Duke's Cajun Grill in Mighty Portland MI is quite the hot spot in the summer time on the patio. On a day of deluge in April, it is a good spot to reacquaint and quell the thirst. Dukes has often been a spot for me to venture to, partly because the options in the metropolis are limited and partly because they do have good food! I have had several of the menu items in the past to include the burgers. Dukes has a decent beer selection and I was happy to try a Michigan brew Perrin. This beer would have been better under the springtime sun, but who can control these things. The burgers we tried were the Bayou and the Bacon Cheddar. Both were half pounders and both came with lettuce, tomato, and onion. The Bayou had BBQ sauce, peppers, and pepper jack cheese. ( My personal fave!) The Bacon Cheddar came with..... Bacon and cheddar!

Both burgers were cooked perfect and our glasses never reached the bottom. The service should have been amazing, since my sister was part of the wait staff things better have been prime. With or without the family staff, Dukes is a fun place for beers and good food!

Let me start by saying we ate here once a year or so ago. I don't remember exactly what we had, but I do remember walking away very happy with our experience. Knowing this, we decided to meet the inlaws for dinner to celebrate Mother's Day. Â Portland is 1/2 way between our houses, so we decided to make it easy for all of us- but let's face it, there aren't a ton of choices to eat in this town. Duke's it was.
I was very excited to go back and eat here, so I walked in with deservedly-so high hopes. Sadly, a good dinner was not in the cards. Our party of 5 ordered the following: Chips/Salsa for app, Thin crust pepperoni/mushroom pizza, nachos with grilled chicken, shrimp jambalaya (with the waitress recommended jalapeno pasta instead of the rice, and kids chicken strips/fries. All sounded wonderful. Now for the low-down on the choices: Chips/Salsa- Chips seemed overdone, salsa was good/ok, but not enough of it. Â Pizza: Tons of crust (and not in a good way), tons of rubbery cheese, hardly any toppings. Nachos: Obviously sat under the lights too long. Burned chips on top, soggy chips in the middle. Jambalaya/Pasta: Tasteless. Not spicy at all, not really anything at all, just tomato-ey. It also sat under the lights forever, and was dried out on the top. Chicken fingers: Dried out and thisclose to being all out burned.
Overall, very unimpressed. We had such high hopes for this to be a great meal, and we all left pretty disappointed. Â Bummer.
