Friends and I were on the Sunday Motown Dinner Cruise and it was wonderful! Â The buffet was delicious, the staff very friendly, and the Motown group very entertaining. Â We could not have asked for a better time. Â I've already recommended this cruise to family and friends. Â Thanks Detroit Riverboat!
Review Source:We went on a moonlight cruise for a friend's birthday. Â I had fun and would probably go again but I'd do a few things differently
-We did not have to rush for the boarding was supposed to end at 10:30. Â We ended up sitting around for an hour before the boat actually left
-They said the dress was business casual, but most people were dressed pretty casually and some of us felt a little overdressed
-It was kind of chilly outside, and next time I might bring a sweater or something
Overall it was okay. Â I kind of expected they'd run out of food really quickly, but there was plenty of food all night. I thought it was pretty good too, so that was a pleasant surprise. Â The drinks were semi-expensive and they were reeeally strong. Â Their alcohol selection was kind of crappy.
I liked that there was different music on each floor, but I didn't think there was an awesome selection on any of the floors.
I also wasn't expecting to get patted down before getting on the boat - it wasn't a huge deal for me but it was definitely unexpected.
I booked the midnight cruise for me and my partner, thinking we'd have access to all the decks and all the light, airy, OUTSIDE portions of the boat. It was a beautiful summer evening, and it promised to be a gorgeous cruise ride. Instead, upon arrival, we were shuffled/smothered among very large obnoxious crowds, patted down like a criminal before entering, and then told we only had access to the 1st deck as the other 3 decks were reserved for private parties. Excuse me? Nowhere online (where I bought the tickets) did it mention anything about having restricted access. Â
The first deck is basically one big nightclub room with super loud music blaring and only one small portion of the back of the boat offering outside access. No windows, no "boat" atmosphere. Just a dance floor, blaring music, and flashing lights. I could go to a bar and get that for free, thank you very much.
We ended up walking off before takeoff. I didn't pay $30/ticket to sit in a lounge/club with dance music and one small deck to look outside from the back of the boat. So disappointing. THe rest of the boat looked nice and I was eager to get on the other decks and walk around the outside of the boat, soaking in all the views of the river/skyline.
It was outrageously crowded and cramped in that first deck and if they had put on their calendar that private parties had reserved 3/4 of the boat, I would've picked another date. I have contacted them asking for my money back, but I doubt I'll hear back from them.
