Edgar's must be one of those Jekyll and Hyde kind of places on the Jersey shore, depending on when you visit.
I stopped in to rehydrate after roasting on the beach for a couple of hours and found it on the atypical calm side. There weren't many people there, maybe only about a dozen or so scattered around the large, square bar. But, it was only mid-afternoon on a Saturday, so it was understandable.
When I sat down I saw the bartender making up a batch of margaritas and told her to add another one to the mix, minus the salt. One became two as I debated on whether to order food. In the end, nothing jumped out at me from the menu. So, I paid for my drinks and made my way back out into the blazing Summer heat.
Edgar's in an okay spot, but I'd like to see it when it gets bumpin' and jumpin'. Or maybe not.
After an 8-month hiatus, I came back to this mecca of sloppy hookups.
I love this spot because there are lots of chill NJ Shore residents here...AND no dirty, slimy, greasy brooklyn, staten island, or queens jagoffs that flock to the NJ beach scene in the summer.
The vibe is very casual, the beer specials are dope and the DJ kills it on Fridays...I'm a dope dancer, but if you can't dance, it doesn't matter...none of these other white people can either.
I missed this spot for 8 fuggin months.
Came to Edgar's last night to see the E-Street Shuffle-a pretty rockin' tribute band that plays homage to the Boss. Service was good as was the food. This place got PACKED when the clock struck 10. So if you come to see a band and want a seat at a table, get there early! My biggest gripe were the prices. I found them to be pretty high for what I would consider to be only a step or two above a dive bar. We ended up paying $30 w/tip for a pizza (no toppings), 2 beers ($4.50 for Yuengling, COME ON MAN!), and a soda. They claim to have reasonable prices, but I am still wondering "reasonable compared to what?" At the end of the day, not a bad place, but if you are on a budget, there are many other places in the area where you can get food and drinks for a few bucks cheaper.
Review Source:Wow, Edgar's - we used to come here a lot back in the day when we used to get the Entertainment Book which had great coupons - haven't been back but went recently and enjoyed a nice casual (kinda "eh") dinner - when we wrapped it up, there was a 1-man band setting up which looked hysterical (as they always are) - this is definitely a "been there done that" kinda place...we wouldn't go out of our way to go back.
Review Source:Edgars was a great time this past friday night..dollar beers, how can you beat it ( Kinda pissed I have a real job in Philly now, would have totally taken advantage of this more often). I also hear that the beirut/beer-pong on Tuesdays (i think that's the night) is awesome, great time to hang with friends and win some really great prizes. I heard that starting Memorial day they will start charging cover though, which is a downer but i mean i guess that is expected with the incoming summer crowd.
Whatever you are doing Edgars its working, I kept hearing from all my friends that you kind of just popped up out of no where but are totally killing it.
How can no one have written up Edgar's?! Â It's one of my favorite bars down the Jersey shore. Â Now that there are fewer cougars the scene is alright by me. Â I just wish they'd keep the good dance music going. Â On Saturday night a couple weeks ago the dancing was not to be had until like 1am, which on one hand allowed me to spill less of my gin and tonic, but on the other hand did not allow me to burn as many calories :(
Very fun on summer weekends, although $8 cover on Saturday night is not so fun...
