Great for casual dining. In the few times I've been there, service has been prompt and friendly. Portions are generous. I had them cater a private party once, too, and they were fantastic to work with. Corn fritters are to die for - standards like pulled pork are very respectable. The floor plan is horrible there, cut up on multiple levels, but that's not their fault. I personally appreciate the fact that little kids aren't allowed in - makes for a much more peaceful meal for us older folks.
Review Source:I liked the layout of the restaurant, very cool place. The food was delicious - I had the pulled pork sandwich with jalapeno cornbread, Guinness black & tan onion rings, and sweet corn fritters. I couldn't get over how delicious Guinness black & tan onion rings were - never had anything like that! The sweet tea was just right too!
Review Source:This place was just ok to me. It was my first time and I got the half chicken, and it was dry and over cooked. My wife got the pulled pork and she liked it a lot.
The restaurant was itself very clean. It's much bigger inside than it appears from the road. Prices were reasonable, and portion sizes were good.
I will give it another shot before I write it off, but I'm going in with low expectations, unfortunately.
My coworkers and I stopped in late on a weeknight and asked if we were too late to get food - they didn't tell us that we were and kept the kitchen open late for the three of us, so major points for that. The beer selection was decent and the menu had a lot of great options. I had a pulled pork sandwich which was pretty good, baked beans which were really good, and another side I don't remember. The mac & cheese balls were pretty solid too!
Definitely a solid experience overall!
We were back home visiting family and tried this place out. I have to say, we were impressed with the menu. Great selection, unique food and it appears everything is done from scratch. Everything I look for in a great restaurant.
Unfortunately, my first impression wasn't that great. Our server truly didn't want to be there, and you could tell. At times, she was rather rude; hopefully she was having a bad day.
We shared the banditos appetizer, which I thought had good flavor. I was torn between the club and the Reuben, and the server suggested the Club. It was good. I talked my father-in-law into trying the roasted Poblano Chicken Corn Chowder. It was good; but after living in the Southwest for 17 years now, and living with a chef who makes THE BEST Poblano Chowder in the world, I would have to say it comes in 3rd on my list, (Sam's Cafe also makes a good Poblano Chowder (another chain in the Southwest, unfortunately it is processed and no longer made from scratch).
Our son had the Pulled Pork and he loved it and the BBQ sauce.
Overall, the menu is much more unique and impressive than other restaurants in the area. All of our food was good. And hopefully the service is better the next time around. The decor reminds me of Hard Rock Cafe, which I happen to like, so I think that is cool.
My big negative is the name...'Effin'...I am not impressed...as a society we are becoming so relaxed with our language, and it was a disappointment to see such a creative menu and great food displaced with the establishment's name...in my opinion.
This place blew me away! Â Everything was absolutely delicious! Â It was especially nice that Effin Texas prepared all their own meats and sides! Â Too often I order pulled pork and I can tell it's from a bucket or at least not homemade. Â
I got the two meat combo which comes with two sides. I chose pulled pork with ribs along with sweet potato waffle fries and mac and cheese. Â The pulled pork was awesome, not too pulled and not too bathed in sauce. Â The ribs were great, lots of meat, not too much sauce again. Â These ribs were so big I thought I got a full rack of ribs, but it was only a half rack. Â Most places would have considered this the full rack. Â The sweet potato fries were a winner mostly because sweet potatoes are always awesome (the honey on top didn't hurt). Â Lastly the mac and cheese, maybe my least favorite, but still really good. Â They were mixed with ranch. Â I'm not a huge fan of ranch, but I am a huge fan of the cheese and bacon on top. Â Plus the portions are HUGE! Â Everybody brought something home and we all left happy.
The service was very friendly and accommodating. Â This is quite a feat considering what I've come to realize about certain members of our party. Â Apparently it is a common practice for people not to know what they want until the very second the server asks to write down their order. Â We pulled the server away from taking care of her other chores to take our order, then certain people didn't know what they wanted. Â This would irritate me if I were a sever, but didn't seem to phase our waitress. Â She was very polite and friendly. Â If Effin Texas wants to contact me I wouldn't mind letting them know who this person is, she was very good at what she does.
I'm not sure whose network I was on, but the FREE WiFi sure was nice for those of us who are forced to watch out data usage!!
Dropped into Corning for the glass museum, but wanted to eat first. Popped into Effin Grill & left very pleased. The decor and the menu were really fun. Waiter was very friendly & suggested the brisket. Mine was great. My husband got a very fatty piece, which was promptly replaced. Sides were creative and tasty. Blue cheese coleslaw, sweet potato waffle fries with honey butter, corn fritters, onion rings were all wonderful.
Will go back when we're in the area again & would definitely recommend.
My husband and I had been waiting for Effin Texas to open up ever since we spotted the sign on the storefront back in November, so we decided tonight would be a good night to check them out. The interior is bright and colorful, and the walls even have signed guitars up! The bar is on the first floor, the second and third floors have more tables than the first.
The menu featured a ton of unique dishes, so I settled on the half chicken, with mac & cheese, baked beans, and a square of jalapeno cornbread. My husband ordered the brisket sandwich, Guinness onion rings, mashed potatoes, and jalapeno cornbread. The food arrived in a decent amount of time, and our waiter didn't pester us constantly. Everything on my plate was delicious, but some of the food tasted a little bit like cinnamon or nutmeg. Oh well. The brisket was enormous, but lacked sauce. According to my date, the onion rings were "delicious and plenty", potatoes were "great, and I don't even usually like potatoes", cornbread was "awesome and unique". Overall, very tasty and large portions.
The service was good, considering the place was packed. The atmosphere was relaxed, and the music playing overhead was a lot of rock & roll. Prices are fair - our total came to about $27 for two sodas and two entrees.
We will definitely be coming here again.
