First time here and WOW! I LOVE that you can twist and add or subtract items to your dish. Had the antipasto appetizer with vegan lentil soup instead of cheese as my meal --- yes i am an herbivore ( top with a pint of course)... everything was fresh, vibrant and made my taste buds and tummy dance! Been living up here in area for a year... obviously have been missing out until today! Will be the go to place from now on! This doggy is way happy!!! Two paws up :)
Review Source:The only reason I don't give this place five stars is that I would rarely give five stars to anyone. Food and service are consistently very good. This is our favorite stop on our way out of Tahoe. Â Even though it feels more like a "local" place where everyone knows everyone else, they treated us well and they have Stone IPA on tap. Â Yowza!
Review Source:I've always had top-notch experiences here. The food is outstanding, just check out their online menu and start drooling. For a soup, salad, sandwich menu, they work culinary wonders that most full restaurants can't approach.
The atmosphere is really cool and their location is ideal for weekend warriors coming back from the east side. Definitely a must-do place whether you're hungry or just looking to kick back and chill, or thaw.
Geez, my daughter beat me to it! Â She is such a yelper brownie!
As you can guess, we are from two different generations and I love this place just as much as the "slightly" younger patrons. Â Move over, the place is small but there is always room to sqeeze in and find a spot to just chill on the local ambience, no one of any age is out of place here and Brian, the owner, is such a kick to watch as he is seen cooking, making the best cosmos in the basin, drying dishes, cleaning the liquor shelves, tending to every person that walks into his home away from home. Â Pride in ownership is apparent here, both in his genuine attitude and his pride in his family recipes that will please the organic pallet or the carnivor. Â His menu is creative, everything made from scratch, freshest ingredients and down right yummy. Â It keeps me going back again and again and again; delighted to bring family and friends. Â Basically no dress code so no fuss, no makeup, no putting it on! Â Relative modesty appreciated. Â Don't pass this one up when you are heading into South Shore.
Enjoy!
We were up $200 after a mid-afternoon trip to the casino and jonesing to drop some serious fine dining dough. Â So I must admit that I was a little bummed when my friend suggested a sandwich shop/pub. Â But 2 hours, 8 beers, a lot of apps, 4 sandwiches and only $75 (!!) later, me and my 3 companions could not have been happier or more satiated.
The artichoke dip is delicious, as are the mozzarella, and the veggie reuben (The Paul Reuben haha).  Good choice of beers on tap.  Really  chill atmosphere.  It ended up being a much nicer evening than I expected, with a really nicely lowlit, quiet music, warm cozy vibe.
Great service, great atmosphere, really good food -- on the cheap at a chill local spot. Â Next time you're on the 50, check it out!
Divided Sky rules! Thats all there is to it.
This place is a mile from our place and I kick myself for not having hit the place up years before. Great sandwiches, great beer and friendly people.
If you're heading west through Meyers its on the right (Look for the signage that looks like an old Chemical Brothers Cover) and right next to some shop selling wood carved bears. Maybe pick up a bear as a memory of your trip? Or score yourself an Alpaca rug while your at it. The location is perfect for stopping by on the way back from Sierra or if you're stuck in chain control trying to get back over the summit.
The food is delicious, and everything we've ever had has been solid, fresh and organic. There hasn't been a disappointment.
The only thing I'd say is that if your in a rush, this is not the place for you. Divided sky is good and the word is out so the place gets busy after about 6, so much so sometimes its standing room for a minute or two. So after you grab a seat, order some drinks and some apps quick and then figure out what you want to eat for a main meal.
Suggestions. The Artichoke Dip, The Bruchetta, The Kiva and the Paul Reuben.
I am a Ta HO! I'm here almost every weekend and the Divided Sky has become a staple aprs snowboarding hang out. Â It is 20 minutes from Sierra at Tahoe and a stones throw from our Cabin just outside of Meyers. Â
If you are headed into South Lake Tahoe and you have the hunger, stop here. Â Don't blink or you will miss it. Â As you descend into the Tahoe basin, it is just to your right after the abandoned gas station. Â The Downtown Cafe is on the 1st floor and the Divided Sky is upstairs.
This is a tiny joint, so be prepared to wait if you get there after 7 on a Friday or Saturday night. Â Don't eat here if you don't have patience. Â The service is a little slow, but if you think European style, slow down, enjoy the food, enjoy the conversation and great drinks, you will love the experience.
If you like beer, this place has 20 oz pint glasses! What What? Yep.
I like the organic wine selection, my mom likes how the owner Brian makes the best cosmo in town!
Some of my favs on the menu
The waterhouse sandwich: smoked salmon, sun dried tomatoes, pesto, with melted mozzarella on a ciabata roll.
The Kiva: smoked salmon with cream cheese, mixed baby greens on a ciabata roll.
The big dipper: Best damn French dip you ever had!
They encourage you to substitute and make you own sandwich exactly the way you like it! Â No grumpy servers here, they are very friendly and will spark up a conversation with the tourists as if they were family.
Did I mention the most reasonable prices ever!! Â These are not your typical Tahoe inflated prices, so don't be scared to order the antipasto plate before you meal!
They have live music on the weekends, so stick around, tie one on, and call a cab home....
We were held up on highway 50 due to some avalanche dangers for a couple of hours. Luckily, it was right at the turn in for Divided Sky and we were able to duck inside for the wait. Maybe it was the circumstance (we were wet n' cold from braving the storm, latching on the tire chains) but I had one of the greatest carrot cake I've had in a while accompanied with the tastiest chai. I'm just very glad Divided Sky was there for me ... otherwise, it would have been a cold and hungry wait upon them mountains.
Review Source:It took 7 hours to drive from South Lake Tahoe back to the Bay Area. I guess that's the tradeoff for a powder day. Hwy 50 was closed at Meyers for avalanche blasting and my friend and I were lucky enough to be able to stop at Divided Sky for some hot coffee and tea and wait for the road to open. The bartender was extremely friendly and the place was small but pretty comfortable and chill. I would definitely go back and grab a beer sometime after a long day of boarding.
Review Source:Divided Sky is my new home away from my home away from home. Â I've spent this last ski season in Meyers commuting to Kirkwood, and nothing hits the spot at the end of the day than a beer and a sandwich at the Divided Sky.
I'm not the biggest fan of the place when they have bands playing or on a Friday or Saturday night as it gets really crowded and loud, but when it's quiet, it's a little piece of heaven. Â They also have free WiFi access!
The Beer selection is great, the food is even better (try the Paul Reuben if you are a meat eater... amazing), but the vibe there is why I keep coming back. Â So laid back and relaxing, that after a long day on the slopes I can't imagine a place I'd rather be. Â Divided Sky has made me forget that there is stuff in South Lake proper, as I never go there anymore... they are #1, so why try harder?
I loved the food (mostly sandwiches and stuff) which was creative, freshly made and filling (and as mentioned, vegetarian friendly). It was always fun to stop there after a day of snowshoeing or x-c skiing and just hang out. It felt like hanging out in someone's house, as it was bright and the furnishings aren't those of your typical restaurant.
Even better was seeing the Sunday afternoon mad rush going west up over US50, while we were only driving back to Kingsbury.
It was decent to see bands there, although not really the ideal place (sort of small with stuffy acoustics).
If you are looking for a bar in the South Lake area, but don't want the casino vibe, the Divided Sky may be your place. Â It is extremely casual and seemed to be mostly locals and mountain people. Â It was also very male heavy (the door guy joked that the group of 8 women we had was about doubling the number of women in the bar, only it wasn't so much of a joke). Â They also seem to have live music most weekends.
The points off are because they had a $5 cover at the door for the music (which we talked down to $20 total for the 8 of us) and because the space was really crowded by the end of the night. Â Also, it was near impossible to get a cab to pick us up.
Finding good food in South Lake Tahoe is not very easy. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of decent log cabinish cafes for breakfast fare, but overall it is slim pickings (Cabo Wabo, Chevys, IHOP, you get the picture). I highly recommend taking the 10 minute drive off of the 'strip' to Meyers/Tahoe Paradise to a place called The Divided Sky. It is super easy to find, and a convienient stop for those who are on their way in or out of Tahoe and are in search of an economical and healthy bite. I had been to this place before for beers, which they have an awesome selection. This time though, my friends (all of whom are vegetarians) and I decided to order some food. The first thing that we noticed was that the menu is VERY vegetarian friendly. The menu consists of organic salads, creative grilled sandwiches (most of which are veggie), pizza bread and a few other odds and ends. I ordered a cup of the Tomato Basil soup and the side salad with balsamic vinagrette. Both were outstanding. The soup was so fresh tasting, as if the cook had just pureed the tomatoes moments before and the basil was not overpowering. It had the perfect consistency (I am big on this) and maintained the balance of  the sweet and tartness of the tomatoes (and was served in an adorable cuplet).  It came with bread which had carefully been toasted just enough, but still was soft (stars being earned). The salad paired very nicely with the soup. When it comes to balsamic vinagrette, I am picky and wary of most restaurants versions. My salad was a good sized bed of mixed greens that was covered evenly, and not too heavily, with a wonderful vinegrette that gets my thumbs up. Other food ordered at our table was the Grilled Cheese sandwich and the pizza bread with Shitake and Crimini mushrooms. There was plenty of cheese on both of these dishes which is mucho importante. All of us were very pleased with our food and the service we were given.  The chef brought our food out himself and came back to make sure everything was just right. My total for salad, soup and beer = 8 bucks. Vegetarians, this is a must visit next time you are in the Tahoe area. What a pleasant culinary experience at what was orginally intended to be a potty break.
