Jovial pub with unfortunately bleak food. Had the fish and chips. Fish was old, over cooked, and fried in oil that smelled off. Oddly the fish and batter was so hard around the edges, it was difficult to even bite off. Disgusting. Truly a shame because the place is beautiful, with fun live music. Good place for drinks, awful place for a meal.

Good food, value & variety on lunch menu. Our entire large party, of all ages, was satisfied. Service was excellent in this unique, cozy, "Authentic Irish Pub".

Back home for the holidays and decided to stop in for a quick bite to eat.  I have to say what a disappointment.  the food is so far from the food I get it Ireland and really no Murphys?  come on lets not leave cork out they make beer too ya know.  And for the love of all that is holy shepherds pie has lamb in it cottage pie has beef in it.

Not the best food in the world I will admit that, but when it comes to great cold weather atmosphere and a good place to get a pint of Guinness in an old fashion settle, this is THE PLACE! Very comforting for those cold Syracuse days. As long as expectations are not NYC restaurant high, the food is acceptable. It is what it is, love it for what it is.

I am neither Irish nor a bar-goer so my review reflects that.  Reasonably priced.  Delicious food--we were able to enjoy it on a weeknight with my parents and kids.  While I agree spanikopita on an Irish pub menu was a bit odd, we had the chicken pub pie, the stuffed pork chops, bangers and mash and Guiness Stew was all delicious.  I highly recommend

Quality neighborhood bar.  Drinks are cheap, but the selection is a little slim.  Weeknights are dead, weekends are crazy busy.

Coleman's is nice.  The food is good, and the service is prompt.  I like eating in the sunken dining room with the fireplace.  My sister likes the large bar; they have a lot on tap and there's usually a game on.  Plenty of seating all around, and plenty of parking.  Cost is normal.

Been here a few times for drinks. Bartenders were so-so. I ate here with a group a month or so ago and the food was really great, as was the service (we called and got reservations, and they were flexible). Comfortable place when it's not on one of the crazy, packed party nights.

This is more a review of the bar than the food/restaurant. Live music every Friday and Saturday night, plus on many Thursdays, Sundays and various other events. It's in a neighborhood where tons of twenty-somethings live, and most of them end up at Coleman's after a night on the town. Just a great gathering spot, watering hole, with a nice old-world feel to it.

We stopped by here after the zoo with a good friend of my husband's and his eight year old.  Unless you know what it's like to go to a small city and hang out in one of the most genuine parts of it, you won't understand the charms of a pub like this.

I don't know that it's all that authentic...it's on Tipperary Hill, the Irish section, but it just feels right.

This place isn't glamorous, which is exactly why I love it.

I started the evening off with an appetizer of mozzarella sticks and the red sauce had the clearly burnt taste, the mozz sticks where nice and hot, big plus. For the meal I had Shepard's Pie which was great,

This place is just so cool. The food is delicious and the kids (and adults) will delight over the "Leprachaun Door" outside (When I was little, the owner used to let kids crawl through, though I don't know if he does that anymore!).

The service is also very good and they host private parties of which my family has held 2.

Fun fact: the country's only "reverse" traffic light is situated on Tipparary Hill near Coleman's. For any tourists out there, it's fun to know that this light has the green on the top at the insistence of an early very-heavy Irish population.

If you have to say "Authentic Irish" you might as well call it "Colemans Plastic Paddy Pub "..... Psst....most authentic pubs in Ireland dont have nachos on the menu. Most of all...Syracuse last I checked isn't anywhere near County Cork.

Full bar with lots of Stout. Food is a great selection of Irish fare. We had Soda bread appetizer. No leprechauns were sited however they have their own entrance and phone.

Love the look of the place but it ends there.  I have tried the cornbeef and cabbage, the stew in bread bowl and the 1/2 chicken.  I love to cook myself so when I tell you, the stew is from a can of Dinty Moore and the so called "vegitable rice pilaf" is Uncle Bens 90 sec. Microwave package, you'll have to trust that even if my guess is wrong, the flavor fits.  The 1/2 chicken was overcooked, dry and the only flavor I could taste was its 3 or 4 days of siting getting nasty taste.  The cornbeef was tough and chewey and the cabbage and potatos seem not to have been cooked with the beef so the cabbage and potatos end up tasting like dish water.  I am sure they must make something good to eat, but for me, I give up tring.  Stick to beer and bands and somewhere else to eat.

I go here solely for their cheese steak sandwich. So. Good.

And, really, that's about it. My friends live within walking distance so I've been quite a few times, and it doesn't really do it for me as a bar. I think the layout makes it feel cramped and it's usually too loud. Also, we had an issue with a bartender being snotty to my friend about the wine she was ordering, which was just off-putting. Nice pub look to the place though.

Really, it's nothing remarkable. Unless you want a cheese steak sandwich... then, head right on over because it's delicious.

Beer Battered Onion Rings (5 stars): Awesomeness! We had to get another order because they were so good!

Spinach Artichoke Dip (2 stars): The chips were straight out of a Tostito's bag. But who am I to expect fresh tortilla chips at an Irish Pub... Anyways the dip was boring, but that's usually the case for this appetizer right?

French Onion Soup (4 stars): Very good! Pungent swiss cheese. You can choose soup or salad with your meal, and this is definitely the best choice.

Ribeye Steak w/ Bleu Cheese (3 stars): The steak was perfectly cooked rare, it just wasn't the best steak. It was actually better cooked medium, and I'm a "Still Moo'ing" kind of girl.

Bangers and Mash (5 stars): I hate to admit I thought this would be incredibly bland. I mean, sausages and potatoes w/ gravy? I wouldn't have ordered it without the multiple recommendations and they were accurate. I really don't like mashed potatoes but these were amazing. And the sausages in onion-y gravy were heavenly. This dish is the reason to go here.

Some Forgettable Dessert (?): Minty thing.

    Guinness on tap = excellent!

Atmosphere (4 stars): There is an old-fashioned phone booth out front, and a mini "leprechaun" phone booth next to it. There is also a leprechaun door (but don't try to go through it... it's sealed shut...) The walls are decorated with creepy pictures of red headed children and shillelaghs.

Coleman's is a cool spot for drinks but it can get crowded quickly. I went on St. Patty's Day last year and it was insane. However, I've also gone on weekdays where the vibe is more chill and you can actually play pool and darts.

Cool place at night. Was there drinking late and there the next day for lunch as well. Seems like two different locations.

Nighttime = hammer time. Place is cool, dark, nice vibe, lotsaaaaaa people, dark and cozy. Great drinks, good prices.

Lunchtime = Place is okay, well lit, too well lit as you see how kinda dingy it is. Food is okay but nothing I'd go back for.

Overall, if you're in Syracuse, check it out...........but at night.

    Leprechaun door outside = Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, the decor in Coleman's is unique and authentic. It's a hot spot during St. Patrick's Day and I can see why. The full bar is a good size, the atmosphere is buzzing and don't forget about their famous green beer! However, the dining experience was a bit disappointing. I ordered a Margarita for a drink and it was almost sickeningly sweet...i could only finish half of it. The meal was OK. I ordered pasta primavera with an alfredo sauce and the sauce was lumpy and not of a smooth consistency. it was also very heavy and I couldn't even eat half of it.

My husband ordered to cornbeef and cabbage, which he said was nothing special. My mom and dad had the same sentiments about their meals and we were all a bit disappointed.

So, I guess if you are looking for a fun hang-out spot at the bar, Coleman's is the place to go (or so I hear, I have never been there just for the bar)...but the dining experience is somewhat different.

I little slice of Ireland right here in upstate NY.

Went to Coleman's on Monday night with Melissa Leigh and Joey B.. I've never been to Ireland but I have family there and family here from there, but places like this make me want to go. I want to drink my arse off in a REAL Irish pub, not just an authentic feeling one.

The pub is in a very Irish neighborhood of Syracuse called Tipp Hill? There are shamrocks adorning most of the nice houses in the surrounding area, in May.

There are upside down traffic lights with the Green bulb on top!

There are side by side phone booths, one normal size and one about waist high for the "Wee People" to use!

There are two entrances, one normal door and one tiny door just for our Leprechaun friends!

The bar itself is nicely decorated with rich, dark woods, and lots of beautiful stained glass dividers. I did wonder about such fragile looking decor mixing with a rowdy , drinking Irish crowd.

Our server was Meghan, a beautiful blond lass, who took terrific care of us. I had Fish and Chips that was delicious. Missy had a Chicken Pub Pie that looked great, and she said tasted as good as it looked. Joey B., who is half Irish and half Puerto Rican, gobbled up a Reuben that he also raved about.

We browsed the gift shop on the way out, where they have a nice selection of T-shirts, nick knacks and cool Pint Glasses, etc..

We all thoroughly enjoyed our time here, 6 thumbs up!

    Colemans is Closed

I miss it. The food was okay. It was a great place to hang out on the patio on a warm summer night and watch boats go by on the canal.

Went here with my boyfriend's family.  It's located within a Irish neighborhood.  Cute decor outside, including a leprechaun's size phone booth!

Appetizers: Irish soda bread (good but the butter was cold and it was hard to spread) and onion rings (huge and pretty tasty with a mayonnaise dipping sauce).

Entree: I had the Shepherd's Pie.  I also sampled the Beef O'Flaherty and the Chicken Pub Pie.  The latter two were served with irish fries (a cross between potato chips and french fries).  Both pies were delicious.  The Beef O'Flaherty is apparently their most popular dish.  It was very tasty but it had way too much blue cheese in my opinion!  Next time, I would get the Beef O but ask for a reduced amount of cheese

Dessert: Deep fried cheesecake.  Yep, you read right.  It was pretty good and the fact that it was in a puff pasty definitely added to the flavor.  But the cheesecake inside the pastry sort of fell apart.  It tasted more like deep fried uber-fatty ricotta cheese.  I only had one bite because it was way way too rich for my taste!  It was covered in caramel, but I wish they had just sprinkled it with sugar and cinnamon.

Overall a great place.  A little overkill on the cheese on the Beef O and I wouldn't have the deep fried cheesecake again.

A must visit anytime you are in Syracuse. Can't go wrong with the Guiness beef stew.  Fantastic atmosphere.

Went to Coleman's this past Friday (12.26.08) for dinner and drinks.  I'm giving this 4 stars and I'd break it down as 3 Stars for the food and 5 Stars for the drinks / atmosphere.

The parking was great as we found a fantastic space right in front of the entrance.  It was already starting to fill up around the bar area and we were able to get a table for 4 almost immediately.  They had a coat room where you could hang your coat (a rarity in the SouthtEast).  We ordered a couple of beers and then I ordered the Guiness Burger and it came with Onion Straws and a potato pancake.  For authenticity...I think they do a great job.  However, I asked for the burger to be cooked medium-rare..and it came out more like well-done.  Oh...well...I should have sent it back.  But then again, they should have cooked it to order!  Our waitress was fine...nothing memorable.  The food was interesting....but as I remember it.....British Isles food generally is crap.  This really wasn't much better.

The much funner part of the night was the atmosphere / drinks.  By the time we finished dinner (maybe 9ish) the place was really starting to fill up.  However, I was still able to manage to get up to the bar sans problema.  The drinks were very affordable and there was lots of people watching to be had.  Do yourself a favor..eat somewhere else and then come here for drinking.

Having grown up in Syracuse I can relate to Christopher P.'s comments about Coleman's.  Syracuse as four sides and Coleman's is one of those bars that attracts groups from all sides.  Unfortunately, East Siders usually do not mingle with West Siders. Same goes with the North Siders.  Sometimes there is cross pollination.  Alchohol eventually does the trick.

At one point Coleman's was probably more of a traditional pub but it has expanded multiple times over the years.

The great thing is that Coleman's is in Tipp Hill which gives you multiple other options.

When I work on the South Side I used to frequent Coleman's for lunch.

I always frequent Coleman's when I visit my parents, most likely for the night scene. I do enjoy their food, its nothing to rave about but it gets the job done. I love the Guinness Steak, and their version of french fries. This is a place where I have ordered the Hoffman hot dog despite fun selections. The decor is impressive with a fireplace hardwood floors and bar. Be warned that during Harborfest the restaurant serves a limited menu. The deck is gorgeous overlooking the Oswego River. Monday Night Football is always a hopping scene. A visit to Oswego should include a trip to Coleman's.

Coleman's is billed as an Authentic Irish Pub.  For one thing, it definately has the decor.  The rich darkwoods all over the enormous, wrap-around bar are impressive.

But Coleman's doesn't deserve the word Pub in their name.  This is a bar with a restaurant.

On any Friday or Saturday night, Coleman's is packed with twenty-somethings from the entire Syracuse metro area.  The one goal here is to drink your arse off, and plenty people do it.  Unfortunately, in can be really difficult to strike up conversation here, as everyone travels in cliques.  If you show up late in the evening and are sober than most, you can wander the establishment almost undetected and observe the crowd, (bring your people-watching skills!)  Mostly it is small groups of friends huddled together, nursing each others enebriated state.

No, a pub requires more than just decor, it requires the atmosphere... and that means people, conversation, etc.  Try holding a conversation with a bartender at Colemans on a Friday or Saturday.  Unless you are a pretty young thing with cleavage hanging out, the publican is going to gladly serve your beverage and then move on to the next paying customer.

Coleman's also participates in some of the strangest pasttimes.  For example, "Green Beer Sunday" is when a tanker truck of green beer is delivered to the pub.  They set up an enormous tent outside so people can consume outdoors even in winter.  And don't forget St. Paddy's Day.  This place will have a line several hundred long out the door, all day and night long.

Granted, if you visit Syracuse, you must pay a visit to Coleman's.  But it's never going to qualify as your local pub.
