This is as about perfect experience I have had a restaurant. Atmosphere is inviting,  waiters know the menu, and the food is amazing. You have got to go out of your way to eat there if you are driving near.

The Depot is the only place I take anyone who comes to visit from out of  town. Really great food, always nice people. :)

The best of Springfield and maybe TN

You'll never go wrong with the salmon. The pork chops were delicious as were the grilled shrimp. However, all weren't seasoned as much as could be. This could be a good thing.

The family and I ate here for a late dinner on a Monday night. I was surprised that we had to wait 15 - 20 minutes for a table since they were so busy. This was my first visit, but my family has visited several times. Food came out quickly after ordering. The salad was honestly one of the best I've had at a restaurant. They use tortilla strips instead of croutons. It was a good mix of lettuce with the right amount of dressing! I enjoyed the chicken piccata. The mashed potatoes had too much pepper for my liking. Dad got the hamburger steak which he said was pretty good and also commented about the peppery mashed potatoes. Mom got the southern chicken salad (grilled) and seemed to enjoy it. My sister got the mac and cheese with onion rings. We will definitely be back!

This review may have been influenced, in part, by the nostalgia that I was feeling in relations to being back in Springfield after more than 10 years.

One of my many stops on my visit to Tennessee is Springfield where I met with friends whom I have not seen in so many year. My friend suggested we meet at The Depot which, as much as I wracked my brain, I could not remember if i have been to in the many years that I have spent in the city.  I do remember Torino's, Catfish house, Larry's, and even  the Chinese restaurant (which stood witness to the countless phone orders we've made while working 3-11 at the local nursing home)but not The Depot.  I agreed to the suggestion but wishing we would have gone somewhere familiar.

My friend and I drove from Nashville and got in a little early.  We went in and was seated right away.  We explained that we were meeting a couple of people so they seated us at the one of the booths.  The restaurant is nice with brick walls and train-themed decors.  There is a railroad located just outside the restaurant but I am not sure if it is still functional.  The vibe of the restaurant is casual and comfortable- pretty much something that you would expect from a Southern restaurant in a small-town of Springfield..  The restaurant isn't too big, thus would probably require people to wait on busy weekend nights.  If I am not mistaken, they do not take reservations.

The host and servers were friendly and accommodating.  They gave us the menu as soon as we were seated but gave us plenty of time to browse while waiting for our lunch companions. When our friends arrived, they were ushered into the booth where we were seated. We spent a few minutes catching up before we put in our order. The chicken wings were good and so was the fried fish. The sweet potato fries that came with the fish was delish and left the most impression on me. Catching up and talking took center stage that I cannot even remember what my friends had.  I distinctly remember having creme brulee for dessert but again was too busy talking to pay much attention to the food :) The prices, to me, were reasonable and okay.

One of our friend came about an hour or so late which was fine with us since we didn't really have any plans for the rest of the day.  We talked  some more while he ate.  The server was sweet and was not in least upset that we were hogging the table for a long time.  Of course, it was after lunch so it was a bit slow.

Restaurant was clean and orderly.  Restrooms were okay. Parking is provided in the parking lot next to the restaurant.

Overall, a nice little restaurant that was a perfect setting for catching up with friends.  Will definitely be back if I am in the area.

I went here for lunch with a buddy.  We had the duck quesadilla as an appetizer which was really good.  I had the buffalo Chicken sandwich and my buddy had the fish and chips.  This place to me is a 5 star for Springfield.  The service was excellent and the food was great.  I'd go back if I'm ever in Springfield again.  Portions were good size too.  The prices were reasonable.

This restaurant is one of the best kept secrets withing 50 miles of Nashville.  Great food, great service, fiiendly staff, and healthy selections.  There are a few draw backs, they don't take reservations so expect ta wait, this is very small restaurant.  Ambience is nice but can be loud.  Restrooms very clean.  Like I said, great food and worth the drive and time waiting.

Definitely the best place for dinner in Springfield. We love the Duck Quasadilla. They have GREAT Sweet potatoe fries. We always take our out of town guest there, can't get enough!! Great atmosphere, and while you're there you'll most definitely hear a train or two.

    You wont be dissapointed!!

The Depot Bar and Grill is absolutely the best kept secret in Tennessee.  We were visiting my son in Adams, TN.  We went to the Depot Bar and Grill and were so impressed and pleased with the great menu selection and the friendly atmosphere.  Our waitress was fabulous, very friendly and attentive.  I had the Shrimp and Mushroom Pasta and also the Maryland Crab Cakes which was absolutely heavenly.  My son had the 10 oz Sirloin and it melted in his mouth, he said it's the best steak he has ever ate.  We had the fried mushroom and mozarella cheeze stick appetizers.  Delicious. The menu has a great variety, from pasta, seafood, steaks, sandwiches, salads, if you can't find what you want there, then you are not hungry.  The amount of food you get will fill the stomach of any person.  We had several go boxes and enough for another meal.  The atmosphere is very casual and customer's in the restaurant are treated like "real guests".  The owner circulates the tables and checks on every customer, very nice and friendly man.  Our drink glasses were never empty at anytime we were there. Absolutely the best, most relaxed and friendliest dining experience I have ever had. The Depot Bar and Grill has been redecorated to look similar to the original train depot and yes there is actually a train blowing it's whistle that runs along the side of the restaurant during the dining experience which only add to the "old" days atmosphere. I will definitely be back to eat there again when I drive from St. Louis, MO to Adams, TN to see my son again who just retired after 20 years with the US Army at Ft. Campbell, KY 101 st Airborne.

One of my favorite places to eat... and I live in Chicago. But this is one of my go-to spots anytime I get back home. I've had quite a few things on the menu and it's all amazing. Great ambiance and the staff is always just right. Not too pushy but always there when you need them. The prices are reasonable and the proportions are always generous as well; you can't beat this place!

I was in downtown Springfield with my mom & sister for an appointment this past week and went to The Depot for lunch. It's just a block or so from the courthouse square and sits adjacent to heavily traveled railroad tracks.
Upon entering the restaurant around 11:30AM the front dining room was already almost full. I asked the hostess if there was any other space with a bit more privacy and she took us to the back room where there was only one other customer at the time. The back room gets good natural light from the side windows and there is also patio seating available.
Our server greeted us promptly and was very attentive throughout our meal. The entire restaurant filled up completely within 15 minutes of our arrival but there seemed to be enough staff to handle the lunch rush. I don't recall any music playing, but the noise level was moderate due to all the customers conversations.
The menu offers a nice variety of soups, salads & sandwiches. They had larger entrees but we only ordered from the sandwich menu. My mom had the hamburger, my sister had the cheese melt and I had the reuben. We all ordered sweet potato fries as our side. All of our food was freshly prepared and delicious. Plus the servings were quite large so all of us got to-go boxes. The average sandwich price (with one side) was $7-8.
We really enjoyed our lunch here and I would highly recommend The Depot to anyone looking for a good, filling, reasonably priced meal in a family-owned restaurant in downtown Springfield.

The Depot is a jewel in the little town of Springfield. The food is great and the proprieter has done a good job at creating a "cheers" feel. Lots of memorabilia on the walls from the days when it was an actual train depot.

For quality American-style food, the Depot has it all at a good price.  Its menu compares to that of Applebee's or Chilli's, but this mom & pop delivers with pizzazz.
