Definitely a unique place--never been anywhere else quite like it.
I've wandered in here twice: once for an early weekday luncheon, and once at around 11 on a weekend. There were very few others in the restaurant either time, but that might just have been because I was there pretty early for lunch.
The menu is pretty limited--just a bunch of simple sandwiches and stuff, but they do have some good homemade soup and plenty of desserts. Plus of course their coffees and teas. I tried a wonderful amaretto-flavored coffee while I was there. It was very aromatic and tasty!
I'm not really the target demographic here--everything is old-fashioned and full of pink and lace--but the service is friendly, the atmosphere is relaxing, and the snacks are good, so I certainly can't complain. I could see bringing a friend or two here for a long chat--especially on a cold winter day.
A neat stop if you're looking for a bite to eat and a unique atmosphere.
We discovered a rare find in the small town on Genoa. Crumpets is located just a few doors down from Prairie State Winery. I had noticed this restaurant several times while passing thru town and finally decided it was time to have lunch there. I made lunch reservations and was glad I did because the place was packed for a Saturday afternoon. Â It was just the perfect place for tea and sandwiches with my mother and mother in law. Â The decor is adorable and food quite good and reasonable. Â A perfect place to meet with the girls after shopping at the winery. Â Worth the trip if you are in the Dekalb area, but highly recommend reservations for the weekend.
