The best restaurant in this small ranch town that sets in the middle of cattle and horse country (but vineyards are invading as seemingly everywhere in the west coast states). The portions are large and the food is very good. Â I have had only breakfasts and lunches here.
This used to be the lunch stop and turn-around for an old steam-powered tourist train that traveled between Yreka and Montague. It fell victim to the great recession of 2008.
A small State Wildlife Refuge nearby is a great place for birding, fishing and seeing other wildlife.
For a scenic drive through shasta valley follow the back roads with Hornbrook at one end and Weed at the other with Montague and Grenada in between. Hwy. 12 connects Grenada with Hwy. 97 that starts at Weed.
Small town country cooking at it's best! 7 Miles east of Yreka.
Exploring the Yreka area while the car was being fixed found The Dutchman.
Excellent fresh breakfast, nice people, no lines. CALL AHEAD to make sure they are open (530) 459-5397 Â Wed- Sat 8-2 Sun 8-1
Bonus:If going North on I 5 when you are done eating just go north on 11th St to get back to I 5 (16miles) Â turn left on Copco Rd. after crossing the river. You skip some hills and have a nice fast ride through the countryside.
