love this place.  staff is great.  owners are on site and active parts of the crew.  been eating and drinking a cold one here for years.  so, because of my generally great experiences here I might be biased.  The grub is really good.  Small menu at dinner available at the bar.  Coleslaw is excellent.  Hawaiian influence available at breakfast & lunch.  I wanted to show the bar fish n  chips but it was gone before I could snap a pic!
Review Source:This review is actually for The Galley cafe located in the same building and connected to the Yacht club.
Food here is simple and delicious menu is American standard diner fare with some fun local additions.
Prices are reasonable and service is usually quite good.
Weekends can get a little busy especially on Sundays with the SSU hangover crowd.
I've driven by this place so many times and finally went there for brunch today (Sunday) with my hubby. Â I took a yelper's advice and got the fajita salad...around $10 and SUPER YUMMY! My hubby got the BLTA with fries and really enjoyed it too! There were SO MANY options on the menu...I'm really looking forward to going back!
Our waitress Mary was really nice and VERY efficient! Our service was quick and they checked in with us at least 4 times!
The Yacht Club isn't anything fancy, but HONESTLY-Who wants FANCY all the time?
It was tasty, clean, super reasonable, lots to choose from and a FULL BAR...what else do you really need? :)
5 stars for all the memories I've had with my friends throughout our college years!
The bar scene/lounge/club life is LACKING. But for what the Yacht club is...it's been the usual place to go because it's close and we get to see everyone from school there too! (that's both good and bad mind you) Music is a hit or miss FOSHO! but it's all good when you're sloshed out of your mind
Go find out Johnny and he'll be your bartender. :)
I love how elitest these reviews are. Let's be honest people, you're in Cotati, you're not in the city, hell you're not even in Santa Rosa or in Petaluma. You're not going to get an amazing dance floor, rich good looking clientele, or even tourists (aside from friends of locals.)
Honestly if you're coming here, you are probably taking a tour of the "crawl" and it's one of the stops along the way, I would recommend it being the last one, because it's far away and it usually has the most people. It has a DJ on Thursdays and you can get sardine-packed when SSU is in session.
You're getting what you paid for, or didn't pay for because a cover charge here would be pointless, the bartenders love their regulars (and while this reviewer will not admit to it, they do remember your drink orders) and the bouncers are always ready to put a stop to some hooligans trying to prove their machismo. All in all, you can't come here expecting some sort of amazing club. You can however come here and expect a lot of students, and that's how the crawl likes it.
Oh Yacht Club.
Where would a yacht club be more appropriately located than in the middle of suburbia cotati???
I've been going here since it was called Mom's Boarding House. At that point I wasn't old enough to know about the Cotati Crawl, so all it was to me was a pretty cool place to go for breakfast of the weekends. Now it's still a pretty cool place to go for breakfast on the weekends, AND it's a hopping place to go at night if you want to catch diseases from sweaty drunk college students. Yay.
The owners are super friendly in the daytime, and super picky at night. The bouncers do let personal friends in for free, which was good for me, but bad for the other tens of people stuck outside in line. It's totally a dive at night, but most of the people end up here dancing, so I guess if that's what you're into....If you go however, make 100% positive you have a sober driver or a cab because the cops literally just sit outside and watch everyone.
My review is mostly about breakfast/brunch though, and for that I would say yeah, good stuff. I usually order the chicken fajita salad which comes with this kick butt chipotle dressing that I can't get enough of. Everyone else usually gets omlettes or they sometimes have stuffed french toast which I've heard from my dining companions is out of this world.
It is definitely one of the busiest bars on a Thursday night for the cotati crawl. It gets really packed and is the best bar to go to for dancing. However there are a lot of people who are coming from vallejo to here and therefore making it full of fights. The cops are always outside and this bar definitely has the most issues. If you want to go to just dance be prepared for sweaty guys coming up behind you, and don't try talking to the "ghettos" because they are likely to pull your hair, take out a knife, or hit you in the head with a beer bottle (all true stories from nights I've been there). Though they do walk around with a platter full of free peanut butter and jelly sandwiches at the end of the night.
Review Source:I've actually only eaten there in the morning for breakfast. I love getting the Seabiscuit. I'm not normally a biscuit and gravy man but I decided to try it on a whim and ended up loving it. The sausage added to the combo makes it an awesome meal. The hash browns always seem to be just right and apple and orange juice are always tasty.
Review Source:I went here as part of the Cotati Crawl with my sister and friend a couple months ago. It's pricier than Spancky's (drinks about $2 more) and I couldn't believe how packed it was. We only waited in line for like 10 minutes and when we got to the front the bouncer questioned my ID. It happens to me all the time but it's kinda annoying when most of the girls there looked way younger than me!
I couldn't get over how young everyone looked there!! My sister is 3 years older than me and I definitely felt like we were the oldest people there. I actually asked her if it was 18+ considering how young some girls looked. I didn't realize that Thursday was college night - maybe that's why I felt so old!
Overall it was a decent bar - good music but super packed. I probably won't be returning on a Thursday night though.
**This review is for the restaurant portion of the Yacht Club ONLY**
So as a restaurant, the Yacht Club is great! Diner food at it best, excellent breakfast spot. Service is always efficient & friendly. Big portions, cooked the way you ordered them. They just started serving dinner a few nights a week too! Haven't tried dinner yet, but will soon.
I got a bit of a love/hate relationship going on with this place. I love the owners and staff as well as the food. I hate when it's packed like sardines and all they play is some top 40 billboard trash. Maybe I'm getting old, but packing so many people into a bar that you can't move across without spilling your drink on 3 people and starting at least one fight just doesn't do it for me. I'm not hating on the owners, who wouldn't like their bar to be this profitable on Thursday night? I'm just saying that it doesn't do much for me. Now, on to the good stuff. The family that runs this place is awesome as well as most of the people who work here. The restaurant that they have attached makes some killer food. I've had the mahi mahi eggs benedict, fish tacos and the naughty yachty burger. The benedict and the tacos were pretty good. The naughty yachty you may sell your soul for. I think it holds a special place in my heart for being the first burger that I've had that has cream cheese as it's main calcium source. Why don't more places do this? It's freaking delicious! So, in conclusion, if I was rating the place just on Thursday nights, I would likely give it two stars. The fact that the line takes 30 or more minutes to get through is a testament to the fact that Rohnert Park and Cotati are both kind of shot in terms of night life. The people, food, and slow times are what earns this place a special little spot in my heart.
Review Source:So perhaps my perception was a bit off when I came here last week, but in spite of the lack of patrons and the fact that our group was buying a lot of drinks, I felt as though our presence wasn't necessarily appreciated. The bartender was friendly, but just enough, and honestly I felt more like a burden than a customer.
They no longer have karaoke, which is a bummer. And there's a $10 minimum for credit cards. That said, the beer selection is great, the ambiance is an awesome kind of kitschy, and there is a pool table. But hell, it IS a bar in a tucked-away strip mall, so that tells you a lot right there.
Are you a student at SSU?? Â - Its a fact of life that you'll find yourself in this club at least once in your college life...If you're over 30, theres a huge chance that Thursday night will be a little strange for you...
If you want to get in - arrive before 10:30 - Theres never a cover, but always a massive line at the door! If you arrive around 11:30, you'll probably be waiting at least 30 min! It can be a bad time!
Its definitely the only dance club in town which makes it a little repetitive at times...If you go down to Petaluma or up to Santa Rosa, you can break free from only having one spot to "get your dance on"...
So, I have not been inclined to write reviews quite yet on yelp, but I feel the need to share my thoughts on this little gem of Cotati, CA.
I have recently relocated back to Sonoma County from San Diego, and was hesitant to see what the bar scene had to offer after the wonders that consumed my weekends down there. Â I have been here before, but the past two times I have gone have surpassed what I thought it beheld. Â I have found the best time to roll up to this dive is not until at least 11:30 pm. Â It may be in your best interest to crawl around the town getting your drink on before heading here. Â Though there's usually a line, it goes quickly enough (especially if you're a few drinks in!). Â The one problem I always have at this bar is that it is usually so packed, it takes forever to get drinks... but if you go to the left side of the bar and kindly ask the sitters (don't get me started on the fact that they have stools at a bar as busy at this!) you can usually get a good drink in a fairly quick time. Â The bartenders are fairly friendly once you actually get their attention, and the drinks are fairly good.
Now for the reasons why I love this bar: Â
1. dancing WITHOUT a cover! Â Most bars/"clubs" here charge a cover when there is NO ONE in the stupid place, and over charge drinks. Â The music is usually mix of whatever popular songs are on the radio, but there's usally a fair amount of drunk people to have fun with. Â There's a good mix of people, although from experience, the boys get a little feisty over the women they want to dance with.
2. Â Apparently they pass out FREE peanut butter and jelly sandwiches before last call to help sober up all the drunkies. Â It was pretty much the highlight of my night. Â You will NOT find this anywhere, and it was hilarious. Â The platter piled high with delicious sandwiches and a barback hocking them like peanuts at a baseball game.... it was like an oasis in an alcohol induced haze! Â And these weren't your crappy cheap bread, no peanut butter, and gross grape jelly sandwiches. Â I'm talking whole grain, lots of peanut butter, and rasberry jam sandwiches! Â It was the best ever!
So overall, it's not the best bar I've ever been to, but it had a lot going for it. Â I would give it 4 for the dancing, sandwiches, and cheap drinks. Â Minus one star for the lines at the bar, overkill of cops and security guards, and feisty boys!
One must be careful here. Â Although the drinks are priced alright. Â There are many faults the business has also. Â One the security is a little over pushy and seems to thrive on picking on males who cannot stand up for themselves. Â Two they seem to get rid of there good bartenders and bring in one's who are used to ripping off customer's too drunk to put up an argument. Â Be very careful of the old blonde one, Jamie Kurtz, she was terminated from a neighboring bar called spanky's for overcharging and pocketing the extra cash. Â If your going to get drinks get them from the the only male one and the dark haired lady. Â Also do not be afraid to call Jamie out for overcharging you weather it be cash or credit. Â They use an older green ticket system so until they update to micros, pos or aloha computer restaurant systems she can still attempt to scam you. Â If you do have issues do not be afraid to contact ABC, BBB and your bank if funds are overcharged. Â Your better off hitting up trade winds with live music, 8 ball or spanky's and ask for Julie she's a sweetheart who's been in the circuit down there for years.
Review Source:This bar is a total SSU dive hang-out. There aren't that many bars in Rohnert Park (maybe 5 or 6), so the bars don't really have to try that hard of do anything extra special to get college kids to come here. I can't say much for the quality of this place...but damn, I have some great memories here. Â 5 stars for that!
Review Source:There is a reason this place is friggin packed everynight! Most of these reviewers belong at upper fourth where you have to pay to get in and have not so many people there because the place sucks. The drinks are good here, lydia is awesome and most of the people are just college goers from SSU mixed with some locals. If you want a beautiful peoples club, then head down to LA with a wad of cash, cause that isn't what this place is about.
Review Source:Part of the cotati crawl, decent place for sorority chicks and fratboy tools. The drinks are good and make sure you ask for Lydia! The DJ is typically ok. It will definitely get crowded which makes it hard to get drinks at times but its a part of the crawl so you have to go there, you just have to.
Review Source:Well, I can't honestly answer on weekend nights, dj nights, etc., but I have been going there for a couple years for Karaoke night and that's always been fun. Â Fiznik Rick used to do Wednesday nights and he was always fun and entertaining. Â Now, (yes I'm a tad bias) my company does Tuesday nights. Â We have a lot of fun. Â We try to transform the room a bit to make it more comfortable for groups and prettier in pics. Â We add to our book as often as we can and the sound is incredible in that building.
Plus, there is multiple pool tables, an outdoor drinking/smoking area, fresh popped popcorn, and $2 Coronas and Pacificos. Â It's alway an inexpensive way to go hang with your friends and provide your own entertainment. Â I hope everyone will at least give it a try. Â I think it's actually a much nicer establishment than many others on the Cotati crawl and that comes from hanging out there previous to working there.
Plus, the mix of people on karaoke night is always a good fun loving crowd. Â Never seen a fight there, nor have I seen any puking in the corner. Â And should you have any disagreement with any uncomfortable foes in the room, the security staff is all very helpful.
Maybe it's because I was doing the Cotati Crawl with one of my friends who goes to Sonoma State-- maybe I was too obliterated to provide an accurate review of this joint-- or maybe it was because we did the Crawl on the Sunday of a 3-day weekend-- but I had a great time! Â It was among our first few stops as well as our very last, I had no trouble getting drinks promptly, and my friends and I put money in the electronic jukebox and danced the night away. Â My only complaint about this place? Â My friend puked in the corner-- yeah, yeah, what can ya do? Â But instead of taking care of it immediately, the employees just looked at it each other and let the lovely aroma of puke rise, thus causing the bar to empty... at midnight. Â Boo!!!!
Review Source:COMPLETE DIVE...and yet i still end up there occasionally on a Thursday night. Let me put it this way - they serve pb&j's on white bread w/ no crust at midnight. pseudo-ghetto crowd (too many norcal hyphys, or whatever) and a lot of college greeks, but can be fun if you want to make it that way. Lydia the bartender is its saving grace.
