The place to go for fresh, homemade soup. Finding independent places to eat that are actually good and affordable are rare. You've got many different places to choose from while you're in Door County, but this is one place you won't regret eating at. The last time we were here we ended up taking about 4 quarts of soup home (he sells them frozen, too). We're headed back to visit and this place is at the top of our list.
Oh, and the owner is friendly- much more so than any of the other places we were at. This place should get together with MacReady Artisan Bread Company in Egg Harbor, to carry those delicious, freshly-baked, crusty loaves of bread that I can dip in my soup- but if they were to do that I don't think I'd eat anywhere else. :)
In Door County the other weekend, my wife wanted soup, and a quick Internet search brought up Czarnuszka Soup Bar, where I was surprised to learn that the owner was the former drummer of legendary Green Bay punk band Boris the Sprinkler, who my band used to play with. We didn't have clear memories of each other, but I guess that was par for the course in those days. Â Anyway, super nice guy and great soup. Four different soups each day and two different sandwiches. My wife and I agreed that if we'd discovered it any day other than our last day there, we would have eaten lunch there every day. Which is what you should do.
Review Source:I noticed the sign while driving past and decided to stop and see what it was and I'm glad I did. Â In the week we stayed in Ephraim, my daughter and I ate here 3 times. Â The soup selection changes daily, there are always 4 soups and 2 sandwiches to choose from. Â It was the perfect lunch and mid-afternoon snack. The building itself is very small with only a couple of tables inside but additional seating is available outside.
In the times we ate there my favorite was the Mushroom Barley and my daughters was the Navy Bean (we also had the Bohemian Potato and Chicken Pomodora). Â Judging by the stream of locals coming in while we ate I'm not the only one who is a fan of the Mushroom Barley.
The soups were hearty and fresh. Â The bowl size was great for lunch and the accompanying bread fantastic as well. Â This offers a great value in the land of overpriced vacationland food.
I am hoping I spelled this right, but there is a little unknown (open about 3 months according to the owner) SOUP BAR in Ephraim behind Leroy's in a row of shops. Â The owner has been working in Door County for quite some time as a line cook and finally decided to start his own business. Â He bought the building and turned it into a great little soup bar. Â He makes 4 soups per day and it was amazing. Â I had a cup of all 4 and couldn't decide which one was the best. Â Its a bit hidden, but well worth finding! Â Ate there on my last night and would have eaten there more if I knew it was there! Â Just a took a little time to discover it. Â
Am hoping that he makes it so I can enjoy next season. Â He mentioned that most of his customers were local, which should help him through the winter months. Â
Pay a visit as it was outstanding!!!
After such an amazing soup adventure, I thought the only way to repay his hard work and great soups was through setting up his Yelp page.
