First, let me state the food was excellent. Â I had the Crab Toast and it was full of big chunks of crab meat and the salad was good. Â My son had their catch of the day, Grouper, which he said was really good. Â It was a bit overpriced for Grouper...I paid $6 less for pretty much the same dish at another restaurant earlier that week. Â Surprisingly, the grouper cost more than the Crab Toast or the Crab Cake that my dad had. Â
There were several things that made our experience okay instead of stellar. Â First, when we got there, we were told a 30 minute wait. Â It ended up being an hour wait. Â I understand that wait times are just estimates, but one could do a bit better at guessing the wait time and this was just way off. Â When we finally got our table, our server was a bit ho-hum...it was as if he really didn't want to be there. Â But, we quickly brushed that off since it was the week of the fourth and he had probably had his fill of busy nights and tourists. Â After we noticed that several tables sat after us had received their food and we were still without, my dad stopped our waiter and asked him to check on our meals because it had been 40 minutes since we ordered. Â The server, very rudely said "No, it's only been 30 minutes, I checked." Â Then, he proceeds to explain that the kitchen was backed up. Â Whether we were mistaken or not, the fact is that as a server, his job is to POLITELY let us know that he is aware our meal is taken longer than normal and he'll continue to check on its progress, not nit-pick over 10 minutes and correct his customer with a snippy attitude. Â
We ended up having to rush out because of a family emergency, so we handed him our cards without looking at the bill first. Â That was a mistake. Â After, we got our slips and were looking at them, we noticed my dad's Crab Cake dinner was $2 more than marked on the menu. Â Again, being in a hurry, we decided $2 wasn't worth delaying us getting out of there. Â So, as I'm waiting for my parents at the door, I decided to check the menu (just in case dad was mistaken again). Â Sure, enough..the Crab Cake was listed at $17.95 and we were charged $19.95. Â The hostess noticed my looking over the menu and asked if I needed help. Â I informed her that the price on the menu was wrong and someone should fix it so that they don't receieve any issues. Â She asked if I told the server, and I explained that we were in a hurry and didn't have time to wait for $2, but still thought someone should know. Â She said nothing else..not even a "thank you for letting us know we'll fix it." Â It was as if she thought it wasn't her problem. Â I checked today since it's been 2 weeks since we at there and their website still shows the wrong price.
I used to work in a very busy restaurant myself and know how the business works. Â So, I was a bit disappointed with the overall experience there. Â I am hoping we caught them on an off night. Â I'll give it one more try and hopefully, I can bump up the stars with a better experience.
I loooooved the crab cake. Our table also had crab legs and the crab toast...it was all delicious! Our waitress was so sweet and the owner came to chat on her way out...we are just as much in love with her as we are our new dinner spot! The dolphins were playing by the dock! Such a great place.
Review Source:This restaurant was most accommodating and let us have a seat near the door outside so we could be near our dog sitting right outside the screen door. The coconut shrimp was delicious and the catch of the day - mahi mahi  sandwich was the best mahi mahi I had ever had. When I return tot Oak Island I intend to eat her again.
