Sorry, other reviewers, but this is not the best Mexican restaurant in the world, the country, or the state. A lot of hyperbole is going on here because this place is FINE but nothing great. If it were in San Diego or San Jose or [insert Californian city], this place would go under in a week. This place thrives on niche. It fills the need for a local eatery. It fills the need for a place to hang out for locals and folks from the AFB. It's got a fun and funky local vibe, and if I were from Boron, I'd be into it. But in the grand scheme of food, it is not the best anything other than the best Mexican restaurant in Boron. It'll do. But don't come in thinking it's gonna change your life. The beans are great, and the chips are crisp and good. Other than that, everything is pretty ho-hum to me.

We stopped at Domingo's because The Barrel was closed. I ordered nachos. I expected chips swimming in nacho liquid. Nope. I got chips with a nice amount of sour cream, and guacamole, and topped with SHREDDED CHEESE! It was quite delicious! The service was fast and friendly. The owner (Domingo?) spoke with my father for a good 30 minutes about all the astronauts that come straight to Domingo's when their spaceship lands, hence their slogan, "The greatest food on Earth."

Perfectly average mexican food. The service is fast and very nice. Inside is a little divey and full of locals who all seem to know each other. I felt as passers through that we sorta stuck out like a sore thumb. Ah well.

:) Good place! We stopped here driving back from Lake Isabella on Memorial Day. We were really surprised by the quality of the food, the affordable and honest prices and the meal was really good!

Wow! Never expected this in Boron. This town looks like a ghost town. Even the grocery store had few cars in lot. Domingo's parking lot was the most full, with good reason.
We were seated quickly. Wait staff was excellent. Very attentive.
Salsa was homemade and excellent! Chunks of onion, tomato, with quite a bit of hotness. The refilled our bowl before we had even finished.
Raspberry and regular Margaritas were excellent.
Fajita mix was chicken, steak and vegetable fajitas. Great seasoning. Steak was a little chewy, but the chicken & veggies were great. I was disappointed that they only gave me two tortillas, but before I even finished, they asked if I wanted more.
Spanish rice was light and delicious.
Red Snapper and crab was heaven! My husband ate very slowly so he could savor his meal longer.
The reason for 4 stars instead of 5?
The Flan was terrible!!!!!! I wouldn't even call it flan. It tasted like a mix custard. There was no caramel sauce (browned sugar), but a thick sticky ice cream topping caramel. Plus they put whipped cream and chocolate syrup on top. It was a bad desert, but it was not Flan.

My husband and I go here every year on our way to Vegas. We generally get there as soon as they open on Sundays for their buffet, and the staff is ALWAYS attentive and friendly.

Great basic Mexican food, along with other items that other places don't have
(chorizo with potatoes and jalapenos). Worth the money.

Standard Mexican fare but the best service of any restaurant. They should offer classes to train other service professionals about customer service! I also like that the margaritas have a cherry garnish ;)

yum Yum YUM! Wonderful service, and food that is heavenly. Ask about their specialties, but know that everything on the menu is delicious. The service and staff are diamonds in the rough. Be sure to ask the owner about the photo of the astronauts wearing the sombreros.

Incredible service from the entire staff. Our group was staying at Edwards AFB for training and we visited Domingo's 5 times in just over a week. Owner stayed open past closing time to entertain our group of 12+ people, even gave us free staff shirts!
Food was very good, huge portions. Great margaritas too! Really interesting to see all of the aeronautical and NASA-related memorabilia on the walls
Highly recommend stopping by, because honestly there is nothing else to do in Boron, CA.

Boron isn't a metropolis. It's in the middle of nowhere in the desert and most folks would zip on by. But us two hungry travelers were desperate and we found a treasure in Domingo's. Food is fabulous (everything I have ever ordered was great). Service is excellent. Clean rest rooms. Decor is lots of fun from colorful Mexican "usuals" to a toy train that circles the ceiling to great set of pictures of the owner with various jet pilots. And the owner, who is a snappy dresser and Honorary Mayor of Boron, is usually there with a smile, handshake and good story.

2nd Best Mexican Restaurant is owned by his brother. Also called DOMINGO'S, it's up the road a piece in Tehachapi. http://www.yelp.com/biz/…
Not quite as much fun as the Domingo's in the middle of nowhere, but the food is truly yummy! Their idea of Carne Asada is a great sirloin steak with traditional sides; and the albondigas (meat ball soup) is the best!

Excellent service. Food was authentic and good. Ice cold beer. Fried ice cream was good too. Lots of Edwards AFB memorabilia. Stopped for lunch on way back from so cal, its about half a mile off the 58.. found it on yelp saw good reviews and didn't disappoint. If You're passing through boron stop and try it out... Very tasty spot with great prices, food and service. The type of tasty place where I could eat two meals.

I tried their pork enchiladas combination. Perfecto!

Our family does a lot of off roading and quad riding and Domingo's is one of our favorite destinations to ride to when camping near California City. There is plenty of parking for dirt bikes, quads and dune buggys.

The patio is a great place to sit when you are dusty from riding and their very tasty Cadillac margaritas go well with Domingo's excellent salsa and chips.

I like the beef tacos and my G/F likes the cheese enchilada (xlnt sauce). The owner is a very nice man and has tons of space memorobilia all over the walls due to his proximity to Edwards AFB.

On Sundays the brunch is a pretty good deal.

We were forced to eat here as we were driving back from Vegas to SF and on Yelp...this popped up that is NOT a fast food joint. So o wells...

Boonies!! The place looks a little dated with some annoying trains running around the restaurant above your heads...had to tell them to turn that crap off!!

I had a trio plate with a chicken enchilada, chicken taco, and a chile relleno. The taco was blah!...I've had better at my local taco truck. The enchilada was OK...but didn't scream at me...I think I would probably prefer Chevy's enchilada over this one. The Chile Relleno was the shitznats...I've tried something close to that at my friend Juan's house...I believe his grandma made it. So yeh...out of three items...one gets top grade one gets mid and the other is a fail...so does that make it a B average??

The food was not good at all. I don't know what changed from the other reviews but my wife and I did not enjoy it. I had a NY steak tips cooked in their special sauce and it was like chewing a piece of shoe leather. I sent it back. The salsa was so hot we couldn't eat it. Her margarita was sour and very weak. This seemed to be the only place to eat in this town of another era but if I were you stay in and have a peanut butter and jelly. Oh the service was great, he took my meal of the bill no problem. My wife's shrimp enchilada was fair.

Domingo's definitely has the best Mexican Food in Calfornia. The salsa is by far the best i've ever had and the food is crazy good - very authentic and fresh! You'll probably never have Mexican food this good. The location of this restaurant makes it a real hidden gem, its quite a drive from where most people in SoCal would be, but it is definitely worth the drive!

Staff is exceptionally friendly and responsive, funky/cool decor, lots of space/astronaut stuff (it's in the Mojave area after all).

This place is kind of remote so unless you worked near here or traveled through the area, most people aren't going to stumble upon this place but if you're in the area, try and find it.

The food was very good and in my opinion, very authentic Mexican as opposed to the more typical Tex-mex that I usually see.I got the feeling this place was family run or the staff sees itself as a big family.

Food was fresh and tasty- I don't recall the specific name of the dish i ordered but it was really good, generous portions as well and my drink was refilled quickly and plates removed quickly.

If I am in the area, I would definitely go back and not because its like the only restaurant within 20 miles easy. It's also a favorite for the astronauts who occasionally have to land in the Mojave as well as the Air Force folks who work nearby.

Hard to believe, but true. Great food!
We had a dozen oysters on the half shell, two huge Cadillac Margarita's, soup, salad, I had the deep fried whole fish with carmelized garlic and my husband had the steak and peppers. I dream about that fish!!
Then we had deep fried ice cream (nothing special) and coffee.
And the bill came to about 50 bucks! And the oysters were wonderful...in BORON!
We used to rush by this little town (and for good reason), now it's a must stop so we can eat!

I was turned on to this place by one of my truckin' buddies, who used to stop in here when he frequented this part of California. He assured me they are truck-friendly, no problem parking the rig on the street out in front of the place.

I loved the desert outpost, test-pilot hangout feel to this place, (it's right on the outskirts of Edwards AFB, the walls are festooned with tons of photos of the stars of the space program).
Ordered up some combo fajitas and an ice-cold Corona, just the thing to unwind after a long day of fighting California traffic. Piping hot, with all the requisite sides, juicy beef and plump shrimp, freakin' fantastic.

Stayed a while to slam a few shots of tequila, tried a new one (to me) called Herradura, a reposado that's so smooth you don't need training wheels.

All-in-all, a fine oasis of desert hospitality, I highly recommend it.

I've been eating at this place since I've had teeth. No joke.

Growing up in Boron is difficult but this place is a huge perk to it all. Hands down best salsa I've ever had!!! We've turned a lot of people into fans of this restaurant. It'll always have a special place in my heart.

Delicious "straight from Mexico" Mexican food.
Bomb chips/salsa. Fajitas are the best here. If you want Flan the way its supposed to be than this is your place! They even put a Cherry underneath too :P. HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. Past reviews are right, I met Domingo himself who was hosting the evening. He was High in energy, positive in spirit, and such a nice person! He deserves This success!

Stopped to get a burrito which was great! Asked about where the nearest gas station was; only 6miles away, but too far for me.

When the owner found out I had run out if gas in his parking lot, he went home and brought me back a gas can to get me to 6 miles to the gas station. AAA was going to taken hour to get there.

Great food and service!

How crazy are these guys? Pretty crazy! They built a Mexican restaurant in the middle of a what's almost a ghost town and serve some of the most awesome Mexican food on the planet, attracting people from far and wide to eat here. Hubby and I love it so much that we always plan a special stop if we come within 100 miles. We actually talked about buying one of the rundown little houses in this ghost town just so we could drink their overly strong Margaritas and not have to drive. If you want a surprise treat in the middle of the desert, head to Twenty Mule Team Road in Boron, California for a visit at Domingo's.

TIP: The Seven Mares Soup is a must have!!

We came here on a road trip to California from Colorado. My mom had traveled though many times, and felt this was one of the better places to eat within a few hours.
Our hostess was truly awful, untrained, crass and rude. She could have been a cute girl except for the pounds of blue makeup on her eyes and the open mouthed smacking of gum. But hey, this was a small town and clearly the only help they could get. The owner himself was very nice, so I was willing to forgive them the service of this ridiculous girl.
The bathrooms were very clean, surprising considering how many people probably stop there while traveling.
My tacos were great except for I asked for no cheese and got a lot in them. I ended up having to pick it all out. A small error, but as I'm allergic to dairy, definitely something I care about.

While checking out Boron today, we decided to have dinner here based on the awesome Yelp reviews. Our conclusion was that it was very good, but not quite what it has been built up to on Yelp.

The service was fantastic! All of the employee, not just our server, cleared our plates, refilled drinks and brought more chips and salsa. Our server even politely shook our hands before and after our meal.

Now to the food, the salsa is HOT, but good. Chips were also good, our second batch even came out warm. Margaritas were so delicious I had to have seconds ;) My husband has the 3 item combo with a cheese enchilada, beef taco and chile and I had a corn tortilla quesadilla. It was all tasty, hot and fresh.

If we were in town again we would eat here, but we certainly would not veer off the 15 fwy on our way to Vegas to come here.

My friends and I ride motorcycles all over Southern California. Domingos is a major stop for us! Their all you can eat Sunday champaign brunch is not to be missed!

I love Mexican food and I eat at a lot of different Mexican restaurants all over. Domingos is one of the best I've had and their wait staff is fast and friendly! Definitely worth the stop next time you're out that way.

Yes, why on earth would you go to Boron? Well, either you were forced to land your space shuttle there because you couldn't go to Florida, or you're out ATV-ing with your pals on Presidents Day weekend, or you're driving to Las Vegas on route 58. Doesn't matter, JUST STOP! And get yourself into Domingo's.

What to eat? The Carnitas Tacos, of course. You won't find better carnitas if you searched your whole life.

What to drink? Have a Cadillac Margarita! You won't find a more tasty and potent drink this side of the Pecos (potent for sure -- my husband and I call them "Military Maggies").

What to do? Talk to Domingo himself! You won't meet a more gracious host, always smiling and happy to see you.

We travel with our dogs and Domingo's will let them be on the patio while we eat. Once, on an impromptu stop, their patio was reserved for a birthday party. It was summer, so leaving the dogs in the car was not an option. We asked if we could order the food to go, and eat on their front porch. They were all too happy to use their porch -- they brought out a table, set it, and had a server come and take care of us.

As you drive along CA 58, you will no doubt wonder what nut job told you there was one of the best Mexican restaurants in the country in Boron, CA. But, trust me; it's true. Domingo's excels in every aspect that makes a restaurant excellent. The service is five star. Your chips, salsa and drinks will never be empty. You will never have to flag down a waiter for anything. They seem to anticipate your every need. They go out of their way to make sure you enjoy your meal.

The food is classic So Cal Mexican. They make my favorite salsa of any Mexican restaurant. Their chips are fresh and crispy. I have sampled almost everything on their menu at one time or another and it has all been great. I love their albondigas soup which comes with most of the meals. They have an all-you-can eat brunch on Sunday that is fabulous and lets you try a bit of everything. Their margaritas are awesome, huge and cheap. That's not necessarily a good combination since everyone who eats at Domingo's will be getting in a car and getting as far from Boron as they can as soon as they finish eating.

Domingo is the owner and he is a character. He spends a great deal of time in the restaurant so you are likely to meet him. He loves nearby Edwards AFB and the Space Shuttle program. If he stops by your table to ask how you enjoy the food, ask him about the astronauts he's met, or the time he got to ride in an F-16. He will chat your ear off and bring out his personal stash of very cool swag he's accumulated. The stuff on the walls is nothing compared to what he pulls out if people are interested. If you like aviation history or space, you should stop by just to see the signed photos.

It can get crowded but there is never much of a wait. The tradition is that when the Space Shuttle lands at Edwards, the astronauts eat their first back-on-Earth meal at Domingo's. The restaurant isn't closed when this happens so it can get very crowded. But, it's also fun to meet people who were in space just a few hours before.

Domingo's would be a must-stop if just the food was awesome. However, you get the full package, awesome food, amazing service and you're surrounded by some pretty cool history. It's definitely worth taking the exit to Boron.

If you blink, you will miss Boron. If you blink again, you will miss Domingo's.... So, don't blink...

Boron is home to California's largest open-pit mine, which is also the largest borax mine in the world. You should look up what boron is used for, you probably use it everyday and don't even know it.

Ok, Ok, the situation......

Domingo's Mexican & Seafood Restaurant is a true Classic. Yes, in the middle of nowhere but you will be shocked who has been there. It's located just north of Edwards Air Force Base. By saying that, can you imagine the clientele? There are signed pictures completely covering the walls of just about every astronaut, test pilot (yes, Chuck Yeager), space shuttle crew, and many people who work in the aerospace / military industry. If you're a aerospace / aviation nut like myself, this is the place for you.

The food and service are commendable. I've tried the usual dishes here and my plate is always clean at the end. It's family owned and once again, it shows that quality and care go into the food. The owner sometimes comes to your table and asks is everything OK. If you're lucky, the owner will tell you stories of what has gone on in the past at North Edwards.

I had to give this place 5 stars because of all the aerospace / aviation history, great food and good service in the middle of nowhere.

It felt like we were destined to stop here. My band was touring through California, and on our way to San Diego we decided to forgo LA traffic for a slightly longer scenic drive through the desert.

In need of gas on a desolate strip of highway just past Edwards AFB, we pulled into a town with an unfortunate name: Boron. We were in awe as we drove down the sun-scorched road into town, past dilapidated buildings and dirt side roads. What kind of person could possibly live there?

We found no gas, but we did find a Mexican joint called Domingos. From the moment we sat down, we knew this place was a special oasis. Domingo greeted us, and the bartender kept the beers and margaritas flowing. The chips were large, crispy and fresh -- the perfect conduit for the delicious salsa that never stopped getting refilled.

I went with two tacos. Other members of the party went with burritos. I just ate breakfast 2 hours prior but finished every bite of my food.

Sure, the food and service are superb, but what I remember most about this place was Domingo. This man grew up in Boron, wondering what he'd do with his life. As a young man, he had the opportunity to buy the restaurant. He's now celebrating 20 years as the owner. We all received pens and business cards. Over the years, Domingo became the honorary mayor of the town, and also of Edwards AFB. Astronauts training for missions dine there. Julia Roberts dined there while filming Erin Brockovich, which was filmed in Boron. Supposedly Domingo plays a very small role in the film.

Domingo gave us his blessings for our journey, and at that moment, we knew this place was special. I live nowhere near Boron, and I may never eat there again. But if I am anywhere close, I will sure try.

Domingo's in Boron California
is an experience that you should drive out of your way to experience.

The food is very, very good Mexican cusine ......
The margarita wall is very impressive .......
The photos of all the space shuttle astronauts that have eaten in Domingo's is inspiring .......
The atmosphere in the room is phenomenal ...
The service in this small "out of the way" is unparallelled ......
The attention that you get from the owner is unheard of .........

Whew .... what an experience -
The salsa starting your meal is an outstanding combination of fresh ingredients.
The salsa can be placed over freshly prepared tostada chips.
The attention to your drinks by the staff ensures that you will not go thirsty.
We had everything from Fresh Fish Taco, to Chili rellano, and fresh Carnita Tacos.
Supurb ! !
The key word is fresh - everything is so flavorful and tasty.
But once again...... The atmosphere is infectious - - -
You can not help but get caught up in the joy at the next table and the laughter coming from other parts of the cantina ...
A totally great experience.
It is one of those places you should just visit.
Go out of your way and visit .........
You will not be dissappointed

I give Domingo's five stars without hesitation. I've only eaten there once, in 2006, but the food was absolutely phenomenal, the atmosphere comfortable, and the staff extremely friendly.

It's the kind of place you wouldn't expect to find in Boron, a town that has definitely seen better days, a place so small it makes nearby Mojave seem like a bustling metropolis. But if you're within a 100 mile radius, it's worth making the drive to experience the Sunday brunch. I had, without a doubt, the single best serving of huevos rancheros that I have ever had. I think about those huevos every time I order eggs for breakfast, and I die a little inside, knowing that Domingo's is 400 miles away from home. Sigh!

The iconic Mexican restaurant. This is almost a destination for me. Ever flowing chips, salsa and iced tea.
I have never had something bad here. I've been a customer since 1991.
Everything is tasty. The chile colorado stands out. As do the fajitas. I love the carnitas tacos.
The service here blows away any other restaurant I've been at. They are super attentive. Your tea will never empty.
Please, you owe to yourself to try Domingo's the next time you're in the neighborhood.

I'm conservative with my stars so 4 is pretty darn good...

Domingo's is a fantastic Mexican restaurant in the middle of nowhere, aka Boron, CA. They mainly cater to the lunch crowd from nearby Edwards AFB and the NASA Dryden Flight Research Center, so the walls are covered in aviation-related art and photography. The astronauts stop by this oasis of spiciness and margaritas whenever they land at Edwards, so there are many signed photographs of current and former shuttle crew. The proprietor is always sharply dressed and quick with a joke, and service is exceptional. Avoid Friday lunch unless you want to compete with the crowd from the base, which harbors many fanatical devotees of the place.

Major Pros:
The salsa - spicy, full of onions and cilantro. LOVE it.
Service - slightly on the slow side for big groups, but very friendly.
The tequila - a whole wall of them. Try them all if you dare.

Major Cons:
At least 100 miles from anywhere you might otherwise be visiting. However, if you find yourself headed from LA or Bakersfield to Las Vegas, it may be well worth a short detour along CA-58 to sample this place.
