Two word: CURRY FRIES. Cue glorious choral music and fireworks.

It's perfectly cooked fries smothered with fragrant curry sauce. Mmmm mmm mmm.

The rest of the food, while good, is pretty unmemorable. They try to be inventive and sometime it works (see: freak out about curry fries above) and sometimes I wish they had kept things traditional because the inventiveness doesn't add much to the dish.

They also always have an awesome beer selection. It's certainly worth checking out. Great service, interesting food and good beer. This place is very quintessentially Bellingham.

Love the vibe. Awesome food, great drink selection. I really enjoy this place, but it's pretty pricey. Especially for college kids.

They tend to be kind of busy, more so when the weather is warmer. So service is usually pretty slow. But their staff is pretty kind.

I appreciate how they switch their menu a lot too, depending on the seasons. I go maybe about two or three times a year and get something different each time. It's a good place for a classier dinner date or to take your parents.

The mac and cheese was good, although I probably should have added the bacon just for that salty chewy kick.  The fried brussels sprouts were nice, with lots of separated leafy pieces to add extra crunch to each mouthful.  I've had them prepared with a vinaigrette before as opposed to some balsamic reduction along side as Copper Hog serves them, and I like them tossed with the vinaigrette better.  Still crunchy but lots of flavor all around.

The Copper Hog is said to be a legendary place in Bellingham.  Don't let that tarnish your opinion of Bellingham.

    Food & Drink:

The menu has a gastropub feel, and is known for having some unusual items:  Celery root soup, tofu butternut squash w/ pumpkin seed, pesto scrambles, pork belly tacos, tuna bruschetta....For me it's a little too strange, and even if you're one who likes to experiment (look, I'll visit a place like Black Bottle or Brave Horse Tavern for experimental stuff) I question the actual execution on the dishes.  For example, the ingredients notwithstanding, I found the scrambles to be overcooked and the bacon to be soggy.  I will give some credit on the salads, which are pretty solid.  That said, I would personally use the Copper Hog as a pub and stick with traditional pub items such as wings, brats, and fish and chips.  The macaroni and cheese is a good choice as well.  No issue with the pricing/value overall on the menu with the exception of the $17 cheeseburger.

The beer selection here is very good.  You've got 18 rotating taps, and there's a wide variety of types--everything from IPAs to Porters and in between.  You've got a good selection of breweries (Green Flash, Deschutes, Iron Horse, Sierra Nevada et) represented as well.  The "house beer" is Flyer's Copper Hog Red (I did not try it).   Very well done.

    Ambiance & Service:

Located on North State Street, and well within walking distance of most major Bellingham spots, the location is good.  You can easily walk to the Interurban Trail, Boundary Bay Brewery, the Farmer's Market, or Henderson Bookstore.  This place is known as a big time hang-out to watch Sounders or Seahawks games.

You'll note that The Copper Hog gets a lot of natural light from the windows off of the State Street side.  There are two main sections, one is the dining area (facing the street) and the other is the bar side.  There's an outdoor spot as well during warm summer days.  On the dining side sound certainly carries quite a bit.  All and all though, it's a cozy hang-out.

The service is moderate.  You've got a couple folks that have worked there for a long period of time who appear to enjoy the job and know the menu/drinks.  You also have a lot of staff that are unacquainted with the menu/drinks in detail and offer very little insight.  This is a problem at a gastropub that offers odd food selections.

    Final Thoughts:

Great place to grab a beer and catch a Sounders game and to get a "feel" of Bellingham.  If you're into tofu and organic experimental type stuff (which to be fair, is relevant to this area) this might be your spot.  For those who are more traditional--not a great place for breakfast or lunch.  Further, because of the noise and ambiance, I would not use it as a date location.

If you're on the fence about going to Copper Hog, you're a fool. Don't think, just do. The rotating beer selection always has many great choices! Ask for a taste of something if you're not sure if you'll like it! Ask for crayons. And ask for Robert to be your server. At Copper Hog, disappointment is not an option.

We've been to the Copper Hog for breakfast a few times.  We really enjoy the food and the atmosphere.  My only issue is that they never seem to have enough staff.  If you are really hungry, then you might want to go somewhere with better service.

This is my first ever Yelp review! The one thing that keeps us coming back are the pork wings! They are actually pork shanks and are smothered in this sweet spicy glaze. So delish. I've also had the ahi poke with wonton chips which are really tasty and the fish and chips. I hear the mac and cheese is also amazing. And if you like beer, they've got a great selection. My only gripe is that the place is always freezing! Like make sure you've got a puffer jacket and beanie on! And service tends to be slow. But if they keep making those hog wings, we'll keep coming back.

Solid beer selection and food.  Worth a visit.  For some reason, we do not end up here much and it is not the first place that comes to mind when it is time to head out for something to eat.  Pretty weak wine selection, especially white.

Wide and well-thought-out rotating beer selection, inspired seasonal menu, well curated ambiance and fun staff. They also have some creative/fun events. However, if you're bit of a square don't bother with this place - Bob's Burgers and Brew might be a better fit.

Had the Braised Rabbit, incredible!  Started with an awesome squash soup with mushrooms, also fabulous, I should have stopped eating sooner... 4 stars based on ambiance, the bar was too full, restaurant not well separated if you wanted a quieter table.  Really great food though.

The Copper Hog is a nice atmosphere. I wish I could say the same about the employee's. Other than Rachel, El Número UNO. The rest of the crew not so much... Their drinks are weak, their BBQ is over priced for the quality. I walked in on an a Monday night, and they were playing recorded soccer in lieu of MNF... I guess it fits the bham demographic when men are not men...

Here's how I know I love a place... I can meet the boss there for a beer prior to dinner at D'Annas and after dinner... And I've ditched the biz folks... I can strike up a conversation with a handlebar mustache attached to a man that was CLEARLY born in the wrong century!  I really need to look up that photo on FB.

Good beer selection, a little grungy and hip?  I don't know, it's Bellingham and I haven't really dialed it in yet.

Last time I was at the Copper Hog, I got into a good debate over Washington State's 1183 - Privatizing liquor sales with one of the bartenders.  Though I have split feelings about this, as I feel intelligent people should, I made my opinion known.  Turns out, we were debating from the "same side"... So that was fun ha ha.  He was a good sport even before I realized it!

Bellingham is under rated, by the way.

Stumbled upon this gem on our way to another place.  Decided to give it a whirl instead.  I enjoyed the drinks and appetizers...or small plates as I think they are called there :)  Either way....VERY good.  My dad has been trying to figure out exactly when the next time he will be able to get back there to get MORE of the wings!!!  My my mother bestowed the ultimate compliment on the Calamari...."I didn't need Ketchup."  She was right .I was having a moment with the Truffle saluted fries.  WOW!!  The experience wouldn't have been half as great if not for the services of Lil Guy.  There are some people who are just so good at what they do and he is better than that!  We will be back.  Thats your warning to take some time off in case you hated us ;)

I don't know why I hadn't made it to The Copper Hog before...I visited before, when it was The State Street Depot.  And The Greyhound Station before that.  But I digress.

I had a Dealsaver, for brunch, on the weekend.

Finally I had a weekend to include The Copper Hog in my schedule.

We came here on a Sunday, mid-morning, and didn't have to wait.  There were more than a couple of large tables around us, but it didn't seem to affect the service.

Coffee came quickly and we were surprised by fresh and still warm sugar coated donut holes.  What a nice surprise.  They were good and tasty.

Service was prompt and pleasant.  The fellow was nice but a bit odd, but he did his job well and didn't have a curled moustache...like the host did.

The food was good, well-prepared, and tasty.  The potatoes that came with each breakfast entree were particularly good.  Warm and done on the inside, a nice crisp on the outside.  Better than many other places in town.  The eggs had some green onion in them (a little but not too much, by any means).  The eggs bene were good, but not perfect (a soggy English muffin will do that).

The atmosphere was cool.  A nice change in town. A large space, welcoming to families (evidenced by the number of families with children present) and offering more than just a warm bite.  Water bottles in repurposed Gin bottles were cool.  Darts available to antsy kids were also a plus.

In all we had a good meal and a good time.  Thumbs up Cooper Hog for making breakfast fun!

I've avoided this place because it's basically a hangout for college kids, or the above 21 crowd who still hang out with college kids. I finally went there because a friend loves it and wanted to take us there.

I got the fish and chips. It was basically an entire fish deep fried. It was one gigantic piece of fish so it wasn't very crispy, and it was always way too hot, and it was hard to dip into the sauce they have with it. The fries claim that they have "truffle salt" on them, but it's just a selling point because I couldn't taste it at all. Also, pea puree... with fish and chips. Why?

The waiter was lingering around like he wanted us to leave, even though my friends were still drinking their cocktails. He kept looking over at us and kind of rolling his eyes at us and sighing out of irritation. There wasn't a line of people waiting to be seated so I don't know what his damn problem was.

The worst part of this place was the feather that was still on my friends chicken wings. That is DISGUSTING. I was nauseated by it. It's really easy to notice, so how did they miss it?

Overall it was very "meh." I wouldn't eat here again and I don't really get why it's so popular.

We came to the Copper Hog as a final brunch destination to avoid waiting 45+min at the more popular brunch spots, but it was a perfect choice. Loved the ambiance. And while there were other people around, it wasn't super noisy (major plus, because no one wants to have to yell over breakfast).

The breakfast potatoes/hash were my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE. I don't know what they do to it. But it's like eating candy! Crispy coating with a hint of sweet (okay, not candy sweet) that covers a creamy morsel of pure potato. Be sure that whatever you order includes some of this. Because you will want it.

We got the Shepherd's Breakfast (you might want to ask for a spoon), the Monte Cristo, and The Hog. If you're looking for an indulgent twist on an old favorite, get The Hog (eggs benedict on a fresh donut, instead of english muffin). Every bite was fantastic and eaten with utter relish.

Overall, the food was delicious and prices were very reasonable. I'd definitely love to come again.

Went to lunch with my baby for her 1st birthday.  I had a huge royale burger and fries and she had mac n cheese.  Both were really yummy and more than we could eat, Daddy got a huge portion of mac leftovers.
The restaurant is pretty loud so a noisy, talking baby isn't noticed.  The staff are all very friendly and they have Guinness on tap, slurp!

This is my favorite hang out in all of Bellingham! When I move away, this is one of those things that will compel me to come back and visit.

The drinks: Their tap list is always stellar. If you don't know which one is the best choice, the staff is always helpful and recommends a brew based on what you like. Their mixed drinks are creative and delicious as well. The boyfriend really enjoyed a martini called The Hog which included bacon bourbon and maple bitters. Their beers, wines and mixed drinks do change so I like to come in sometimes just because there are new menu items and drinks to try!

The food: Oh, the food. The food menu also changes often. I have had some simply fantastic meals here which will never be prepared again. Though it's a little pricy, the food is substantial and filling. If you aren't feeling terribly hungry, a small plate works as an appetizer or small meal. The pub fare is always tasty. Many times, I just can't think of what it is I want to eat and the servers help point  me in the right direction.

The setting: The Copper Hog used to be a train or bus station and you can still see some luggage doors and little hints of what it used to be. It' all very nicely polished dark wood that doesn't feel too sleek or overly shiny. It looks like a really nice lived-in space (not to say that it looks used and abused) and is always comfortable and warm feeling.

The service: I have been a longtime customer here and have always received fantastic service. Robert and Gwen are pros at what they do. I have been told that the secret for their waiters is to be fast, friendly and sexy. They certainly live up to it! The only hiccup in the service is that this is not the best place for large groups and checks split 10 different ways. I think that is likely because this is just not set up for that kind of event. If you do have a large group here, just know that the food will take a bit of extra time to prepare and maybe have some cash to ease the check-splitting.

Go to The Copper Hog, get some curry fries and a couple of pints and see for yourself. This is easily my favorite restaurant in this town.

I think the copper hog is a cut above the rest, they are always really nice, have good food, great atmosphere and are reasonable.

recently I tried them out for breakfast and was pleasantly surprised! The staff is always very friendly and though they seem shorthanded, they do a great job.

Thanks for being open late and serving a wide array of delicious pub fare!

I agree with another review I read - I like this place, but I want to love this place. I just can't quite get there.

Granted, I've only been here a couple times. The beer selection is muy fantatistico, and I really dig the vibe in there. The mac and cheese sounded perfect on paper (three of my favorite things - cheese, green onions, and bacon? How could you go wrong?) The noodles were great, but it was so bland it wasn't worth eating.

Next time I'm in B-Ham I'll give this place another shot though as I think it deserves it.

I like this place but I want to love it. The staff has always been very helpful so that is a major plus. And when in doubt, it's always a pretty safe bet.

My only complaint is the food is inconsistent. Sometimes I am convinced it is sooooo good. Other times, I am wondering what I am doing there.

I will continue to give it a try. There's enough pros that keep me coming back.

    new lunch menu
    Shepard's pie was pretty good!

the only thing was that lunch service was kind of eh

the bartender was doubling as a server in the dining room and running the bar
    with one other girl serving
    didn't see a busser/host
a little too short staffed in my opinion

I love this place! It has an interesting and eclectic menu and there are a number of gluten free items for those of us with limitations.  The interior is beautiful and comfortable.  It's a great date spot or gathering place for friends.

My sweetheart and I can make a meal of their Happy Hour menu items.  We'll each get 2 fish or pork tacos - both are generously sized (and the best I have had in Bellingham) with a couple other sides.  That and a couple of expertly made cocktails from the bar or beers (they have a fine selection) and we're in good shape... ready to roll on down to 21st Century Bowl to play a few games.

Well priced, great service and fantastic food.

Their food is amazing.  I've had their curry fries, the kahlua pork, bangers and mash, and their burger is impressive.  The kahlua pork, while not authentic Hawaiian, is still a great take on one of my favorite comfort foods.  Their menu is unique with Asian, Hawaiian, and British inspired dishes.

Breakfast, dinner or late night - you won't go wrong.  Sadly never had their lunch, I'm sure it's just as great.

Background: We had a large group arriving, called several hours in advance to let them know and make reservations. (Group size 10-13 people)

    Pros:
1 Our table was ready when we arrived, no wait time.
2 Staff was friendly and sociable.

    Cons:
1 Food was burned. I have had problems with this a few times here, not BADLY burned but enough that you could certainly taste it.
2 The didn't bring us drinks we ordered. We had to re-order drinks several times.
3 No check split: We let them know BEFORE we ordered anything how we would like orders split. At the end of our night (after quite a few drinks) we received one bill and were told that they wouldn't split the check for us because it was easier for us to do it. I found this very unprofessional and frustrating and ultimately will be the straw that broke the camels back.

    Overall:
Neither I or the people in my group will be returning to the Copper Hog for group gatherings.

So listen; I was told to come here by a gal I met here in Chelan, but when I looked on Yelp at the reviews I was worried. We almost went elsewhere, but because the Kentucky Derby was on we needed a sports bar. We are new to Washington and had never been to Bellingham so we didn't quite know what to expect.

    Helloooo- this place was awesome!

We came in on a Saturday around 2pm and it was slow. As an ex-server I happen to know that when it's slow you get the crappiest service. Not here!

We sat at the bar and the bartender was friendly and fast and very funny. The gal next to me was a server and eating here on her day off. She was great and helpful as well. (The menu was going to change in a few days and she found a new menu and shared it with us.)

The hostess was fun (she had a hangover- loves it!) and was helpful as a bar-back on occasion.

We camped out for a few hours to watch the Kentucky Derby and had the best service!

The food was great. Really. Well, mine was good; I had the fancy Big-Mac, which was  a little too fancy, but still I enjoyed it. Might have the pulled pork next time and the pork-friend steak for breakfast looked like it could pack on the pounds...oh I will dream about the guy who ate the whole thing!
The Husband had the fish and chips and scarfed it down. I had bread pudding for dessert and still wish I had brought it home- to...die...for. (No, those are not raisins- it's chocolate...)

So I guess we didn't  come at a really busy hour but I'm glad we came. Good food and good service. Now I know to take Yelp reviews with a grain of salt. (my review is pre-salted.)
    I can't wait to return!

The food here is always delicious. Try the chicken wings. Try the curry fries. Try everything. The drinks I've gotten here are always super tasty, and they have a pretty nice beer selection too.

The only problem here is the hit-or-miss service. Some of the people who work there are good servers--most of the staff have been great--but one of the bartenders there was a totally ass to me. Who knows.

What I like about the Hog is that it's a good place for any kind of night. Want to dress up? You won't look too out of place. Want to watch soccer? TV's on. Want to get drunk and be ridiculous? Also fine. Want to relax at a booth and have a conversation? That too. One time my friend and I went there and knitted for like 3 hours. Anything goes.

Food is delicious when it's done right, but sometimes it's not, and sometimes the service sucks too.

That said, it has a great happy hour and the food is mostly great (occasionally a little cold, and this morning one of my poached eggs was hard). The service this morning was awful, but it's often pretty legit.

I've been here a few times for appetizers and drinks and each time the service has been poor. There are tons of waiters and everyone can have a bad night so perhaps that was the situation all the times I've gone in with friends. The coleslaw was very good.

Only 1 thing really irritated me. It's a sports bar with about 18 televisions scattered around. During the final of the Australian Open I requested to have that put on 1 of the TV's and was told, "Sorry, we only show REAL sports here".  Lame. I won't be going back.

I will never go back this joke of an establishment. DON'T waste your time here. Trust me.

My friend and I went on a slow Saturday night. They were overstaffed and under-customered. You'd think because of this you would get quite exceptional service but alas, it was some of the worst I have ever experienced.

First, I stood at their bar where I opted to order myself a drink and appetizer (versus have them seat you and wait on you) but ended up waiting  for what seemed like an eternity. Nobody paid any attention to me.... I mean, the idiot bartender never even looked my way. And I'm cute and am not carrying hepatitis or anything so what's the deal? He was apparently busy drying beer glasses with a towel. Puh-lease.

Finally after being ignored at the bar, my friend and I ASKED to be seated  instead (as it was never offered). So what did they do? They stuck us in the corner and ignored our existence until I had to  summon to one of the hostesses that yes, we are tangible beings and we would like to place our freaking order and thanks. Lots of eye rolls and heavy sighs later, we finally got our warm glasses of tap water and soggy, flavorless calamari. We wanted a night cap but after our meal we opted not to order anything further and left sans tip.

And the waitor was a complete douche. Condescending, rude, past by us many times without filling our waters. Made snide little remarks after I had commented that for a large staff, we sure seemed to be getting the short end of the service stick.

I'm wondering if The Copper Hog has changed owners recently? It never used to be this bad.

My friends took me there today for a late brunch. I was shock on small the breakfast menu was. But I had a hard time finding what I would like to try.  I ended going for the Monte Cristo, it was full of flavor and the potatoes with honey glaze was great. The only thing was I think they could have cut down on the Serrano Ham, it was piled on and I felt a little to much. With it being a strong flavor ham, I think they could have cut it 1 one slice.

The doughnuts  gems before the food came out were great. The Mimosa for me was really good. My one friend had The Hog, it sound really strange, doughnuts, 3 slices of bacon, 2 fried eggs and hollandaise sauce. He was scared to order it but the bar tender said it was great. He said it was great and would order it again.

The service was slow, but it was made up for it in the food. But the staff was very friendly and for me that is what counts.

I was a little nervous about this place after I read some of the reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in. They have a good beer selection, the atmosphere was very chill/cool and the menu was actually fairly interesting. My date had the ahi BLT (an odd combo in my book, but he liked it) and I have the falafel burger (which was pretty good!). Both came with the standard side of fries, so for $9 a plate I was pretty happy with the meal.
Service was great! Our waiter was patient as we continually blew off the dinner menu for more rounds of beer. Once we finally did order food he was super helpful in answering the questions we had about the menu.
Bonus, once the season starts up again you'll be able to watch Sounders FC games here. Anyone that puts the Sounders game on is ok in my book!

Very decent gastropub menu, including traditional dishes like bangers & mash and fish & chips, which complements the beer (so I've been told).   Between the ahi BLT, pulled pork sandwich and beef stew, our group had no complaints about the food or service.   I'd go back again, as there were a number of interesting dishes that I need to try.

Oh, and they've gotten the fries right now - they're way crispier.

Let's start by saying that my Boss LOVES this place. And for the life of me I can not figure out why. I have been there several times, mostly for work related functions.

So here is a rundown of what I have had. Curry Chips: brown curry over steak fries, pretty good if you like Indian style curry, which I do.  The Poke appetizer was over seasoned with sesame and soy. The fish and chips are a disappointment.  Couple of big piece of fish with two or three HUGE wedges of potato. The potato is just overwhelming. The falafel burger was over fried, under-seasoned and hard to eat. Just kept crumbling. The shoestring fries that came with it were well seasoned but slightly under cooked. The bison sliders are ok, but with only 3 of them, not worth the 9 bucks. The roasted beet and blue cheese salad was good, well balanced and had a good ratio of beets to greens.

The service has been hit or miss. One waiter was great. He was friendly and fast. Handled our large crowd well. One waitress was, well, not great. She seemed put off by our large group, was not attentive and she brought our bill to us before we were finished ordering drinks and told us we had to figure it out ourselves.

They do have a good selection of beer, but it is over priced.

All in all,  it isn't the worst place in town, but I wish my boss would find someplace better to go to.

Went in at the insistence of a friend, and hit the bar (on a very quite night, Im guessing they have alot of those), the bartender could be described in no other term than DICK.

This guy was a piece of work, and eventually the lady I was with told him to F off, and at that point he FINALLY realized he was way over the line, and started backpedaling, WAY too late for that.

FYI....A year later they still don't have decaf...whats up with that?

This is another place that is destined to close, frankly I am surprised they have lasted this long!

This one is on my never go back list!

I was pretty amazed by this place.  They had a simple menu but still had some good choices.  I went with a small group and we were able to have some fun with our server and one of the chefs.  They were very kind and offered their suggestions on what to order and what other diners liked.

We ended up sharing some Poke, Curry Chips, Sliders, and Fish n' Chips.  We also ordered some delicious drinks and beer, all of which were suggested by the server and made to our liking as well!

It's just a nice place to have some food, have an awesome conversation, and have a drink (or 5).  The food that we ordered was great and the battered fish could have been better.  But overall, the experience was nice and the service was exceptional!
