While in Memphis on a business trip last week, we stayed at The Peabody, which is where this bar is located. It's clear that the bar caters to visitors/business folks staying at the hotel, and so, it doesn't appear to try to appeal to locals.
It's upscale (the whole hotel is), but I went for a drink there in shorts and a T-shirt and no one looked twice at me, even though most were dressed business casual to formal. I didn't feel out of place one bit. So that's a plus.
Drinks were good and service fairly prompt. No complaints there, and in fact, I was served probably the BEST Lemon Drop Martini I have ever had. It was so smooth and sweet, I was frankly, taken by surprise.
What WAS funny (in a slightly frustrating way) is that visitors (at least us) get coupons for One Free Drink at the bar when checking in to the hotel. Long story short, the fine print is vague, and it really didn't apply to any drinks our group ordered with the exception of one person's less-than-good glass of house wine. Yuck. I suppose a well drink would have been the way to go with the coupon, but whatever. It seems to me that making it easier on your customers by making the free drink applicable to more of a selection would keep people positive and in the bar longer spending money. Instead, we just all joked about our useless free drink coupons and left after only one round. I'd imagine this scenario isn't uncommon here.
Nor do they likely care, since most customers won't ever come back anyway.
Anyway, if you're nearby, try the Lemon Drop Martini here. Hopefully, it'll be as tasty for you as it was me. I WAS very impressed by that!
