There are events and places we stumble upon in life sometimes, that make us wonder, " Why haven't I ever heard of this before... ?"
Concerts @ Karen's Place is one of those places. I had the good fortune to stumble upon this venue by reading a link of the Oakland Press Newspaper about it. The event was to be a home concert given by Karen Koski, featuring Julianne and her band, the Rogues. Julianne was nominated this year by the Detroit Music Awards for best songwriter and vocalist for her work. Karen Koski and her father Bob had opened their home for a home concert on their back porch. They do this once a month with various artists performing. Saturday nights performance (June 18th) was a celebration of the release of Julianne's new CD " Vivid ". This is definitely a star on the rise. Very strong material, reminding me of Lee Ann Womack just before her release of her monster hit " I Hope You Dance ". Her delivery reminded me of Jo Dee Messina's intertwining her personal experiences of each song and being able to relate it to the audience. Special note should be given to the Rogues, all being polished professionals and obviously talented. Roscoe the lead guitarist also plays a ' mandoguitar ' which I had never seen before. The boy can play !!!
The venue is like having a family getting together. Bring a dish to pass, there will be food to enjoy, a lawn chair to sit on and be prepared to mingle with the artists and audience after the performances.
Don't let any more of these slide by without experiencing them. It is so worth the drive. The countryside is fabulous and hospitality like you were ' down home ' Further information can be obtained by going to the Concerts@Karen's Place Facebook page,
