the Rib-Eye steak.
After numerous visits to this place, we notice there's a major decline in the size of the Fish portion in the Fish 'n Chips meal.    The Fish 'n Chips are said to be good, though the smaller portions will cause us to look elsewhere for this dish.

My Rib-Eye steak was cooked properly, and was quite good.   The veggies (carrots and broccoli) served with the steak were a bit too al dente...  as in a bit more cooking would have been nice. The red potatoes were cooked nicely.
     - Our server Allison was attentive and nice.   Remember, the place was not busy, though Allison always does a nice job.

-- I'd love to be able to rate this place with Four Stars...  but insofar as the place wasn't busy, the portions are a bit smaller than in the recent past, and the "brownie" served as part of our dessert seemed stale, we'll go with three stars.

I think Claddagh have a lot of potential to be good. The place is very spacious and drinks/food are pretty good. We came on a friday night and theres only about 20 people! You know why? No band when there's a stage, no tv, and you have to pay for your music that you pick from a jukebox. That is fun, but come on, no music at a bar? Enough said.

Worst bar tender ever... seriously! He was grouchy, slow and just an all around a-hole. I have been to this place a couple times and each time, he was the same.

We stopped by the liquor store a few doors down on the Saturday Evening of the Garlic Festival and the place looked dead. That's got to say something about that place.

I never ate food there so I am basing this solely on the lousy service.

I have been to Ireland and if this place wants to be a real Irish Pub, they need to boot this chump and get someone who has personality, who is pleasant to be around and who is attentive to customers.

Love the Claddagh.  We go there about once a week.  It's very convenient and you can always find a table right away.  They have a full bar and very friendly people.  The owner is great.  I've even found some low cal stuff on the menu.  We used to do the fish and chips, which are great, or bangers and mash, or one of the specials.  Now I regularly order the Dublin fish and salad.  This works great for my diet.

    Amazing service!!! Great food!!!

After stopping at five different restaurants in Gilroy asking about gluten free food (getting everything from standing waiting for ten minutes and finally leaving to waitresses actually complaining about how inconvenient food allergies are for them and two restaurant were closed because it was a Monday) we finally made it to the pub as the locals call it. We walked in and the female owner (blanking on name) came over to greet us, I asked her about gluten free food and  expected the usual rolling of the eyes with a "you can look at the menu" but to my delight she said she wasn't familiar with the allergy but she makes all their dishes from scratch and would be happy to make what I wanted gluten free! We had to come back about forty minutes later as we were meeting family for dinner and by the time I got back she had taken a take-out menu and highlighted all of my safe choices!!! If you don't have food allergies you have no idea how reassuring it is to actually have the chef looking out for you.

Thoroughly impressed plus everyone said the food was fantastic and the drinks were well made!

We've been dropping by on and off for years, we love the fish and chips but have tired other dishes and not been pleased.  It's more of a sports bar setting now.  At one time they had music and the food seemed ok.  But the last few times we went to eat there we were the only ones sitting at a table eating, there were a few people sitting at the bar drinking and watching sports on tv so we ate and left.  Too bad they changed to a sports bar and let the restaurant piece go to the side.

They have a minimal selection of beer, but they usually have some good local stuff on draft.

The food is good, but you've got to stick to classic bar fare. Fish & Chips, potato skins, etc.

The vibe is nice and relaxed, never super crowded (except for St. Patricks day of course), and plenty of booths and tables in addition to the bar.

Fish n Chips here are very good.

If you are going to make it an early evening this place is just fine... But if you plan on being out after 10pm - This is not the place for you...

They seem to be caught in a vicious circle of closing early because there isn't enough business - But then people don't go there because they close early which gives them less business...

I don't understand it...  I was with a group and i went up to the bar to order a round of drinks for 8 people at 9:30 on a weekday and was told no that they were closing up...  It was very strange... If you were the owner wouldn't you rather have stayed open another hour and made the $80-$100 we were about to spend?

Great food, good atmosphere for whole family, and a very good selection of games on at any one time.  We really had a good time each time that we have been in.  The owners were also very supportive of our kids school fundraiser.

Best local spot for fish-n-chips and also hosts the best local St. Patty's day party!

Have been there several times and have always gotten good service and good food.  The owner is usually there and will stop by the table to see how everything was and offers the kids a lollipop...a sweet gesture (no pun intended!)

Plenty of tv's - always have sports going..great for the kids - has games in the arcade.

    Full bar and friendly bartenders.

This place is quite possible the best Sports Bar around. They always have the good games on and if you are a soccer fan, this is the place to be. The food is better than any other sports bar I have been to and they regularly have great specials. Alcohol prices are a bit steep, but definitely worth it given the atmosphere.

3 Stars in my book is considered a good time.
I'm originally from back East, so anytime I find good sea food I am impressed! This place is tasty! The price however is quiet steep.

    Beer $5
    Soda $2.50
Cheese stix $5+, for only 5 pieces
Sea food Combo Platter $20.20, includes 1 piece of cod, 3 fried prawns, and a handful of calamari.

My opinion; If you're looking for some good sea food, you should spend $10 in gas driving to Capitola or Monterey and spend $10-15 dollars on your own plate rather than sharing. If you're not interested in heading out of town, then hit up this place.  Either way you're gonna pay over $30.

Tried the food & it's really yummy!! Had the corned beef & cabbage...I have never tried it before & I really liked it. And I discovered there is no corn associated with it at all. Weird??
It's a very traditional meal with carrots, red potatoes & cabbage & super lean beef with hot mustard. I enjoyed it. =)

My lunch mates had the spicy chicken sandwich & the stew. Both said it was really good...O, and the cream of spinach soup, really creamy & tasty.

Our waitress was AMAZING as well, I loved her. She did such a good job & is very pretty(never hurts) ;) & just makes this place so much better.

    I'll def be back!

My friend and I wanted to watch the final World Cup game sometime between our trek from Berkeley to Oxnard.  So we stopped by here where she learned that they were showing it.

I was surprised to find it in the middle of a mall plaza..I expected it to be isolated from other businesses, or near other bars.  Guess not.

It was a little empty inside on a Sunday afternoon.  I liked the many flat screens around the area where we could watch the game.

So the food: I ordered calamari with a bowl of clam chowder for about $10.  I got 9 pieces of calamari which weren't all that great, and a good bowl of clam chowder that did not taste from a can.  It was overall just alright.

Driving around with my dad and looking for a place for dinner, he pointed to Claddagh and said "Let's go there!"

We walked in and were told to sit anywhere. The dining room is very large and has six TV screens, most of them showing different sports which was a bit distracting.

Service was prompt and friendly. My dad had the daily special, beer battered salmon with mashed potatoes and veggies. It looked good although the veggies seemed like they had been on the steam table too long. I had fish and chips. The cod was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The chips were standard french fries. The tartar sauce didn't seem to be homemade and wasn't that good.

The owner (?) came over to see how we were doing. I assume he was the owner as he had a noticeable Irish brogue.

Claddagh has a wide selection of beers and the menu is pretty broad too besides the traditional items like fish and chips.

We live about a mile from the Claddagh, and go there periodically. I have to agree with some of the other reviewers:
    * This isn't an Irish Pub, it's an American Sports Bar with an Irish name and quasi-British food
    * Food is decent but not great, and generally over-priced
    * Good beer selection
    * Service at the bar is generally OK
    * Service at tables is indifferent on most occasions.

This is not the best pub around, nor does it have any exceptional items on the menu.  The banger sandwich is fairly good.  For some reason, it seems woefully overpriced for the type and quantity of food.

Cheap Seats in Hollister has better food (by far) and lower prices.

All in all, I'll pass on the Claddagh.

It's extremely hard to find a good pub in Gilroy and the Claddagh is no exception.  Usually not too busy however the service seems very slow (on multiple occasions I have ordered a drink at a table and proceeded to go up and get it for myself 15 minutes later at the bar out of frustration).  The beer is expensive relative to anywhere else in the area (A pitcher of Sierra Nevada cost me 17.50).  I stopped going there, if you are thinking about going save yourself the headache and just go to Ninja or stubbys right down the road.

Our struggle to find decent food at a reasonable price in the area continues.   Shoot, we'd settle for excellent, expensive food at this point!  But it mainly seems like all we find is either okay, over priced food, or in this case...

way over priced, for bad food. We thought we couldn't go wrong w/ your basic fish-n-ship w/ a beer. Well, the beer was good. The fish was EXTREMELY over priced and I could have handled that if it was at least good. But it wasn't very soggy/greasy.

For an "Irish" Pub, it ain't all that O'McFitz-y, so to speak.  Too big, too bland, too "meh".   You gotta love all the cheap plastic promotional material from every cheap plastic beer company.  Try harder people!

Well, there is something to be said for an Irish pub run by an actual ethnic Irishman (he's actually quite a decent fellow..)

A lot of the food is honestly pretty good, though I have to admit that I've never went there just to experience Gaelic cuisine, but in response to an invitation from my father-in-law who is paying.
These are large group affairs, and the crew handles the numbers nicely.

I don't drink alcohol (you know how all humans in the world are only entitled to SO MUCH liquor? Well, I already drank mine,) so a lot of the "Celtic Atmosphere," is lost on me.

I am, however, a huge fan of Irish music, however, the owner's commitment to his treasured musical culture is low to non-existant.

He once admitted to me that the place hauled in considerably more money as a "Sports Bar," than it ever did as any sort of a musical venue.

This is a tragedy as far as I am concerned.
Hell, here you are-- you've GOT the Irishman- he OWNS a bar WITH a stage and all the atmosphere and NO MUSIC.

    Sad really.

Ok so this place is actually owned by an irish guy. With an irish accent. Who like to drink beer. So thats all good news.

The food here is decent and the prices are a little heavy.
The beer selection is fantastic. They have all kinds of good european beer on tap like Guiness, Bass, Harps, Newcastle, and Boddingtons.

The bartenders will make you any kind of drink you want and theres 4-5 tvs behind the bar.

The real reason this bar is getting 5 stars is this:

I have only gotten arrested shortly after leaving a bar once in my life. This was that bar. I had such a good time there drinking beer and flaming hot dr. peppers that a few hours later I ended up in jail for the rest of the weekend. Now THATS a good time, so if your lookin for a good time this is the place to go.

And they actually have a BIG bar with a lot of seats.

PACKED on st. patties day so have some green beer if thats your thing.

I visited this bar for the first time about a year ago with some of my friends from Gavilan College on St. Patrick's Day.  Everything was great, and we had a blast!  As it was the most appropriate holiday to visit an Irish Pub, I'm not surprised that my corned beef and cabbage was so delicious.

Good beers, good atmosphere, and definitely one of the few places in Gilroy where you can go to have a drink without being worried about a fight breaking out.
