Very nice view of Mirror Lake.  The lobster roll was served on a stale hot dog bun though the lobster itself was of very good quality. The house salad was ok but inot impressive for the price  overall great view, ok food, and a bit costly

I LOVED the look and vibe of this spot, off the beaten path with a nice selection of taps and an old wooden bar.

In fact I visited twice, once for a late night cocktail (the bar closes at midnight) but the bartender served me at 12:30 as 2 other guests were finishing their drinks.  My second visit was lunch.

The menu is limited. You cannot get a burger and fries here. This is sandwiches with chips, salads and wraps. No fryer as I was craving fries!

Sadly my chicken sandwich sucked.  IMO they precooked the chicken and warmed it to order. It was the toughest chicken I have ever had making my sandwich messy.  My dad had the much better Reuben with stacks of corned beef, he loved it.

Overall cute, popular, small spot with amazing views of Mirror Lake.

Great views and cool atmosphere. I'm not sure about the food as I only had a couple of drinks. There were free tacos at the bar the night I was at the Cottage and they were just okay. The bartender was kind of cold and fake. Maybe it was just not her best night. I'll give it another try mostly because of the view and to try the food.

Great bar/restaurant in Lake Placid!  Must-see!  Perhaps the best beer selection that I found in Lake Placid.  We went there after-hours last weekend and had a blast.

I think this is one the places in LP that locals visit rather than the more touristy ones on the main strip.

I hope you like crowds because this place is probably always crowded.

The place to be at sunset!

Very good service (trained and proper), interesting dishes on the menu, and THE place to watch the sunset over Mirror Lake for a romantic evening.  My last visit I had a BlueBerry Mojito that was a superb summer concoction by the bartender.    A must sample everything menu is above and beyond most in Lake Placid.  There were crab filled avacados,  a Cobb salad that was rich and tasty, ummm - can't remember them all.

On my last visit we mentioned that we were splitting the three things we ordered, and they came out on split plates already!  In today's service world that is unheard of - so two plate kudos to the staff!

Though my visit to The Cottage was brief, we stopped in for a drink pre mini golf, it really left an impression on me. I had been expecting a more hoity toity kind of place but it is not that at all. It is more like a local watering hole with a spectacular view of Mirror Lake. It was clear that the staff recognized many of their patrons by name and I would imagine it bring just the kind of place I would hang out in if I were a LP resident. Maybe one day I will get one of those cute boathouses or camps on the Lake... ;)))

We ordered their house special Bloody Marys which were served in mason jars. They were spicy without being too distracting and strong enough that, cheap date that I am, I was one and done. I think the drink was either $7.50 or $8.50 and used Absolut Peppar. They must have put a good dose of the booze in there as I was still feeling it at mini golf which may or not explain my embarrassing score, lolz.

If in Lake Placid it is one of those places to check out even if for just a quick but potent drink.

This place is awesome. We look forward to our annual trip to Lake Placid and to eating at this cozy restaurant. Food is always delicious! Doesn't take reservations and there normally is a little wait. No big deal because in the winter there is a wood burning fireplace outside with seating overlooking lake Mirror. Warm up by the fire with a mulled wine or hot cider!!!  You must go when in lake Placid!!!

    beautiful view, tasty lunches.

(i made the mistake of ordering a cappucino, though. it was served at about room temperature and was gross.)

after eating, we sat outside on the patio by the fire and shared a coffee. the scenery just cannot be beat.

We were in Lake Placid over the Christmas Holiday and I've known The Cottage to be a local favorite for a while now.  It's a small place for locals and tourists alike with a cozy atmosphere and stiff drinks!  The bloody marys are awesome, some of the best I've had.  "The Cottage Nachos" were a perfect "sit at the bar and share" appetizer and the homemade chili really made the dish worth getting.  We ordered a variety of sandwiches and salads off the menu for lunch and everything was tasty across the board, albeit, seasoned a little too delicately.  My recommendation is "Lisa's Favorite" - it's piled high with roast beef and smothered in melted brie and caramelized onions and mushrooms...all very comforting.  The server was very friendly but the bar tender seemed a bit removed and a little cold, but her drinks warmed me right up.  You experience all of this while in the presence of maybe the best view Mirror Lake has to offer.  Oh yeah, outside they also have a fenced in deck with a fireplace and space heaters so you can enjoy your fare in mother nature's grace without freezing your balls off.

Overall, The Cottage is definitely worth checking out if you're in the area.  Good food, good service, and an even better view.  For pictures of all of the food we ate, check out <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fbywordandmouth.blogspot.com%2F2012%2F01%2Fcottage-dining-at-lake-placids-finest.html&s=2ee3bd4b0cadd9a39adf588326cabaf459b9e9e6e7e1cdeb3e95703a5f7f3b89" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://bywordandmouth.bl…</a>

The worst food we had at Lake Placid. The mushroom soup was under seasoned. Nachos were right from the can. The portabello, red peppers and onions with bread and salad was the worst of the lot. Probably they just boiled everything together in watery broth, slapped some heavy mozerella on it and called it a dish. The saving grace was the view and a nice waitress who did not charge us for one of the dishes as we had everything left on our plates.

We went here and had the pleasure to sit on their patio.  There patio has a great view of the lake and the mountains.  There was a one man band playing inside, I thought it was kind of tight.

Anyway we got the nachos and the artichoke dip to start.  The nachos were mediocre but the artichoke dip was very fresh and probably the best I have ever had.  It came with mini bread which was great for soaking up the dip.  For the main course I got a pulled pork sandwich which came with some fries.  The sandwich was alright.  But the real winner was my buddy with the meatloaf.  He gave me a slice and mmm mmm good.  The salad my friends got had willed pieces of lettuce.  So I would stay away from the salads.

    Really the view is great.

nice outside patio, friendly staff, good food...reasonable prices for location and portion size...

the one thing that is a bit negative is that the entrees came short after the appetisers   . I don't like to be rushed to eat and don't like to eat my main course cold because it was standing there waiting for me to finish the first course... but it was a bust evening and most likely a busy kitchen.

other than that...great place to eat and enjoy the view out on mirror lake

Great location right on Mirror Lake.  We were fortunate to get a table on the deck with great views of the lake.  Service was good, though we sat around waiting for the bill at the end.  This is a good place for families with small children as the noise level is moderate (but not high) and the atmosphere is lively.

We started with the baked brie appetizer.  It was good but was somewhat defeated by an unnecessary raspberry drizzle.  I had the soup of the day (yankee bean) which was passable, but not great.  My wife had the salad with goat cheese and nuts which we agreed was very good.  My 2-year old had a PB&J which he destroyed so I think that was a winner too.

All in all a reliable place with a decent menu and reasonable prices - a relaxing place to have a meal in Lake Placid.

Fun place, great views and service and  warm.  Drinks are well priced and they don't skimp on the alcohol. Didn't eat much so can't comment on the food.

The Cottage may have a beautiful view, but the effort at food is well below average.

It costs $10-12 for a sandwich with potato chips on the side.

The Nachos were too basic, what I would microwave for myself at home if I were feeling lazy.

I felt embarrassed to bring my parents here when they were visiting out of town and treating me to lunch.

Lovely setting with both indoor and outdoor seating right on the lake shore.  Food is good, if not great.  Service very good, friendly staff.  We would go there again.

The view is spectacular. The menu is basically sandwiches, salads & soup. The salads are complicated and high calorie; the sandwiches are pretty decent but nothing great. We enjoyed the nachos; it was just how we make them at home. The staff was very friendly. No burgers or fries here!

I didn't eat here but it's a great place for drinks in the winter.  Very cozy and warm with a great view of the lake.  Fun crowd, can't wait to go back!

ONE STAR for the food. I couldn't finish it. I had barley/beef soup that had no taste and a portobello mushroom sandwich that I simply left on the table after just a few bites. Simply awful. I would NOT recommend this place for food - BUT I would go there just for drinks, the fantastic view and the rustic feel of the place. What a shame that a place of such great location and very nice staff has such food. If you're a foodie as I am, don't eat there. I ended up leaving to go eat somewhere else. Read my next review (Caffe Rustica).

Try the nachos--I'm sure there is likely nothing healthy about them, save for the loads of dairy which you may get from the heaped on cheese, but they ae splendidly greasy and good :)  The sandwhichs are also very tasty.  We sat by the window overlooking the lake--very casual and the food was very filling.  What a neat placto just hang out and kick back.

Great place to grab a beer , and chill outside near the fireplace. Did not eat here, but some people I talked to said it was really good.

Atmosphere is great here...nice "adirondack" feel, a great outside porch and it's all right on the shore of the lake.  The food isn't bad per say, but I really think the other reviewer hit it on the head by saying everything is microwaved...really nothing on the menu isn't anything I couldn't make at home with a bit of effort.  The beer I got was very nice (local brew) and the cocktail my partner got was passable.  However, the service was really really awful.  Our waiter actually sat at the bar chatting up another employee and never stopped by to see how we where doing...we had to flag him down to get more drinks.  I would go here in a second if it was for just drinks at the bar or on the porch, but dinner was a mistake.

A little late, but CONGRATULATIONS to the Mirror Lake Inn Owners' son, Andrew Weibrecht, for winning the Bronze on the Men's Super-G at the recent Winter Olympics in Vancouver!  I imagine his name must be all over Lake Placid; the talk of the town.  Now, the Inn and all its restaurants have a renewed level of popularity, I suppose.

I've already been a fan, at least of The Cottage.  Always easy to park around whatever season.  It's the waiting that you have to be prepared for.  Fortunately, 4 out of 5 times, we were seated right away.  The Cottage sits along Mirror Lake (the Inn is across the street from it). The interior is casual, rustic, cozy and immediately, you'll be drawn by the view.

The fare is simple-- salads and sandwiches.  But they are deceiving as they can fill you up easily. They are loaded with rich stuff.  The Lisa's Favorite is my favorite-- it's roast beef on an open faced French roll, topped with sauteed onions, mushrooms, Brie and horseradish mayo.  We used to always order their Sliders but we don't see that on their menu anymore. Every visit, there's something new, and something lost.  But, the experience is always the same.  And we've had good memories there.  It was always the place we'd bring friends who were brave enough to visit us.

The view from the patio was spectacular, overlooking Mirror Lake.  There also seemed to be a pretty regular crowd inside at the bar, surprisingly genuine for a resort town.  Nice size, sort of quaint but not crowded.  Good beer selection, too.

Very happy with our decision to eat here in June '09. Location and view RULE. Right on Mirror Lake. The food was great: we shared steamed clams, cheese plate, spinach salad, and chicken burrito. My 3 Yr old had mac n cheese. Service was friendly and responsive too! A perfect evening.

The location of this place is superb...right on the Mirror Lake with a beautiful view of Adirondack mountains. The outdoor seating in summer & fall is always crowded. However, the food is sort of ok. Nothing great or special. The prices are a bit for this quality & taste of food....mainly because of the location.
Wait time are usually very long in summer/fall, weekends and good weather. You have to find parking on the main street and it is not easy since most of the spots are taken by people staying in the hotel across the street. You'd be better if you park in your hotel and take that local shuttle-bus.

Situated right off the beaten path in Lake Placid, most visitors won't ever find The Cottage unless they're looking for it.  And that's all the better for folks like us who know better!

The Cottage serves up contemporary sandwich and lunch fare with stunning elegance and creativity, all while keeping it real.

If the weather is nice, The Cottage cannot be beat with its outdoor dining right on Mirror Lake.  The soft lake breeze breathes softly on patrons as they relax, have a custom cocktail or craft beer, and take in the scenery as well as a scrumptious meal that's not too large, and not too small.  It's just the right portion to carry you through a day of shopping on Main Street in Lake Placid without weighing you down.
