Worse meal I have had in a very long time.  The wait staff was poor to say the least.  The prices were to high for what you get .  I paid $28.00 for a filet  that was maybe 3 oz. it was done perfect the flavor was good, but it was the driest piece of meat I have ever had.  The waitress said it might have been the cut.  The service was the slowest I have seen in a long time.  We were there for 2 hours and 15 min. For 2 filets.  We asked the waitress what the delay was, she said that she would check several times and not once came back to tell us anything.  SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!!  Eat at Wendy's it's better..
Review Source:As a disclaimer the definition of Yelp's two stars is "I've experienced better". Â So my review should be viewed in that context. Â We have a second home in Deposit where we spend a lot of time, especially during fly fishing season, and were glad to see a new restaurant. Â We finally went to Cranes this Friday and although less than impressed we will give them a second chance.
The menu is ecclectic and that might be part of the issue; they are not sure what they want to be. Â I appreciate the attempt at a varied bistro menu but perhaps they don't have enough traffic to keep the foods fresh as they can be. Â First, the good. Â The waitstaff was friendly and attentive. Â The pesto served with the bread was very good, and a highlight of the meal. Â The house vinagarette was also very good and had a friendly, tasty "bite". Â Unfortunately, the main course was not as pleasing. Â My wife had the chicken marsala. Â It had very little 'marsala' and the chicken was rubbery (I tried it). Â My salmon was edible but very dry and again had very little of the balsamic glaze to the point where I could not even taste it. Â We both had sides of asparagus which again was edible but had too much of a roasted taste and little else.
As I said, the menu is quite varied and some of the apps in particular looked interesting and worth a try next time. Â Our main course issue, in my opinion, comes from overly pre-prepped foods and freezing and thawing. Â This goes back to my point where there may not be enough turn in this small town to keep things fresh and cooked to order.
The interior is fresh, clean, and even a bit metro, nice work, looks good. Â The use of napkins as towels in the restroom was different. Â Music was at a good volume although they should create a longer playlist- it looped while we were there. Â Although we did not spend any time at it, they have a nice looking separated bar area. Â A large group came in while we were there and the staff looked as though they were handling it well and efficiently with no impact on us.
We had high hopes for Cranes. Â From what I can tell by their advertising around the area (I even saw a small sign on the bank of the river while fishing) they are giving it their all. Â We will give it another shot sometime in support of this new local business. Â We wish them luck.
