A buddy and I wound up here after a day trip to the Hall of Fame. We were looking for a casual lunch spot before we left town, and this fit the bill. We both had burgers, and we were both impressed with the food. Prices were fair, but do take note that they don't do free refills on soda.
The ambiance is pretty cool; they've got some autographed pictures on the walls, including one of Goose Gossage (former Yankee pitcher) that was right over my shoulder as we ate. It's not the fanciest place in the world, but we got what we wanted.
It was Game 2 of the Tigers/Giants 2012 World Series and I'm in Cooperstown.  It's a town where baseball was created so there must be a ton of late night options to watch the big series and get some food?  Wrong.  Many of the potential sports bar options along Main St closed well before even the middle of the game so luckily I stumbled into Cooley's.  They claimed to be open well past midnight so I was in luck.  The bbq and mild buffalo wings along with sweet potato fries did the trick for my meal but I was much more focused on a San Francisco win.  The sticky bar countertops didn't bother  me too much because I didn't have a lot of expectations when I went in.
Review Source:Sports bar right off the main street. It's a good place to go for a drink at night in a quiet town. It's very casual. I had to grab my own menu and seat myself, because the waitress was also the bartender, but she was friendly.
The food was typical bar food, but tasted really good. Go for the boneless wings. They are amazing!!
Ugh.
I wish I had been more persistent in finding another lunch spot.
I wish this place had air conditioning.
I wish the table wasn't so sticky.
I wish our waitress had a personality.
I wish my chicken sandwich was a real grilled chicken breast and not a Tyson chicken patty.
I wish that when I asked for some barbeque they didn't bring me out a little pre-packaged container of sauce (like those given to you at fast food joints).
Not that I make the trip to Cooperstown very often, but I definitely won't be back to this place.
My best friend moved to Cooperstown in early January, and I decided to tag along to help with the trip. Â I definitely didn't expect it to be such a small town - there is only ONE stoplight! Â Most of the businesses are centered around baseball, since the National Baseball Hall of Fame is located here, and it is definitely a summer vacation town. Â So, most of the shops are closed during the winter. Â There are 2 smalls pubs/taverns in town, Cooley's and Shermans, and they happen to be right across the street from one another. Â
Since we had nothing better to do, my friend and I walked less than a block from her apartment to where the bars are. Â Shermans was already closed for the night, so we stepped in Cooley's. Â The front bar area is a small space - there is the large bar and booths on one side, and 1 tall table on the other side. Â It appears as if there is another dining room in the back, but it was closed at the time. Â We ended up at Cooley's 2 nights in a row, and the bartenders were both friendly. Â The drink prices are really reasonable - living in Las Vegas, I am used to paying $9 for a fizzy yellow beer. Â Not at Cooleys - they have a fairly decent East Coast selection of drafts/bottles, and I believe the most expensive beer was $4. Â Heaven! Â LOL. Â We ordered food both nights. Â The 1st night we shared a reuben sandwich with regular fries, and some variation of mozzarella sticks. Â The sandwich was REALLY good, as were the fries. Â The mozzarella sticks were different, but delicious. Â They looked like egg rolls. Â The next night I had chicken wings. Â They were nothing spectacular, but definitely edible. Â We also shared the macaroni and cheese bites, which were awesome! Â Hooray for fried bar food! Â
Due to the season, it was never really crowded while we were in there. Â Each night, there were a couple of the older, crazy town drunks. Â It was pretty hysterical, but then again, I am easily entertained. Â :) Â I can imagine this place getting pretty crowded in the Summer when everyone comes to town for little league camps and the HOF induction weekend.
Okay, this place is scary. We landed here after our loooooong drive from Boston. We were tired, hungry, and definitely needed a drink. Yelp made me feel like this place would be fine and boy was I wrong. It was definitely a locals kind of place. But by locals I mean middle aged to old folks that sit around and watch the game. It wasn't happening. The fried mac and cheese triangles were pretty good, but the chicken fingers were definitely something like Tyson -- purchased at one of those wholesale places and reheated in the oven. Disappointing. There were flies, too. Just in case. Oh, and the ladies room bathroom had the weirdest set up. One of the stalls actually didn't have a door. Neat. Anyway, we'll avoid this place if we ever land in Cooperstown again. Ah!
Review Source:Went here during HOF induction weekend this year. Front bar area was decently crowded which is to be expected during induction weekend, especially considering the weather.
Regulars there were a little irritating, but the food was good and extremely cheap compared to the prices we have become used to in Boston. Being from Western NY, I had to try the buffalo wings... and must say they are quite authentic and delicious.
Beer selection was a little lacking. Overall, a good place to get a cold one on a hot day and some pub food if you are craving that.
I went in for lunch after spending the morning at the HOF. Bartender was helpful and talked to me about the Ommegang Rare Vos - good stuff.
I also enjoy 20 hot wings.
Wings were good, beer was better. All in all this place is more bar than restaurant but is still above a shot and beer joint.
I'd go back.
Nice little pub, good place to grab a beer on a hot day in Cooperstown. It's never been too busy when we've stopped in and we've always found a place to sit. The wait staff and bartender have always been pleasant. Service can get slow when the place gets a bit crowded.
The beer selection is decent and they stock a good selection of local brews. But here's why I'm giving it 4 stars: the wings. I'm just as surprised as you, believe me. But good wings show up in some pretty strange places around these parts.
These wings on a scale of 1-10 rank about a 7.5 in my book. The BBQ sauce wasn't too thick or sticky, and coated the wings, but didn't overpower the flavor. The wings weren't over or undersized, and were meaty and not fatty or sinewy. The crisp outside gave way to a surprisingly moist and tender inside. I enjoyed eating them and washing them down with a Brooklyn Lager.
Awesome. Â Home town pub style meets fresh food. Everything is home made including the chili, soups and sauces. Burgers and hotdogs are great so are the fresh cut fries and sweet potato fries. Was 6 of us and only ran 120 with tip including beer and wine. Â Note, no deserts due to owners over indulgences :)
Review Source:Not too much special going on at this place but they definitely have all the bases covered. Plenty of beer on tap, enough TVs to get a good view of the game and a good menu of chili and grease smothered bar food that blends perfectly with the Ommegang in your tummy. These guys know what they are and don't try to pretend otherwise. Overall, if you're looking for a couple beers and some decent grub, you can't go wrong with Cooley's.
Review Source:Home of the legendary deep fried macaroni and cheese. How they shape all that gooey goodness into their perfect little battered triangles is a mystery, but if you're willing to withstand some shitty service, it's worth an investigation.
C: *Trying to catch waitress* Excuse me?
J: Don't worry, the next time she walks by she'll be pregnant.... with her third child.
C: Damnit. Maybe she'll see me if I raise my hand....
Five minutes pass.
C: *hand still raised* Excuse me?
Waitess: Yes, ma'am?
C: Yes! Can I place an order please?
Waitress: Sure, let me just get this plate coming out, i'll be right back.
Either way, great place to hang out over drinks and grease.
Busy Weds evening in the beginning of July. Â Lots of kids in the backroom. Â Busy front bar. Â We were able to get our drink order fairly quickly and find a table albeit uncleared and dirty table. Â Pub grub which smelled great. Â The wings looked good. Â Â A typical bar...... Â A hangout for tourists and regulars alike
Review Source:Nice little hangout in Cooperstown. They have a giant TV in the back room, but the front bar area needs an upgrade. But the beer pours well, and there's a nice cast of characters inside. I got a local microbrew on tap, a pale ale. They do have very good wings, but otherwise pretty sure it's standard pub food. But i could be wrong, haven't tried anything but the wings. If you are in town visiting, it's a nice stop in for a bite and a brew. On a side note, i also dropped by the Otsawega Hotel....nice, upscale charming 'old money' hotel right on the lake....great view from the patio bar. Bring a gal, she'll be verrrry happy, you'll most definitely get lucky.
