My husband and I were staying in the area for the weekend. I had high hopes for this place because of all the positive reviews. I must say the building looked cool! But the service and food were awful. I ordered a barbecue sandwich... It tasted burnt and was dry. Hubs ordered a burger... He said it was very dry and lacking flavor! We ordered onion rings to try and they were really bland. The wait staff was less than attentive. Our food actually sat at the window waiting to be served to us for 10+ minutes. And the waitress wasn't good. The food was overpriced and poor quality. We would not return or recommend this place.
Review Source:3 of us went on Sunday 7/22 @ 2:00 for lunch. Sign said please wait to be seated. We waited and waited and waited, with several of the staff never acknowledging us in any way, even though we were within 6 feet of them. I was on my last minute countdown clock before we were going to bail, when at 30 seconds left we were finally motioned to have a seat. Wish we left! Our order was 2 cheeseburger platters and 1 cup of soup. At 3:00 pm, we finally got our food. This was after a couple who came in well after us got served their lunches (cheeseburger and pulled pork sandwiches) The final kick in the pants was the fact that it was one of the worst, flavorless cheeseburgers I have ever eaten. Tough, overdone and without taste. A burger should be a signature item for a "diner". But this is a pretend diner with terrible burgers and a complete lack of  wait staff/kitchen organization. Maybe, maybe the Italian items might be its specialty, however, the Italian wedding soup was obviously, from its heavy salt content, out of a can. Sad, sad, sad, needlessly long "diner" experience.
Review Source:This is a very cool place in a very 'different' location! haha! Took my girlfriend here as part of a date that included the Hocking Hills Railroad Train ride. The food here was great! The ambiance is awesome! Really was very cool! Made it more fun listening to oldies as we traveled here =)
The food was all top notch! Very high quality! Unbelievable that this was a diner! Everything was incredibly fresh and was almost at the level of a $20-30 per person dining experience... yet it was more like $10 per person!
Looks like an old dinner. Â Shiny and chromed. Â Inside bustling with activity and plates going out. Â Clean and inviting.
Staff and Chef were very friendly. Â Chef looks like a guy you should be calling Sal. Â Really it is Luciano, but don't call him Lou. Â That's for old fat guys and he isn't there yet! ;) Â
Food was good and more than you should eat at one sitting!  We  sat at the bar and swear the burgers started as big as pie plates!
We were on our way back from Hocking Hills, and we decided to try this place after reading the reviews on Yelp. Â We were not disappointed. Â My husband had 2 of the specials (Proscuitto sliders and Pumpkin Apple soup) and both were DELISH! Â I had the Mediterranean burger and boy was it good. Â I asked for their caper mayo on the side and will probably attempt to make that at home. Â The staff was super friendly. Â I would definitely go back again if I'm in the area. Â Be warned they are not open everyday.
Review Source:What a pleasant surprise. Â I just moved to Columbus from Chicago so I'm kind of a food snob. Â I expected just basic food and I was hungry. Â The Chef spoke to me and congratulated me on my food choice...the veggie burger. Â I thought it might be a bocca burger but it was a delicious treat. Â The side caesar salad had actual shaved parm. Â Very impressed. Â Everyone took their place very seriously and I was delighted.
Review Source:This diner was the perfect stop for my husband and I on our way to Old Man's Cave Chalets in the Hocking Hills. Backed by a number of antique and specialty shops, it was a great place to stretch the legs and grab a bite before heading to our cabin. It ended up being so good that we ate there on our way out of town, too.
The family who owns the place are incredibly warm and inviting. The atmosphere is fun and laid back. They have a great juke box with a wide variety of family-friendly tunes.
But don't let the 50's style decor convince you that this is a typical burger and fries joint. While the menu offers some standard diner fare, what sets this diner apart are the dishes inspired by its Italian-American owners.
Pasta Primavera, ravioli, lasagna and other Italian-inspired cuisine round out the menu for a unique blend of options for a midwest restaurant.
Here are a couple of recommendations I can make from the menu:
- Italian grilled cheese (mozzerella, tomato and pesto, grilled on Italian bread). I got this as a special, so it may not always be an option. If it is, take advantage!
- The Italiano sandwich (my husband ordered this both times)
- Fried cheese wedges with family-recipe marinara
- Onion rings! Hey - they may be a classic, but if you've every had a bad onion ring, you'll understand why these made the list. A crunchy, light, just-right beer-batter made these babies irresistable.
- Cannoli! Oh. My. God. Filled to order, their rich and decadant cannoli was our send-off highlight on our trip home. The shell was perfectly crunchy and the filling super smooth and sweet.
A couple things to be aware of:
- The diner isn't open until 11 a.m. each day, and it doesn't serve breakfast items. If you're looking for a Waffle House/Steak & Shake, this is not the place for you. Believe me, they don't need to serve breakfast.
- The prices are a little higher than you might expect for a typical diner, (about $10/person) but the food is unique and well worth the money.
If you're headed into the Hocking Hills area, don't miss this little place. It's character and great food are too good to pass up. We will definitely be back on our next trip.
If you are planning a trip or live near-by this place is worth the swing through.
It is located outside of a collection of kitschy antique shops and furniture stores. All shops close around 5 to 6.
But the diner is open a little later. They ARE closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, so keep that in mind.
I am fairly surprised that this place hasn't received more reviews. I understand that it is out of the way but there were sooooo many people at the antique shop. Why not try the diner?
The food was excellent. My husband had a burger. I ordered the bowties with pesto.
What impressed me?
Besides the food being awesome...I didn't receive a half assed Parmesan dusting from a shaker. I received Parmesan Reggiano sliced from a block. Then the owner/chef came out and made sure we were pleased.
Was he trying to impress us? maybe....but moreso in that overly friendly Italian sort of way. The other patrons were then greeted with laughs and I could tell by the conversation that these guests were regulars and they always had a chat.
Prego!
I had lunch with a business associate here at Diner D'argento o en ingles The Silver Diner a retro 50's dining coach. Â A Â bit out of place maybe for the Hocking Hills area, but then it is Hocking County so go figure.
Nonetheless the food quality, cleanliness, and prompt courteous service was good  I had a grilled Italian sandwich which I found to be tasty and unique.  The owner I believe is Italiano and the menu had some offerings reflecting his culinary heritage and influence. I almost tried the Portabello mushroom sandwich but it was deep fried so that kind of scared me off. I will go back again and if I feel brave, try the mushroom sandwich, if not I'll go for the safety of the ol American burger, which according to my associate are very good.
