I really don't have anything against this place, and maybe i was just having a bad day when i visited (i was). However i was not overly impressed with anything especially for the price we paid for it.
The food options are standard tavern foods with a decent range of other options too. Lots of beer options available and we did have some good beers while there.
Looking back on it though, i cant see anything that really makes this place stand out over any other restaurant in the area or region.
What a pleasure! I walked from the theater on the William and Mary campus down to Merchant Square after watching a Shakespeare performance and, finding myself parched upon arrival, walked into this bar after I saw about 30 young people leaving the place. Even so, there weren't many seats at the bar, but I found an empty space and settled int to cool off and relax.
Great draft beer selections--all microbrews. No music, just the ambient sounds of conversation and crockery. And excellent service. These bartenders know what they are doing and are attentive but not intrusive. I love the half pint option--it's a great way to try a variety of different beers, and a smaller "taste" option is also available. Â The spicy bar peanuts were tasty, but the bowl needed refilling and tending.
Scheduled to dine with friends, I couldn't eat much, but I wanted something to eat and ordered the deviled eggs which were delicious.
Ok, we almost didn't stay at this place because it smelled like a cafeteria and was loud and crowded (it is in Colonial Williamsburg so that is too be expected). However, we were desperately in need of a drink and to sit down and regroup, so we found a spot at the (quiet) end of the bar. So glad we did! Can't review the food as we didn't eat, but the complimentary spicy nut mix was good. Awesome selection of craft beers and the staff was very accommodating if you didn't know what to try. Would have given 4 stars but for the cafeteria like atmosphere in the eating area. If you find yourself in Col WB, go for beer and just tune that out!
