Pretty good Southern Louisiana style food. I had the oyster po boy sandwich and fries. Hubby got dry rub baby back ribs. Menu is small, but I like that. I don't like being bombarded with choices. I didn't like how the sandwiches didn't come with a side :( had to pay an extra $4 for fries. I got the Cajun style fries but I wish I got the garlic fries. Mine were over seasoned. We got FRIED BROWNIES for dessert, came with 3 dips (raspberry, white chocolate and some sort of creme dip), it was soooooo good. I think my cholesterol levels are it's breaking point but I don't care :D
I also LOVE the mason jar glasses, so cute! Restaurant is very modern-southern looking and clean. Service is great too :) Hope to come back soon and eat on the deck :)
Dirty Reds seems almost as if it is a baby conceived, born and raised at the beach given its laid back atmosphere and friendly ambiance! The $1.00 rib special (buy 4 ribs and get a side free) on Thursday night had me happily full after only six dollars, but I had to sample everything in my reach as I was with a party of six and we ordered at least one of everything. The Jambalaya Egg Roll was definitely a new concept to me, and was not only delicious, it was enough to make a meal in itself.
The Reggae music was soft enough that we could all talk among ourselves and still enjoy the great melody of the singer's voice. In fact, we ended up talking to patrons from virtually every table around us. The staff was friendly, the music superb, the food delectable, even the owners came by and chatted, and spent just the perfect amount of time at each table so as to show they appreciated our business yet not impose upon our time with friends.
What more can I say, I believe Dirty Reds will become one of those mega successes like that other restaurant that outgrew it's little space if it continues to serve it up like it did last night!!
We went for dinner on Friday night. It was pretty busy, plus with training new servers, we had to wait awhile to order. Besides that, the food and service was excellent. My fiancé and I started with the barbeque shrimp. The shrimp were big and plump--the BBQ sauce had just the right amount of kick--and served over toast. For the main entree, he had the etouffee with a side of kickin' mac and cheese. I had the pulled chicken with the corn maque choux and green beans as sides. The chicken was a little dry, but was seasoned perfectly. The sides were perfect, corn melted in my mouth and green beans were crisp. For dessert, we tried the fried brownies. You get three brownies with three dipping sauces-- white chocolate, raspberry and melted ice cream. This is the ultimate dessert. The brownies taste good by themselves, but the sauces are the cherries on top! I hope they work out the small kinks in service (that's why they get 4 stars). We will definitely be going back!
Review Source:No boudain, crawfish, alligator or frog legs. How can this be Cajun? The Mac and cheese was good, the chicken had good flavor but was dry. Nothing had an iota of heat. Which was okay. They had hot sauce. Â I'll wait a few months and try again. Until then I'll go to gumbo yaya's to get my Cajun fix.
Review Source:Mmmmmm, two days later and I'm still thinking about that mac n cheese. As a vegetarian it's always scary when your husband says, "let's go for southern food." Needless to say, Â I was pleasantly surprised to find a delicious selection of vegetarian sides at Dirty Reds'. Judging by how fast my husband scarfed down the shrimp I'd say their meat meals are equally enticing. I have never tasted such delicious rice and collard greens. Beyond the fabulous food and hip atmosphere, the owner, Lisa, is an absolute delight. Attentive wait staff, amazing chef, and stellar food. I can't wait for the summer to cruise up to their beautiful patio and grad a brew.
We're so happy to see a place like this open here at the beaches.
My brother and I tried Dirty Reds' based on the review from Shelley M. and we were definitely not disappointed. The restaurant is clean and comfortable but stylish inside and the wait staff are knowledgeable, even for only having been open a week or so.
I ordered red beans and rice with andouille sausage. It was better than some I had in New Orleans a few weeks ago! The plates came out very quickly and the food was hot and tasted very fresh. My side of corn maque choux was delicious! My little brother ate all of his jambalaya and ordered crawfish and crab etouffee to go!
Since we arrived at about 6, the Sunset Hour happy hour was still going on and we each chose a drink on the house. The house white wine was decent and the pour was generous. My brother's Miller Lite was served in a 22 oz. glass (for free!)
At the end of the meal, we split the Pecan Custard Pie. Â Let me just say that I'm born and raised in the south and I think I can make a good pecan pie. This pie banging!
The service was great (the chef, manager, and owner all stopped to greet us), the prices are awesome, and the food was even better. We will definitely be back!
Dirty Reds' is a Louisiana-style Southern restaurant in Neptune Beach. Â It opened March 29 in the space formerly occupied by Hala. Â Outside there is an inviting deck, lined with tiki torches. The interior has been redecorated with a bayou theme. Â The bar is really cool with lots of wood work, tin roof and hanging lights. Â One side of the restaurant has picnic tables with buckets in the middle for when you "suck-dat-head and pinch-dat-tail" from your Cajun shrimp. Â
Make sure to arrive between the hours of 4 and 7 for their "Sunset Hours," when your first beer is on the house. Â Yes, free! Â It's Miller Lite or PBR, but still...free beer!
They also have three kinds of Abita on tap (not included in the Sunset Hour).
I ordered the shrimp and grits and my husband tried the chef's special, which was a slow cooked brisket. Â The brisket was delicious and tender, with a wonderful smoky flavor. Â My shrimp were large and plump, enhanced by the tasso and creamy grits. Â The owner explained that in an effort to maintain an authentic Louisiana flavor, he uses Gulf shrimp. Â Everything was perfectly seasoned and flavorful, including the side orders of collard greens and "Kickin Mac N Cheese," which has a touch of spice. Â
For dessert, we shared a slice of coconut bourbon cake. Â It was moist and delicious, with a hint of bourbon flavor. Â The table next to us shared an order of fried brownies, and they sounded like they were experiencing some kind of dessert-gasm. Â Next time, "I'll have what she's having."
Dirty Reds' was a little hard to find, but it was worth the effort.
