I've been drivin' all day, my hand's wet on the wheel
There's a voice in my head that drives my heel
It's Gayle callin', says you're almost outa gas, get off here!
And it's half past four and I'm shifting gear....
We were driving back to Ames from Minneapolis Sunday and although driving through farm country on I-35 is soothing and stunning, you do wonder where the next gas station is when your fuel empty light comes on. Luckily, the Latimer exit came up and a lone Dudley's Corner beckoned.
What I like about Dudley's is that it's not a cookie-cutter joint. Inside, you'll find a nice local Iowa flavour, with a convenience store on your left and a cafe on your right. Under the Shell sign was a fellow traveler, perhaps on his way to the Hobo Convention in Britt.
And soon enough we were back on the road, with another Midwest experience behind us and no doubt another Dairy Queen ahead of us.
