I've eaten here on several trips to Long Island. This time i had a lobster salad, and it was very good. My friend had fried calamari, and although I liked them, she thought the cornmeal batter was too thick. From a seat near the window, you can see the boats docked in the bay right across the street.
Review Source:This quaint restaurant is solidly mediocre but often busy. Â The lobster salad was not discernible as lobster other than the color. The taste of green pepper was overwhelming. Â The fish tacos though recommended by staff had the right ingredients but lacked any punch and the salsa was clearly canned. Â The steamer sauce lacked real bite and was a bit watery. Â Lastly the staff was friendly but not well trained, constantly overreaching on the table, leaving empty glasses while replacing drinks and calling us when we were next door for our table and then making us wait an additional 20 minutes. Â It's not bad, it's just definitely not good.
Review Source:Craving Lobster we decided to check out Dockside. To start I had the Steamed Artichoke. While Artichoke tends to be a favorite of mine, this was good but nothing special. It came with melted butter and a spicy mayo/aioli on the side.
The lobster I had was beyond fresh and quite delicious. It didn't need any lemon or butter.
Where they fell short was the salad. My friend got the blackened shrimp, spinach, artichoke and mushroom salad. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!! It was Spinach out of a bag on the plate, followed by a few sliced CANNED artichoke hearts, sliced white mushrooms- not cooked, seasoned, etc., and a few small blackened shrimp which were barely hot.
The service wasn't great either although maybe not the worst. I think they were more just awkward in their delivery.
One definite strong suit, their drinks. I had a blueberry vodka lemonade which was ahhhmazing. My friends had the Gin Cooler, also delish.
So go for drinks and lobster... maybe not much else.
This is probably my fav restaurant/bar on the South Fork of LI. Food here is always great. Service is friendly and efficient, and the prices won't send you to Kickstarter for first round funding. It's classy but low key as well. They have some very good wines by the glass, and the location right along the harbor is great. It's also slightly away from the hustle & bustle of the main drag in Sag Harbor, so the crowds are not overwhelming. The seafood here is always great but try the BBQ ribs as well. They're as good as I had in any rib joint. The ambience here is good for dinner with friends, family, or a date, and the outdoor seating area overlooks the docks & boats.
Review Source:Beyond mediocre.  Just had the lousiest  breakfast.  What a bum deal. In addition to an anemic tasteless watered down hollandaise.  Someone in the kitchen decided to tossed the nastiest old rotten pei e of cantaloupe next to the eggs. How gross!  I asked our waitress to please take it away.  They'd st recycle it for days on end.  Quite frankly all the fresh white paint in the world will not mask the lack of Any talent in the kitchen.  Any chef that allows food to leave the kitchen with nasty wet lettuce garnish and rotten wedges of cantaloupe is Not invested. Oh yea and the bartender pours a extremely weak drink.  A 1 count  pour. What a douche.
Review Source:I have dined here for dinner twice. Both meals were tasty and well prepared.
Today I dined at Dockside for lunch. I had the eggs benedict, and shared the Sag Harbor Clam chowder with my friends. The eggs benedict were delicious! The poached egg was perfectly runny, the english muffin had crunch, and the Canadian bacon was golden brown. It was a bonus that the benedict came with fresh cantaloupe and a nice portion of home fries. That were well seasoned and quite tasty. I loved the Sag Harbor clam chowder. My friend who ordered the New England chowder complained it was a bit salty. It was flavorful though. We all shared the steamed artichoke, which came with a spicy mayo and caper sauce.
I will dine at Dockside again, hopefully when the weather is warmer and we can sit outside.
We ate here this week...and usually do at least a few times during the summer. Excellent place. Maybe I'm a bit biased as all I eat there is the cod fish with mashed potatoes and spinach (an excellent dish) but you really can't go wrong. Kind of an odd place but we always sit outside.
Only thing I wasn't nuts about was being charged $2 for an iced tea refill but what can ya' do...
This place has become somewhat of a usual spot for me. The food here is not the fanciest or the most expensive but it is consistently really good. The level of quality I've grown to expect from Docksides is hard to match by other local places in Sag. TIP! The oysters are AMAZINGLY fresh.
Review Source:A great experience to end my day in the Hamptons. The hostess and the waiter were friendly. I read the review before coming here and ordered the Steamed Artichoke for appetizer and Butter Poached Lobster as the entrée. I really enjoyed the sauces that came with the Artichoke, I thought they were great and I LOVED LOVED LOVED the Lobster. The mashed sweet potato tasted very well with the sautéd spinach and the lobster. Finished off with Crème Caramel for dessert and it was so rich and creamy. If Dockside isn't 2 hours away from where I live, I'd come here every weekend.
Review Source:My family and I ate here this weekend and we all really loved it. It has an odd atmosphere, bring located in an American Legion post. From the back parking lot, we thought we were in the wrong place! When we came around the front, we saw the signs and all was well. We got there early luckily as there were 10 of us and we weren't sure they'd be able to seat us. They did by rearranging tables and we were able to enjoy the great food very quickly.
I had the mussels as an appetizer, the Sag Harbor clam chowder and the scallops for an entree. All were very good, although I thought that the balance between scallops and risotto/veggies could have had a little more scallops and less risotto. The price at the end was a bit higher than I had expected based on the other reviews, but it was worth it.
I recommend this restaurant.
Could possibly be my favorite restaurant on Long Island. Â I've never had a disappointing meal here. Â Can be a fancy date place or a casual lunch place. Â My favorite meal was the recotto relleno or stuffed peppers. Â It comes with a corn-jicama salad that I've been duplicating ever since first eating it. They have unique combinations of flavors and I think its worth every penny because its comparably "affordable" for this region.
Review Source:Our waitress was fantastic. Â She wasn't overly friendly just extremely professional and attentive. Â The drink we wanted had to be modified as they ran out of a particular liqueur and it was great! Â She also replaced our friends glass of wine since our drinks took longer than expected. Â The food was excellent, definitely try the mussles!! Â The dog came along too, they even have a doggy menu!!!!! Â Cant beat the views either, and right next door to Billy Joel's "not so cute" house.
Review Source:My husband and I went here Labor day weekend. We thought we were going to the Dock House and didn't realize we weren't there until we stumbled upon the real Dock House with our stomachs already full after dinner here. Â We did eat at the Dock House the next night to compare and hands down the Dockside wins.
We ate at the bar because they were busy. Service was very good. Had the crabcakes--excellent, NE clam chowder--best I've had in ages  and I am a chef living in Boston. The flounder on the special list was good but way under seasoned and I am one who prefers clean flavors but most things need a little sea salt and this is one. The disappointment of the night (and i knew I was taking a chance as it's only early September) were the raw oysters. First of all, it was obvious that they'd been opened long before we got there--I'd venture to say the day before. There was no juice/oyster liquid in the shells whatsoever, they were terribly dry and just tasted old and shrivelled. They were Peconic Prides the bartender said. He did comp a chowder to compensate though they should not have been serving oysters in this condition at all which would have saved us the 28 bucks we spent on the dozen. Yes! We ate them but we just kept hoping for a tasty one as we adore raw oysters. Anyway, the crab cakes and the chowder more than made up for the bad oysters and we would eat there again any day just for them. Bill: one chowder, dozen raw oysters, flounder special, crab cake dinner and steamed mussel app. plus a glass of nice local rose=$
115. very reasonable and a great value in Sag Harbor.
A very kind mechanic came all the way out too East Hampton from Bklyn to help me get my Motorcycle going., Dinner was going to be on me, what do you want  ? "lobster' he said and i'm glad he did. I immediatly decided wed  head out to Dockside. This place screems  I'm on an Island close to the ocean and should be eating creatures from the sea. Sitting out side over looking the harbour in a cool evening breeze, we waited but not to long for a perfect table. The staff was super friendly and efficent, Lobster poached in butter is what we wound of having, with some oysters some clams and a cup of New England clam chowder. We had a great dinner I wanted to show my appreciation for a hard days travel and work on be.half of my new friend from  MACHINA MOTORCYCLE 9th street. We were both completely satisfied.  I went back for brunch on Sunday Got there  a little before 11 and there were already a herd at the door waiting. My party was delighted, I had a Lobster roll for brunch, why not ? i'm in Sag Harbour. Perfect delightful delicious. I highly recomend
Thank you Dockside
Good service and food. The atmosphere is nice. A contemporary space yet refined. Â The location is a bit odd as it is outside thre American Legion Hall and is just about the last eatery in Sag Harbor. Â It is also off the main drag but this is a good thing. Â The clientel is typically older. Â You can eat outside, just off the water and watch the boats. Â In the end it is good, decent food but nothing flashy in a low key enviornment. Decent salads and seafood. Â Try the Jambalaya too. Â I would avoid the pailla dish - not so great. Â If you have an oversixed Long Island ego and want to impress people this isnt the place for you - which is why I will eat there again!!
Review Source:So delicious was our food the other night, that we had absolutely no regrets about waiting an hour to be seated. Luckily, we sat outside on a perfect evening. The inside portion of this restaurant is a different beast altogether, as we (my 4 friends and I) could tell the patrons dining indoors were exclusively the over-60 crowd.
Outdoors was really amazing, and I was impressed at how busy this place was all night long. The great thing about the outdoor tables are they can accommodate small or large parties alike, without sacrificing intimacy even if (as we noticed) just 2 people share a table.
Onto the food... all of the main dishes were really great. Highlights included the special poached lobster, and their signature cod dish. I wanted to bring the cod down south and enter it in a beauty pageant, since it would win first prize -- truly a thing of beauty. The lobster was particularly great since it was served over mashed sweet potatoes and spinach, with plenty of melted butter in pools around the potatoes. Sweet as can be. And plenty of lobster. The soft shell crab special dish left my friend wanting more, so yes it was delicious but not large enough to fill him up -- or justify the price of that one. Appetizers were unimpressive... fried calamari appetizer was pretty bland, and it only came with tartar sauce, not marinara. Raw oysters were just alright, not very large, and really didn't seem to be worth $38/dozen. Also, where was the shallot vinegar??
Service was actually quite good... all of our requests were taken care of quickly and our waiter was happy to offer his suggestions. We weren't waiting around for food to come out, either. Major bonus points for letting us relax outside on the grass with a bottle of wine while we waited for our table to open up... but getting that bottle at the bar was certainly a hassle -- the bar was packed and the bartender was way too overwhelmed.
Bottom line: is a meal here worth these high prices? You could make an argument for it, so yes -- combined with the great table service and lovely outdoor setting on a beautiful night, and we thought it was money well spent.
Once seated the service was quick . I ordered the duck which was brought out 15 minutes later.  It was very very quick  and good service.  Duck was OK - but a little dry. This place  seems like the kind of place you should order seafood. They had a couple of outside tables. However contrary to the restaurant  name you cant really see the water. If you want good food and drinks and an older crowd its an alright place. Its also really close to the Yacht club so if visiting and want a casual but good quality dinner this is a good place.
Review Source:Located strangely inside an American Legion, Dockside offers very fast service, outdoor seating across the street from the water, and most importantly amazing seafood.
The bar scene is happening if you're 80, but the dinner's enjoyable for all ages. Pretty good beers on tap too.
The food's not cheap but very reasonable for the quality. I had the jambalaya so I can vouch for the clams, mussels, sausage, chicken and whatever else they threw in there.
I'd go all the time if it weren't a three hour trip out there.
