Worst Mexican restaurant I've ever been to.  My boyfriend and I ordered fajitas, and our skillets came out FAST.... one of those "that can't be good because it's too fast" moments.  Yea, well, our fajita fixings were all seasoned with TACO seasoning.  Um.... ok.... even I know that's something you aren't supposed to do when cooking Mexican.

Drink was weak, decor was cheesy.

I had an amazing experience at El Toreo Mexican Restaurant. The food was great  and the service was even better. I look foward to my next visit!

I must agree with many of the reviews....this is one of the worst Mexican restaurants I've eaten in....just flavorless food. The chile Relleno was just a pile of beef with a small piece of pepper and cheese on top...melted into a messy mass on the plate.  The Taco had meat and cheese....nothing else, no tomato, onion, lettuce.  In both cases, the meat appeared to be unseasoned. On the positive side, the free chips and salsa were actually quite good.

I recommend Taco bell which is almost next door and better.

This is a bad example of typical fast food tex mex. The margaritas were artificial tasting with vaguely a hint of tequila. The atmosphere is reminiscent of an abandoned Applebees. The guacamole doesn't taste like avocados and comes out like a strange green paste. Tacos were flavorless. The beans and rice tasted like they do in everyone on of these places. There is no reason to go here.

Wow - worst Mexican food in Valdosta!  Ordered fajitas for two and it arrived it had a skewer of shrimp sticking out out it like it was some kind of temple!  Terrible presentation and on top of that the shrimp had not been cleaned / deveined.  The manager told me that her cook said this was normal for their shrimp!  I have never had shrimp presented to me like this except in Valdosta Georgia.  The manager even told me and I quote  I will need to consult with my husband to see if this was acceptable - what? are you serious!  The chicken and beef served with fajitas were both dry and over seasoned.  The manager did apologize profusely and removed the shrimp from our bill.  Now I know why We don't frequent any of the restaurants here.

Just in  Valdosta for the night, and despite what the other reviews said, I had a good experience at El Toreo. The salsa was of the fresher variety, the service was very speedy, and the margaritas were pretty tasty.  I also had the chicken quesadilla which, although iit was cut into pieces (not the kind I was expecting), the chicken had a nice kick to it.  Server Amanda was very on top of things by always checking on me, graciously telling me about the hotspots in town when asked, and  most importantly, treating me like I was just as important as any larger table, even though I was just a party of one.  Only got 3 stars because there were no drink specials going on for a Friday night, and because the outside appeared to be more Mexican themed, when in reality it's more Tex-Mex, but I would definitely go back.

Stopped in Valdosta for the night. After checking into the hotel we went out in search of food and stumbled across El Toreo.

My lady had the Texas mango margarita and said it was pretty good. As for the food, the beef tacos were fine but nothing to rave about. The bottomless basket of chips with salsa was also a plus but beware; the salsa is extremely spicy.....

    Hi All,

Wow...just wow...the food here is absolutely awful.  I eat mexican food all over the country and this could be perhaps the worst I have had (next to laguardia airport Mexican place..but that is an airport)   This is my second time here.  I felt the same the first time  but I made an excuse that it was cinco de mayo...
No excuses this time.  The food deserves .5 stars.
However this is a fun place to drink, and the drinks are very good....so they get 1.5 stars for bar atmosphere.

If you are hungry for mexican food, go to taco bell around the corner, or change your food desire.

This is a place to go to drink with going friends...it can be loud and too hot...but then again, everything in southern Georgia is too hot and humid.

Closer to Mexico, doesn't necessarily mean the food is closer.  Again...yuck...

A cavalcade of obesity shoveling in mediocrity. Housed in what appears to be the abandoned shell of an Applebee's lies an obituary to Mexican cuisine. The melancholy "atmosphere" was occasionally shattered by blaring music, clapping employees and the ritual placement of a hat on the head of the lucky customer that managed to stave off a crippling heart attack for another year.  Those of you familiar with my reviews are acquainted with my technique of trying to compensate for lackluster food by increasing my alcohol consumption but sadly even the two fish bowels of "margaritas" I downed was unable to wash the permeating feeling of disappointment from my palate. The wait staff, while pleasant, have the hollow stare of impending suicide behind their eyes. (hang in there sisters there is hope. Start by firing the no talent gringos grinding out this soul sucking slop and replace them with some south of the boarded brothers to bring life back to the table)

El Toreo is a place that knows what it is and makes no apologies.  It understands that it is a generic tex mex establishment just this side of Taco Bell's border.  But it does the job well.

    - The requisite complimentary chips and salsa are crisp and spicy. I prefer tortillas and queso dip and order those with extra jalapenos every time.

    - The menu has a huge selection.  Even though combo plates are numbered up to #30 so you don't have to worry about pronunciation, you'll most likely want to shove the menu in your server's face and point to it when you order.  This is how it should be.

    - The service is fast and friendly.  The food is churned out of the kitchen and on your table in less than twenty minutes and good ol' Cholula brand hot sauce is available if you want it (I do).

    - Lastly, the drinks are strong.  The margaritas are of a good, respectable size and either there's enough tequila that you can taste it or it's just really bad tequila.  Either way, I'm happy (until the morning).

As people are wont to say in these parts, "It is what it is".  And it is good.

A group of us were visiting Moody Air Force Base for one night only, and looking for something different to eat in in the Valdosta area.  Specifcally a restaurant which we do not have in Sumter, SC.  El Toreo looked unique enough; the full parking lot on a Wednesday night was a good sign.

Well, there's nothing particularly unique about the restaurant; it has a bar, and a bunch of tables and TV's.  It's basically a Mexican Sports Bar.  A plate of complimentary chips and salsa was set at our table.  The salsa was way too spicy, I ate chips alone.

I ordered the Burrito Supremo a la carte.  It was massive; filled with steak, beans, sour cream, lettuce, and anything you else you can think of.  The $6 burrito certainly did the trick; I was stuffed and satisfied.

Good food & friendly service.  I enjoyed it.
