The grouper stuffed with shrimp was spot on. The piñon was delicious. The Ribs were tender and tasty. The mofungo was some of the best we've had on the island.

We came here on our last trip to Rincon 2 years ago and were not impressed. Since then, they have remodeled and have a new focus on authentic puerto rican cuisine.

Definately on the list of place you must visit in Rincon.

Hunting for dinner very very close to the Casa Islena on Highway 413, we lucked upon El Flamboyan.  This was probably our best meal in Rincon.  The menu includes a lot of traditional Puerto Rican fare, and we shared asapao de pollo and fish a la criolla.  The asapao was truly stunning, full-flavored and delicious without being overwhelmingly heavy, and the fish was delicious too.  The black beans that accompanied the fish were very salty, but that was just right to bring out the flavors in the rest of the dish.

It's also a great setting.  The inside of the building was papered in posters of leftist Latin American political figures.  Outside, there was a peaceful balcony immersed in a giant flowering tree.  [The balcony is lit by a glaring floodlight, but we got the waitress to turn off the light and let us use candles.]  Highly recommended.

Note that El Flamboyan can be a little difficult to find and I've seen very little reference to it on the internet.  If you get a copy of the $2 tourist map for sale all over Rincon (which you should!), it's on there.  Otherwise, leave Casa Islena driving west along the beach on 413 and stay on it as the road leaves the coast.  El Flamboyan will be badly lit, and on your right, with a big gravel/grass parking lot, and a sign pointing the wrong way.
