El Maguey happens to be one of the best Mexican restaurants I have eaten in a while. The food was authentic, the drinks were generous and what's more the service was stupendous! Despite the dinner rush hour our table was continuously provided with hot chips, salsa, our drinks were replenished and our food came on time.
The food was not the reheated kind that one gets in the chain restaurants. It was freshly cooked and served with a smile. Also those who waited to be seated were served their drinks. I took that as an indication that the manager ensured that the customers were taken care of the minute they stepped into the restaurant. This is a must visit restaurant in the area.
On my most recent visit, I got the fajitas. There was more than enough, and I ended up taking 2/3 of it home. There was plenty of meat, peppers, onions, and tomatoes all throughout. It came with refrained beans, lettuce, tomato, guac, and tortillas. A fantastic meal for the price. Of course, the tea is fantastic... But that's usual. Â The burritos were fantastic as well!
Review Source:For a Mexican restaurant on the highway, I really wasn't expecting much. And as soon as I walked in, all I could think of was how tacky the decor was. And the menu was huge. But the food, the food was amazing. Like authentic amazing. I left thinking the people of Exmore have an awesome restaurant on their hands.
Review Source:Did not expect to find a good Mexican restaurant on my way though here. The environment was great, lots of locals who all knew each other were eating lunch.
The chips and salsa and horchata were good and the huevos rancheros were delicious. The steak torta might've wasn't great and might've been better as a chicken torta but I definitely look forward to stopping by here again.
This is an excellent hole in the wall restaurant. Â I was weary at first then saw all the cars in the parking lot and agreed with my daughter that we should try it. Â So, my daughter and two grandkids did.
The food was authentic and outstanding. Â They gave us so much at a reasonable price. Â The children s meals were good too.
Anyone traveling 13 should stop and try it if you enjoy Mexican food.
For me, El Maguey is an unexpected diamond in the ruff located on what we know as the eastern shore/rte. 13.
Excellent prices, fast service and the food is awesome. I had a beef tip burrito. It was delicious. Their Mexican rice is superb also. I didn't feel like it had been sitting in the back and then warmed up immediately before serving. They also have, arguably, the best white sauce of any Mexican restaurant I have been to in Virginia.
The inside of the restaurant is pretty 'quaint'. The capacity is probably about 6 families (4-5 people each) but don't let that deter you. It looks like they have take out too. This place definitely made me feel like I was back home in San Diego. Still not Alberto's, but who's complaining? Not me.
El Maguey used to be the place to go after school, or to meet up with my friends from high school during the summer. It's conveniently located right on the highway in Exmore which is about the middle point of the shore, more or less. Their chicken soup is fabulous. It gets really crowded on weekends, especially seeing as they only have 10 tables. It's a great Mexican place, and was really the first one around that everybody got into.
