Doug & Phoebe have really created a masterpiece here... years of experience combined with extensive research and a driving passion has resulted in a truly exceptional cocktail lounge.

Sure, "mixologists" & "speakeasies"  are all the rage, but don't confuse the imitators from the innovators.   The Dogwood stands above and beyond in its ability to execute handcrafted, infused libations on a top tier level.  Having been to some truly notable establishments in major cities such as NYC, Chicago & Portland I can say without hesitation that The Dogwood can stand up to the best of them (and in many cases top them).

Driven by their love for both food and drink they are constantly exploring new and inventive infused combinations that rotate with the seasons and pair exceptionally well with the incredible small plate offerings.  The Mac & Cheese for example is legendary... once again, where so many "gourmet" mac & cheese dishes overflow the menus these days, The Dogwood seriously owns the BEST iteration of this twisted classic that I've found anywhere on the planet... and that's no exaggeration!

Though the cocktails are sophisticated in their own right, the real gem of this place is that it lacks any pretentiousness often found at these types of establishments.  Tucked off the main drag in a historic cabin (that the owners themselves restored) you'll find the coolest, down to earth, eclectic libation den!  Really great for any occasion and any size group.  The indoors offers a sultry coziness to melt into... or spend time in the gorgeous garden during the magical Crested Butte summers.  The happy hour, "Cabin Fever" is not to be missed and offers a great opportunity to sample these tasty creations.

You simply can't go wrong here.

Beet martini? Yes, please. The combinations or flavored are off the charts. We each had 2 during happy hr ( what a deal) and tried the beet, pineapple habanero,, lemon with rosemary, and vanilla bean. All were great. Careful though, you are over 9,000 ft and these will hit you hard! Good think for the town's FREE bus.

Best place to eat, drink in CB.  They may only have small plates, but they are soo good just order one of each.  The tostadas is out of this world!  The cocktails are awesome and very inventive.  Doug makes you feel like a friend every time you walk through the door.  CB is lucky to have such a great place!!!! Always take our friends and family here and always tell people they have to go.  Thanks Doug & Phoebe! Glad my husband kept after you to bring back the tostadas :)

Good cocktails but pricey.  We stopped in here after reading one of their recipes in Southwests Spirit Magazine.  Unfortunately we only had time to pop in for a drink a piece.  The place itself had a warm cozy feel.

Incredibly inventive and delicious drinks unlike anything else you'll find anywhere. The Poco Loco, the Beetnik, and the Absinthe Minded are amazing; they also have seasonal drinks like the Winter Squash martini which is fantastic. Among the appetizers the tostadas (yes, tostadas) are incredible with star anise flavored beef. The atmosphere is also very cozy and comfortable. In a town with amazing artisan food and drink, this is a place not to be missed.

Before you come here, beware: it's really easy to accidentally have one too many (okay, three too many) drinks, because they're SO delicious. I wish I were exaggerating...about drinking too much, not the awesomeness of the cocktails.

Anyway, The Dogwood Cocktail Cabin looks completely unassuming from the outside, until you step through the doorway and into a midcentury modern mountain retreat, complete with starburst lamps, aspen tree wallpaper, exposed log beams and vintage knickknacks behind the bar. We sat at the bar and enjoyed really attentive, friendly service, and it was fun to watch the 'tenders sling drinks at a breakneck pace. The whole place was packed by 5:30 p.m., so I'm not sure how the service was in the lounge or on the patio.

I tried quite a few of their artisan cocktails, but my favorites were the Vanilla Bean: a bright concoction of vodka, fresh vanilla bean and tart lemon juice, and the Beetnik: a blood-red blend of vodka, earthy beet juice and spicy ginger.

Their drinks can get pretty pricey, so make sure to go during happy hour (from 4-6 p.m.), when martinis are only $6.

Tonight, some friends had a small party to sort out some ideas concerning a local cultural endeavor...... we all convened at The Dogwood. As I sat, partaking in the warm atmosphere of this miners cabin, which Phoebe and Doug so carefully restored to make an attractive trendy space, I reminisced back 5 years ago to when I first discovered The Dogwood.

Phoebe and Doug settled in Crested Butte from Portland, Oregon. Phoebe has credible experience in not only mixing a great cocktail, but, in infusing vodkas and gins with herbs and fruits, and incorporating them along with other ingredients, to make sensational drinks.

I stumbled upon the Dogwood while renting a small house in town. I was  deeply involved in the final steps of building a house in Crested Butte. It was a godsend to every once in awhile, sit at the bar in a place which welcomes single women. I was able to talk to other women without feeling uncomfortable at being at a bar solo.

When our house was completed, i continued to bring out of town guests, Bridge friends, anyone who would enjoy the ambiance of this wonderful atmosphere.

When you visit Crested Butte, make The Dogwood a priority.

Popped in around 9:30 on a Sunday evening. Game night on Sunday with "select a letter" drink special, and games available for play. Great idea! Cozy with cool decor. Waitress was very friendly and helpful. I chose a margarita that had apple, cucumber, and aloe. Very refreshing and pretty in the very tall glass. While enjoying a game of  cards, my husband and I shared the Mac and cheese, it was delicious! Served on a long rectangular plate it had two large crispy croquettes of gruyere mac and cheese with classic elbow noodles. Between the croquettes was a nice portion of arugula and matchstick granny smith apples, lightly dressed with an acidic note that really compliments the richness of the Mac and cheese. So good! Excellent drink menu, would like to return to try other items and stay a bit longer.

the drinks here are so good!  definitely expensive (around $10-12), but worth it.  there's also a cute little picnic set up in the backyard--perfect for a date.

Very creative cocktails and a few small appetizers. The atmosphere is very intimate, and there is a nice secluded patio (a fountain and patio heaters would be a great addition).
The only complaint is the high price of the drinks.

The first thing I do when I get to Crested Butte is check the snow report!
The second thing is head to The Dogwood where Phoebe shakes up my favorite martini in the world - the Poco Loco. A pineapple & habanero infused vodka martini with some honey to smooth it out.
The mac & cheese with truffle oil is my next favorite thing and their menu always has something new to discover - with their own twist on things. Last time I was there I had popcorn with "pig bits" (bacon) and curry and brown sugar - all popped in duck fat!
Crested Butte always amazes me with the amount of good food and drink throughout the town, but The Dogwood will always be my first stop!

An unassuming front door entices you into a cozy and intimate atmosphere. Set in a 1890's miners cabin, The Dogwood transcends time and place. Phoebe & Doug have set a tone and a bar for the town of Crested Butte. Creating an environment that encourages conversation and new friendships.

Sit down, slow down and enjoy one of the many hand crafted cocktails or martinis. Your in Crested Butte where things are done just a little differently.

    Recommendations:

Beetnik- beet, ginger, lemon deliciousness! slightly earthy with a hint of ginger
Poco Loco- pineapple, habanero, and honey. spicy and addictive
Yellow Rose (my favorite) rosemary and lemon. crisp, refreshing and savory

Carrate- mandarin vodka and carrot juice with bubbles- Y.U.M
London Press- Basil, grapes, soda, vodka. light and refreshing

    Food is awesome too!

Mac and Cheese! sage and white cheddar with green apple- YES! YES! & YES!
Fondue for two- chocolate sauce, gummy bears, beacon brittle (like peanut brittle but with bacon) angle food cake and fruit.

P.S. the patio is a nice hidden gem. Tucked away from street view, its quiet and great spot to sip a cocktail and enjoy the mountain sunset!

Best high end bar in Crested Butte. Phoebe's amazing recipes will knock your socks off. Great atmosphere, owners and clientele. The best place in Crested Butte to go and wind down after work or a great day outdoors without being bothered by obnoxious drunks.

I made sure to read all of the reviews before writing about my experience. Coming to CB from Los Angeles I never thought I would find such a kick a** environment to hang out and have a drink. For me, in comparison to what is available in CB, what the owners have created is nothing short of a miracle.

Would have given them 4 stars as they do have unusual drinks, but when someone in your party can not drink their drink as it is too spicy, the person should be able to order something else and not have to pay for the one they did not drink--- this was not our case here... They did make the person another cocktail but still charged us for all the drinks...That is not right.   The restaurant should be willing to please their patrons to get them to come back and spread the word about how wonderful they are.

Beetnik beet vodka martini with ginger was very unusual and I would go back just to try this drink again. Other creative infused drinks also available. We enjoyed 2 appetizers we ordered. Bazooka bubble gum with the bill was a nice touch, as was showing us the turquoise rocks that are popular in this funky town. One downside was one of our foursome ordered a drink he found to his dislike (too spicy). They did reformat it, but after he still disliked it, they went ahead and charged us for it anyway. Fair or not fair? I give them the benefit of the doubt and rate it 4 stars, the best rating earned in any case. But what would it have cost them to toss that drink and make him something else?

Why complain about a $10 cocktail on vacation unless you're bunking at the hostel on a budget. I've never had a bad or weak drink at the cabin, but I was also there for a good time & not to count how many splashes of booze were in my Rosebud. Friendly staff, tasty drinks, easy scene.

Cozy, funky, tasty drinks.  If you are looking for a place to chill with friends or that special someone this is it.  You can sit at the bar or choose a cozy table in a dim lit room with candles.  My favorite drink of the evening was the spiked hot chocolate with fresh mint leaves.

The owner of Django highly recommended this place to us - said that it was a place that we just HAD to go if we were in Crested Butte. Glad we listened!

Apparently this is an old mining cabin that has been revamped into a really cool, hip bar. It's on a side street and alley off Elk ave, so it's somewhat easy to miss, but if you know where to go it's easy to find.

Really neat place - has the mining cabin feel, but little things give it a chic, upscale feel: velvet covered chairs, a REALLY nice bathroom, and an incredible drink menu. I'm a fool for really unique and original drink concoctions, and this place did not disappoint. I have the Pink martini (on sale for Ladies' Night - score!), and Scuba Steve had the Thai One On, Dana had the London Press, and Butch had a beer. I really loved our drinks, and would have experimented more, but I was the designated driver, so I sipped my delicious peppery sweet martini, and enjoyed the ambiance.

While this may sound like a totally pretentious place, believe me, it's not. Drinks are expensive, but in a ski town, what isn't? Expensive, yes, and TOTALLY worth it. Also, we were probably the only people there that weren't local~ can't wait to go back!

Just off main street, (Elk)  it's worth visiting!!  It has a cozy, warm atmosphere and drinks you won't find anywhere else!  Owners Doug and Pheobe have worked hard to restore this historical landmark to a wonderful cocktail cabin.  On Tuesdays there is game night, Wednesday's is ladie's night and Tues-Friday has happy hour where some drinks are half priced.  If you like beets then try the Beetnik.  Miso-thirsty is another popular favorite.   If you're hungry, the kitchen serves great snacks like mac & cheese and a salmon cakes.  For a sweet tooth, get the fondue and make sure you try the bacon brittle - it's sweet and salty and yummy!

Set in an old miner's cabin, this place has true potential. I would actually give it 3.5 stars, but it's not quite to 4 yet. Why, you ask?

    Well, two reasons.

    1. My husband ordered one of the fancy (read: expensive) whiskey drinks, and well whiskey was definitely used. For happy hour at a college dive bar, fine. For a specialty drink with its own name? Not okay. If you're going to put cucumber in a whiskey drink, use the good whiskey.

    2. My wine was not quite cold enough, and the pours were less than generous given the price.

Overall, we had a great time here, and I'd absolutely come back. It is a slice of Miami/LA/NYC (insert your favorite big city here) in a town that is abundant with laid back, casual dive bars...so it's a good change of pace. The atmosphere is fabulous, and our waiter was great - friendly, attentive and easy to talk to.

Given the prices charged, a few small improvements would take this adorable place to the next level.

Besides, who can't admire a place that serves Bazooka bubble gum with the bill?

Though, now that I think about it, that may be a tactic to distract you from the cost......
