We went here not for food, but for a fun bar scene. It seemed very promising because there was a lively crowd and a great band. However, the bouncer was a complete jerk. He was rude and racist towards one person in our party. He completely ruined this place for me. We will not be returning.
Review Source:We didn't eat here, but I have to give it a good review for their bar. Â It's classy, fun, and great service! Â And since Crossroads is in "wiiiiine country", there's a good wine selection. Â
The people that were eating came walking out like they were stuffed, so I'm confident the food's great too!
We loved the live music from Austin, and will be back soon!
Crossroads is a great little steakhouse right on Main in the heart of Fredericksburg, TX. Â It offers the small town charm, with a traditional steakhouse feel. Â On a recent girls trip, we stopped in here for a Saturday night dinner before some live music in the Saloon up front.
Reservations were for 8pm and unfortunately when we got there they had given away our table...and we were on time. That's the reason they didn't get 5 stars. Â We trekked into the bar area for drinks while we waited, and luckily they had us seated before most of us could get our first drink. Â The menu was diverse and offered plenty of options for steak eaters and non-steak eaters. Â I was feeling like something a little lighter and decided on the shrimp and grits. Â A friend and I also shared a Caesar salad, as their salads are pretty large. Â
The shrimp were bacon wrapped with jalapeno and the grits were of the cheddar variety...needless to say I was in hog heaven! The bacon were cooked perfect and the little dollops of barbecue sauce on the side were a nice added touch. Â The grits were creamy and cheesy...about the only way I like them!
Came in on Sat nite, no reservation. We left out name at door, went into bar area, sat at the bar. Seved right away. The bartender was very busy, but doing ok. We waited an hour for out table. Waited on right away, food was terrific as was the service. We definetely return in the future.
Review Source:Came in on a Sunday night and this place was open and inviting. Â Very large bar/dance hall area, and it looked like the patio was lovely (too cold for us that night). Â They had a nice dining area and it was more upscale than I expected. Â Typical steakhouse menu with the steaks, grilled salmon, chicken fried steak, big salads, etc. Â Service was attentive and in general a pleasant place.
It just wasn't anything special. Â Ordered martinis (any steakhouse, western or not, should be able to do this), and they were pretty poor. Â Obviously made by an inexperienced bartender. Â I asked about a side salad and was told no, the only options were one of their large dinner salads...strange and not very customer friendly (no veggies for you!). Â The food was well prepared and tasty, again just nothing special, especially for the price.
Looked like it would have been a fun place when they had band or if you could sit out side.  I would go back  - and who knows, they might improve with age!
We called ahead for a 6:30 reservation. We arrived about 5 min early and were told our table was being prepared. Â We were directed to a seating area to wait for our table. After several guest were seated ahead of us and 15 min later I asked the hostess how we were coming on our table, it was obvious we had been forgotten. After we were seated we waited for sometime before our waiter acknowledged us.
When we opened the menu we discovered each page of the menu was identical. The waiter said a mistake had need made, took our menus corrected the problem and returned them .
Once we ordered our meals we received them fairly quickly and it was quite good.
There is a definite lack of organization from the hostess to the table. Even though the food is good I did not feel like they care about their customers. It was obvious the hostess was in over her head and the restaurant was not that busy. Probably will not go back.
The girlfriend and I were recommended this place by a couple of people in town. I would say Crossroads was average at best. Hour wait for a table, once we were brought into the dining room, I immediately noticed multiple empty tables.
For our meal, we had the crab cakes as an appetizer, entrees were the surf and turf and the pork chops. The food was very bland. Everything lacked flavor.
The saloon was a nice setting, although getting service from one of the 2 bartenders was impossible.
We were debating between Crossroads and Cabernet Grill. After our meal, I wish we had gone to Cabernet Grill. Unlikely I eat at Crossroads again.
Had excellent steak dinners. The bar is filled with deal animal heads and has a beautiful old back bar. Where else can you see not one but two Buffalo Heads. The waiter/bartender made us one of if not the best tasting Margaritas I have ever had.
Tip if you want to sit in white table cloth fancy, walk thu the bar to the back.
Had lunch here during a recent visit to F'burg. I had driven past the Crossroads Saloon and Steakhouse a few times in the past. It looked pretty upscale so I ended up eating at Hondo's across the street. However, this time I thought I'd give Crossroads a try. First of all, it's a very nice place in a historic building on Main Street. There is a large bar area with music at nights, a separate room for steaks and food in the back and a nice (hidden) patio for food. It's a very tasteful place.
I had lunch at the bar - the server was an efficient guy. I ordered a club sandwich with onion rings and some iced tea. Everything was very tasty. The club had LOTS of flava and the onion rings HUGE (if a bit oily). Iced tea was even pretty good. Total price for lunch with tip was about $12. A good deal. I think I've found a place OTHER than Hondo's for lunch when I am in Fredericksburg. Will have to return at night to try a steak. NIce place.
We ate here on Saturday after making reservations for 6 of us to celebrate a friend's birthday. Â We went in and actually made the reservations after the birthday girl had called and someone told her they didn't take reservations. Â When we went in, they told us the complete opposite and said that they only had 2 time spots left for that night.
We actually got there a few minutes before our 6:30pm reservation and the hostess was completely rude. Â She said she didn't know where our reservation was since she didn't take them. Â It was the oddest thing! Â It took her and the other staff 20 minutes to get us a table.
The service was slow throughout the night because we believe our server had too many tables. Â We didn't end up leaving until 9:45pm. Â The thing that was most disappointing was that a few of us had looked up their menu online and had decided beforehand what we would order. Â I didn't happen to see the scallop dish I was going to order on the menu and when I asked the server about it, he said the restaurant had changed their menu several weeks back and they no longer served that dish. Â If it's been several weeks, then why not change the menu online?! Â He couldn't even tell or describe to us what the local beers were.
Overall disappointed in the service and restaurant in general!
We recently spent the weekend in Fredericksburg. Â On Friday night, we went to Crossroads to hear Juice play in the bar area. Â They were a fabulous band and we had a great time. Â On Saturday at 6:00 pm we decided to eat in the restaurant area of the bar. Â It is a separate entrance and the decor is quite nice - you'd never know there was a bar up front...seemed more of an upscale restaurant. Â Unfortunately, that is where the "upscale" ended. Â The food was sub-par to say the least. Â We both had a wedge salad as an appetizer. Â It was a pretty ordinary wedge salad, but, it was "swimming" in dressing. Â We noticed that quite a few patrons who arrived after us received their entrees pretty quickly. Â Part of me was happy as I hate to have all of my courses served one on top of the other. Â But, as I was soon to realize, the reason for delay is that my food must've been sitting under the warming lights [for quite awhile] as it was served completely room temperature. Â Cold shrimp is fine, if it is a shrimp cocktail, but it was served on a semi cold bed of rice pilaf which had no taste whatsoever. Â The side order which consisted of 3 pieces of asparagus, were cooked well, but, had a terrible aftertaste that I couldn't quite figure out what it was. Â My husbands chicken was so-so and his baked potato was warm. Â I asked for my food to be reheated and besides rearranging the plate, it came out exactly the same temperature. I left it and said I was full. Â
I did have a wonderful Texas vineyard wine...Beckers merlot. Â It is truly sad when the best part of your meal is the wine you drink!
We weren't planning on eating dinner here because it seemed out of our price range but we were starving and our "plan A" was too crowded. Â I am so glad we ended up here! Â We walked into the bar area thinking that was where you eat but once the waitress sat us, she told us we had to go to the back through the doors to get to the restaurant part.
The helpful host recommended the pork chop so that is what my husband ordered and I chose the chicken. Â They were much more affordable than the steaks. Â It was the best chicken and pork chops we have ever had in our lives! Â I have been dreaming about that piece of chicken and the sauce ever since. Â It was crispy on the outside, moist on the inside, the sauce and potatoes were the perfect tasty complement. Â I would have licked my plate if I could have. Â We ordered a chocolate torte for dessert, which was good, but I would have liked another plate of chicken instead, lol. Â Our server was nice but seemed to forget to refill our drinks. Â The quality of the food was excellent for the price. Â If we are ever in Fredericksburg again, we will definitely go back.
It's a bar - it's a restaurant... but not both...
We went to Crossroads to listen to some music, have a bite to eat and just check the place out. Unfortunately you can do this at the same time. The bar area (where the band plays) has a "limited" side bar (where we found seats) and a main bar (where the selections are much better). Since we were at the side bar, we were very limited on the libations that could be consumed.... there is one vodka... one. And the bartender can't go to the other bar to get any others..... so Absolute it was..... Next dilemma - FOOD. we asked to see a menu.... well, there isn't one in the bar. Not even light fair.... well, there goes dinner.... too bad, because right through the door to the end of the bar is it restaurant and in smells fantastic.
Our bartender though was able to give us a "snack" though. Yes! They have Christmas pretzels that they mix with peanuts.... Did I mention it is FEBRUARY? There is also a popcorn machine by the main bar. So after our appetizer of Xmas tree pretzels, we venture to the main course of popcorn (self service of course).... Should have gotten a better drink while I was over there. The music has begun, not a bad band, so we stay for a couple more....
The atmosphere is very nice. The drinks are very pricey. But if you like stale holiday snacks - this might be the place for you.
Lovely place for a great meal, passing through the dining room there is a lovely mural I'm sure it was painted by the same guy that has done the rest of the mural's in the town. Â We ate on the patio which was lovely with the misting fans. Â Food was great, service was wonderful. Â We all had steaks, they were cooked to perfection, vegetables were fresh an delicious. Â Looking forward to returning for another wonderful meal.
Review Source:There are more hospitable places to go in town. Â We stopped in for a quick drink at 4pm on a Saturday afternoon. The woman who met us on the way in told us they were closed; she later turned out to be the bar tender. Â However, someone else came up and assured us they were open and open all day. Â
We sat down at a table and gave a drink order. Â We were the only people in the whole place. Â For the next 23 minutes we watched the bar tender talk on her cell phone, count change into the register drawer, go back and forth to the kitchen a few times. Â The only reason we ever received the drinks was because I cornered the waiter and canceled the order. Â Them I guess it was the manager who jumped in to make them but I still canceled mine. Â
I know everyone has a bad day but you can't let that get in your way when you work in hospitality. Also I blame the manager to letting her get away with it and not jumping in sooner. Â I caught up with some friends in Fredericksburg later that night and they have had similar experiences. Â They obviously have no respect for their customers and don't deserve their or your business.
Great time with friends seeing the awesome band The Mighty Orq! BUT rude bouncer wannabe  with tattoo on his neck needs to learn some tact because he made us all mad at the end of the evening. He rudely threw out even our wheelchair bound friend who was the reason our favorite band was even there!  Hello!!  Lots of upset folks. Maybe a teensy bit of power went to his head??  But otherwise awesome place and great time!!
Review Source:Really great meal, not terribly expensive but pricy. Â The food was prepared excellent and the atmosphere was relaxing. Â One thing, the waitress added the gratuity for our party of 5. Â Is this your policy or did she "see" a party of "bad-tippers" and auto-grat us? Â Too bad...we are all in the service industry and tip 30% and more.
Review Source:Ate here on my way back to Austin one weekend. Â I didn't expect much, and I wondered ho good a fine dining could be in Fredricksburg. Â As people who are much more familiar with the area may already know, fine dining can be done good in the upscale hill country city. Â This place was no exception. Â
Appetizers of lightly fried mushrooms with a soft cheese sauce and very large bacon wrapped shrimp were really great. Â Soup was nice, but nothing special. Â The pork chop meal was a great main course however. Â Spiced right and cooked perfectly, plus they gave ALOT of pork. Â This made the price more then fair. Â
All in all a great stop and a good fine dining place outside of the major cities.
My husband and I ate dinner there with a few friends while on vacation and we really enjoyed it! Â The food was delicious, we sampled a good variety of the menu. Â The buffalo sauced quail was very good and the malbec wine was tasty. Â We would definitely go there again next time we are in town.
Review Source:We visited Fredericksburg this past weekend and saw a show at Crossroads Saloon. The atmosphere is great... They offer comfortable seating surrounding the stage, a full room length bar parallel to the stage and great sound. Our waitress was very attentive and never let me drink dry up! Highly recommend for a nice evening of live music!
