By far this is the BEST mexican resturant I've ever been to. The food is always made fresh. We had ordered guacamole for our chips and they brought all of the ingredients to us and made it fresh right there. The manager/owner came to our table and asked us how our food was, we old him it was phonomenal. He told us that everything is made fresh, because he treats everybody like they are family and he would want his family eating fresh food. And you could tell everything was fresh, cause it was so savory. The service was great too! I HIGHLY recommend this resturant if you are feeling like some good mexican food, and even if you don't like mexican food you should eat here, lol!

Too bad the bar is wheelchair inaccessible. Sorry handicap people not welcome.

I came here for Sunday brunch and loved it! They have a big selection at the buffet and good drinks. The Cadillac margarita was really good. Also the green posole was intense, I've never tried anything like it. Reasonable price considering it's a buffet. They have ladies making tortillas by hand and a taco bar. Service was good too. Waiters were constantly checking on us and picking up our dirty plates.

Last Time we have a gathering there!

Booked a party there a month in advance.  Arrived, they decided to bump our reservation for another party.  Food was not ready (buffet style), missing items from our list of food that was supposed to be available.  Served taquitos w/o guacamole, who does that?  Waitress was awesome & kicked butt however, the mgmt did not impress.  Too sad, as we had good previous visits here.  Tacked on a 20% gratuity tax that was hidden in the contract & only admitted after being questioned about it.

    Solid 3 stars.

Last time I went here for lunch I wasn't too impressed. But this last night we went as a family and the service was on point, and the food was simple, but actually pretty good.

There was no wait, which is always a plus, and smiles greeted us from the front desk to the table. When we left the manager held the door opened for us and nicely said please come back soon. I like that.

I had the combo with rice and beans, enchilada, and a beef taco. It was enough food that I took half of it home. (Perhaps that had something to do with me eating an entire bowl of chips and salsa myself?Maybe...)  Yes, the chips kept coming without us having to ask, as did the drink refills.

My only complaint was my plate of food was not hot enough for me, and the cheese was barely melted? I like my food scorching hot. But the flavors were good and I enjoyed the enchilada made with a thick tortilla and a rich sauce- not too spicy. Hubs got the fajitas, and they WERE sizzling and very good, too. Kidlets were happy with their burritos, rice, and beans.

I would go back again for a family dinner. Its not earth-shattering, but it was comfortable, friendly and serviceable food that was, ultimately, a crowd-pleaser.

Its ok , they used to have a much better happy hour.  Used to be better drink prices and 1/2 off on appetizers in the bar.  Since then they changed it to $3 off appetizers and raised drink prices.  I wish they would do the same as OC, I read OC El torito's have $3 margaritas and domestic beer during HH.  I hang out at other places alot more now since it is not as good here as before.

We have been regulars here for years. It's the only chain restaurant that we frequent. First they take away the lunch buffet, then they start pulling items off the menu, and finally they start buying cheaper quality ingredients.  During our last visit we had very poor service,  and there were only a few tables at lunchtime on a Friday. This place is going downhill fast! Our waiter was also the bartender, so he had to run back and forth. Needless to say, our experience was not good and we waited forever to get anything and were constantly out of drinks and chips. Boo!!! I predict they will be out of business in less than 12 months if they don't change something. Good luck guys.

Right from the start the service is attentive and courteous! The complimentary salsa is incredible, and don't miss the seasonal salsas! We tried all of them-the ghost pepper is no joke! Drinks were the average, my only complaint-it was hard to get the waitress back to our table for more drinks and extras...

I came here to have dinner with my family. Turns out I'm not the biggest fan of their food, however, the service and our waiter were fantastic.

I ordered the Trio Special, which is an appetizer, entree, and dessert for $11.99.

I ordered the Tortilla Soup, which wasn't like any other tortilla soup I've had before. It was jam packed with squashes and potatoes, and a smidgen of cheese. It seemed more like a minestrone.

I ordered the crispy taco and chicken enchilada. The taco wasn't very good. The chicken enchilada was okay. I wish they'd have some spicier salsa options.

I ordered the ice cream. Which I loved. How can you not like deep fried ice cream with tortilla strips dusted with cinnamon and sugar?!

It's not my top place to go for Mexican food, but if you're looking for Margaritas and a taco night try it out.

Went here on a Friday night to have dinner with my Mom. We have been going to this location for years, but not after this visit.
We got seated right away, which was great for a busy night..but that was the end of the "great dining experience!"

    PROS:
    -convenient location
    -got seated right away

    CONS:
    - hostess needed training and had the biggest attitude.
    - hostess first said, okay, "I will seat you right away" but then made us stand there. we decided to sit down, she never took our name so I asked her if she would like to take our name down since they looked like they weren't ready. She replied back with the biggest attitude with "I WILL SEAT YOU NOW!"
    - our waiter was a guy name Edgar, tried to be sweet...but all his mistakes didn't make up for it.
    - when taking the order, he repeated our orders twice, and everything was correct.
    - when the order came out, he got my order wrong. I told him he gave me the wrong stuff, but said.. ohh but that is what I wrote down. When in fact, he didn't even bother to look back at what he wrote down.
    - The sweet corn cake is something that I look forward to everytime I go to an El Torito.... but this time, it was spoiled and already tasted "spoiled and sour." Edgar once again said that he would get me a new serving when they make a new batch...but never happened.
    - Then he didn't want to take our "survey" discount....because by the "discount code" that was given from the online survey, we weren't happy with how things were and he didn't want to have a bad score!

    - so bad service, bad food....HORRIBLE! NEVER COMING BACK!

I enjoyed coming here for Taco Tuesdays but there's only 3 choices of meat, carnitas, chicken, and asada. Tacos here compared to other El Torito locations are better but why raise the prices of the tacos. Now its $1.50 per taco no longer 99 cents for one.
It has a bar area that is always crowded and karoke going on, loud music, and bouncers standing outside checking for ID. Hard to enjoy eating there when its so loud.

Spent my birthday this past Saturday Feb 9th , 2013 at El Torito with friends and family and although Ive been there several times it was a first for a lot of the people with me. The food was very good, the drinks excellent and the service rocked. It happened to be th KJ's birthday too (so we helped him celebrate too.) we were at the tables to the right of the bar but the doors were open as several of ourmembers of our  party happen to  love karaoke. And MY 84 year old Nana (actually my best friends of 30 plus years) was the belle of the ball and treated so sweetly by everyone. She is still so excited about it.Will definitely bring her back when she is down again from the I.E.I have to say that besides all the service personnel, the patrons inside the bar and restaurant were some of the nicest people Ive ever met. I normally go on Fridays when I go for karaoke but will also now go on Saturdays. A great neighborhood feel with excellent service. Thank you El Torito for making my birthday a GREAT One!

I've enjoyed my experience in other El Torito's, but I will not go back to this specific one!  I usually order the Mex Fix which in my experiences has been great.  When I got my order everything looked like it's been sitting out for a while, the avocado was brown...just gross, taquitos were dry.  The only thing on that platter that came out decent was the quesadilla.  I did not make a big deal out of it cause that's not what I do, I rather write a review to let people know to think twice or even three times before eating at this location.  Don't want to give the brand El Torito a bad name cause i've had good experiences in different locations but this one in West Covina...BEWARE!!!  Service was ok, I had to walk to the waitress for my check but oh well.

Decent food, lunch specials are pretty cheap and tasty..however, the food takes FOREVER to come out.  I dunno if its cuz we're always here with a big group..but there was only a handful of people in the restaurant when we were there during lunch and it took so long to get our food that i filled up on the chips and salsa already.  The servers are very friendly..but they really need to improve the time it takes to deliver the entrees.

It seems like their food portions are getting smaller and smaller. The food tasted as if it had been sitting under the heat lamp for a while; however, the manager did end up making it right.

Really concerned when you go into a restaurant on a Saturday night at 730pm and you see the following: one bartender for a bar full of people, EXTREMELY loud music that I mean you couldn't have a conversation if you wanted (which is fine for 9pm or on, but I mean come on during dinner hour?), the dining room was mostly empty, and then the hostess says it will be a 15 minute wait. As we sat there I grew more and more concerned, being a restaurant manager myself for a few years, I know that that means. Either the random chance that multiple people call in sick that night, or they didn't have the staff to support the size of the restaurant, or they didn't schedule them correctly. Either way it didn't matter, after about 5 minutes of waiting I decided it would be best for us to just leave and go somewhere else. So we did...probably won't come back here again!

Another Happy Hour fail! Came here last week with my bff and it was horrible. We made it on time for the happy hour and decided to take advantage of the discounted food and drink. We sat in the cantina and we were promptly given our chips and salsa, you'd think we would have prompt service throughout our dining experience but nope! The waitress overlooked us and waited on some other people next to us that came in after us. Finally the waitress came and took our order, we ordered margaritas and the sampler platter. 15-20 minutes later our drinks and food came out (like seriously) the margarita is a pre-mix of watery crappy tequila and the platter is just your typical tex-mex bland nachos, taquitos, wings and enchiladas. We asked the waitress to bring us a beer as the margaritas were not satisfying at all. It took her another 10-15 minutes to pour a glass of beer. All this while the r

Last Saturday my neighbor invited me to come hang out with her and some friends. I had been working a LOT of hours lately and still had to work the next morning but I decided to not be a 'poopy-head' and go hang out anyway.

We were arrived around 7:00pm the place is not crowded at all. We went into the bar to meet her friends and Edgar our server (with the dimples) immediately talked me into trying out the night special "Smooth Margarita" well I am not a Margarita girl HOWEVER I DO BELIEVE i had about 5 of 'dem bad boys... and a shot or 2 of Tequila. So much for being shy meeting her new friends!! LOL

Ordered the sampler and it was meh not as great as my Margarita. They had Karaoke, I always get a kick out of Karaoke. Overall Service was fine and food (on the whole) was just meh. I'll be going back for the Maggie's alone! BTW Parking is ample out front this place is right off of the 10 fwy next to the old Charlie Browns (which is now a Hooters)

I actually like coming here for the food as apposed for the drinks! Hahaha i know hard to believe!
My best friend and I come here often and we love the spicy chicken tacos. We tried the lunch buffet since we had a 10 dollar off coupon and it was YUM!
Everything was actually pretty decent and good although i can't speak for the pork and beef dishes since i don't eat red meat but my BFF was very happy with those!
Being a Mexican restaurant there isn't much of a beer selection expect for Mexican beer and the usual suspect on American beers. I recommend that u get yourself the Dos Equis Amber or a classic margarita!
Service has always been excellent! Every time i go whether its with my BFF or boyfriend I've had always had super attentive service! Bartenders are really friendly and nice! Enjoy!

It's a chain, but it's solid. This location is very clean and well-maintained. The service was great as well. Our server was liberal with the refills and always kept our chip and salsa bowl full, much to my chagrin.

I didn't order anything typically Mexican here. My fella and I shared some chicken wings and fajitas. The dishes were solid and came out quickly and piping hot. My favorite part of most meals at El Torito is the corn cake that comes on ever entree plate. That stuff is yummy. Like a sweet corn tamale, only smaller. Yum.

Good restaurant if you're in a pinch and there is plenty of room for large parties, which is nice for celebrating birthdays and such. They also often advertise coupons in the paper. Definitely worth a trip for a deal.

Went for happy hour and got the happy hour margarita special, they were well made. I was surprised they didn't water them down. Also I got the chicken quesadilla and it was really delicious. The chicken was well seasoned and its one of the best quesadillas I've had especially at chain restaurants

Only bad thing was our server was busy with too many other tables

I'd defiantly go back for the chicken quesadillas especially for the happy hour price.

    Taco Tuesdays!

In order to participate in this "weekly special", each person MUST purchase a drink (soda, iced tea, etc...).  Oh, and NO REFILLS on the drinks.  However, you do get bottomless chips and salsa.

The Steak Tacos were yumm-O!  You get the choice of chicken (pollo), pork (carnitas), and steak (carne asada).  I was surprised at how small the tacos are for 99 cents.... not to mention the very SMALL amount of meat they put in your flour tortilla.  By the way, they make the flour tortillas right there in front of you.

I would avoid coming here after 7p because it gets PACKED and good luck on finding an open table!  The tacos here just aren't worth the long wait in my opinion.  If you're content on eating 4 tacos and your partner is content on 8, then make sure you just order the 13 tacos all at once.

We made the mistake of ordering 8 tacos the first time and then another 4 the second time.  That second time had me standing in line for nearly 15 minutes!  I was already full by then.  Ugh.

Service was efficient.  We had a nice gentleman who kept checking up on us and making sure our chips and salsa were refilled.  Oh, and the salsa was "off the chain"!  Love, love, love!!!  Right amount of kick and flavor.  The chips were quite nice, too.  But... don't get too full off of bottomless chips and salsa now!

I come here often for champagne brunch on Sundays. Buffet selection is good Mexican food. You won't be disappointed. The servers are always very friendly. There can be a very long wait time for brunch so be prepared on any given Sunday. If there is a long wait make sure to check the bar area because it is open seating.

Overall, I am not a huge fan of El Torito but since it was right next door to where we were staying, we decided to walk on over, enjoy a couple of drinks and have some dinner. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised.

There was a group of about 15 of us and we walked in and seated ourselves inside the bar. Surprisingly it was not crowded at all which really helped some irritable parents and some hungry kids.

Usually with large groups, something typically gets misplaced or ordered incorrectly. I cannot say that happened this time as the service was impeccable. We were greeted immediately with chips and salsa and the flow kept coming as we sat there. The drink orders took a little longer than we expected but once that began....again, it seemed to have a good flow to it all. I'm talking the service, not the drinks. The Cadillac Margarita was around $8 so no complaints there as it hit the spot after a long day on the fields.

The food? Well it is typical ET food. IMO there is nothing that really stands out here. I know they do their best to be an authentic Mexican restaurant but it is missing on a few cylinders. I ended up going with the carnitas fajitas and was happy with my meal other than some of the carnitas being a little fatty.

    Food: 2
    Service: 5
    Chips and Salsa: 4
    Decor: 3
    Convenience: 4

I've never rated an ET this high but because of the service we received on the night we were there, they are getting a 3.6.

I marvel at the fact that this place stays in business. Were it not for the Happy Hour and Sunday Brunch, I doubt they would. I used to waitress at an El Torito location that has long since been closed, so I remember a thing or two about the quality of service and food. Granted, we are talking about a faux-Mexican restaurant chain, but even by those standards, this place is just appalling.

I've visited a few times in the last year or so for Happy Hour, being that my office is located nearby. The one thing that warrants them my return visits is their Taco Tuesday-I think it's about a dollar per taco, and you can fill them yourself. To me, paired with a 3 dollar margarita, beer, or glass of wine, this is a good enough way to pass the afternoon with co-workers or pals.

On every visit, I've been sitting in the Cantina section and have had excruciatingly slow service, but, given that their Taco Tuesdays are heavily attended, I've just dealt with it.

Yesterday, I got a last minute call from some girlfriends who were meeting up there for happy hour on a Thursday. I decided to swing by and join them after work for a drink and some dinner. When I arrived, I joined them at their table and they were one round of drinks in. We waited a considerable amount of time for our server to return before I got up and retrieved a menu myself. No biggie, I did arrive late. The waitress finally came around and took my order for a Bohemia. After 15 minutes or so, she brought out the bottle, covered in ice, and placed it on the table. She then asked me, "You don't need a glass, do you?" Huh?! Is that really the way to approach a customer, to insinuate that bringing them a glass would be a burden to you?

After flagging her down another 15 minutes later to place a food order, I asked for an item off the Chef's Special Menu, a Garden Shrimp Salad which is advertised to contain shrimp skewers, avocado, strawberries, pineapple, asparagus, and crisp lettuce. I asked for the smaller portion, which was advertised as being 3 dollars cheaper than the entree size, and she repeated my order.

When my salad was delivered more than 40 minutes later, it contained neither avocado, nor strawberries, nor pineapple. The lettuce was anything but crisp, rather limp, soggy, and shredded too thinly to even be punctured by my fork. I was dismayed but unsurprised. We were able to flag down a busboy, to whom I politely explained that my salad was missing many of it's ingredients, and could I please just have some brought to me on the side? He said he needed to get my server. A few moments later, a waitress (not ours) came and I again explained my predicament. She brought me a bowl of avocado. No strawberries, no pineapple. At this point I was so ravenous that I simply ate the shrimp, avocado, and asparagus and a bit of soggy lettuce. I know I should have sent the food back, but with one beer on an empty stomach I didn't want to drive around looking for food (low blood sugar issues).

Our waitress did not return to our table for at least another 45 minutes. Our drinks were all empty, and we might have ordered more, had we not been left sitting unattended all afternoon. We flagged down yet another busboy and asked for our check, and when it arrived, lo and behold, I had been charged for the full sized salad.

At this point we asked for the manager, and my diplomatic friend explained our situation. I told him I just wanted the amount lowered to pay for the salad I asked for initially so that we could leave. He did not offer any special retributions for the level of service we were given, but to his credit removed the unwarranted charge for the salad and lowered it to the correct price without seeming begrudging.

Needless to say, I left no tip, which I NEVER ever do. I consider myself a fairly generous guest, and as a former server myself I more than willingly over-tip hard working waitstaff. The service at El Torito is scandalous. I will never return.

Don't get me wrong this place isn't that bad for food.  However, it's a principle issue.  They have a Happy Hour which is worth coming for.  So what's my problem?

My cousin is visiting from out of the country and was on Vacation.  He has an ID card from his home country and of course in order to come over to the US you have to show your ID.

Apparently, you can come into the country through immigration with the ID card but you can't be served a beer with a world recognized form of ID at El Torito.  He had no problem being served at other places while he was visiting, but this Mexican restaurant "El Torito"

El Torito, my cousin who was visiting Mexico is more Authentic than you!!!

We came here with the family to celebrate my fiance birthday over the weekend, and were in disgust how bad the service was. We honestly should have gone to hooters instead but decided to stick it out.

The waiters at this location have nothing better to do but walk around pretending to be active to avoid taking food orders. Needless to say we waited 10 minutes to place drink orders. We waited another 15 to take a food order after the fact we told the waiter we were ready to place an order for food when our drinks came. The waiter carelessly handled our drinks spilling and making a mess. The service was so bad I got up and walked over to the manager to explain how horrible everything was going, and he attempted to resolve everything.

The food here is a joke, we ordered guacamole and it was flavorless, it must not be avocado season or something. We ordered the Taste of the seasons, Chicken Flautas and Beef Taquitos Combo, and Chicken and Sour Cream Enchilada & Beef Crispy Taco, with tortilla soup. The food really was lacking on everything, the only thing that had some flavor was the chicken flautas.

Finally, El Torito management has no excuse for what happen, and this is not a place I will ever come to celebrate a birthday again. That being said, there are many restaurants on the main blvd that have better services and food... Do not waste your time coming here!

    Just a fan for
    1) no lines -- virtually. I hope it does not close down.
    2) beer!
    3) endless salsa and chips. Chips are mediocre, salsa is good.
    4) pretty attentive servers. Since very few customers esp on weeknights
    5) Birthday meal for free! One entree of your choice.

Not fan of the portions. Seem smaller in recent months. I got the flaming fajitas supremas skillet., one of the most $$$ item on the menu and it came up to  about $18 for a few shrimps, beef and chicken strips.  I don't count tortilla or beans since they are cheaper items. I remember being SO full i had to share the skillet supremas in the past, but now I stare down whoever is trying to eat my shrimp. Don't touch! I don't have enough!! At least the quick flaming show they put on while they light up your skillet in front of you is something worth paying for...maybe.

The $4 something Thursday Margaritas in recent weeks is not too bad but the margaritas need more punch to it. The mango one is good, not strong enough for me with one shot.

Overall i worry this place will close because it is really slow, has always been when i visit.  Just taking advantage of whatever deals that come along now! Currently the best will be the 3-Course $11.99 meal (of course selected items) Get the Deep Fried Ice Cream! The tortilla strips give an awesome crunch to the vanilla in this dessert that is both warm and cold.

I came by for Happy Hour one evening with a few friends and ordered some margaritas and appetizers. I ordered a delicious strawberry margarita, and my friend and I split a Fiesta Platter.  The Fiesta Platter comes with buffalo wings, flautas, quesadillas, sopes, and nachos. I didn't care much for the buffalo wings, but everything else was pretty good.

The margarita wasn't very strong, but still it was good. So I've obviously learned that El Torito is stingy with their tequila, oh well. The chips and salsa are very good too. My biggest complaint of the evening would be that both waitresses that attended my party were quite bad. The first waitress couldn't enter our order into the computer, so had the other waitress come and help us. The 2nd waitress couldn't correctly split our bill or count and return change correctly, so yea very annoying!!!!!

Besides the not so great waitresses and weak drinks, I like El Torito alright. The atmosphere is nice and I would come by for Happy Hour again with some friends if I'm in the area. If it isn't Happy Hour or Taco Tuesday I don't really think it's worth it. It's pretty pricey otherwise.

I could sit here and just eat their chips and salsa all day.

Dropped by on a Wednesday night w/ a party of 11 during happy hour. I never knew they had happy hour from 4pm-8pm. That's 4 hours of half priced drinks and appetizers. Cool, so here's what we ordered...

2 Fiesta Platters: Comes w/ pretty tasty buffalo wings, all right flautas, decent quesadillas, decent sopes, and semi-decent nachos.

    1 Chicken Quesadilla: Good.

    2 Steak Quesadilla: Good.

2 Cantina combos: Come w/ buffalo wings and flautas.

2 House Margarita and 1 Grande House Margarita: Strong.

2 strawberry margarita: Strong, can hardly taste the strawberry flavor.

In my opinion the highlight of this trip would be the strong drinks, buffalo wings, quesadillas, and chips and salsa.

Came today with the family. There was a lot of discussion about where to go for dinner, but a quick fix meal is definitely at El Torito. Happy hour is a great place to just relax and wind down after a long day out.

El Torito is a really unique place. They allow people under the age of 21 to join in at bar for happy hour. We ordered 7 plates of food for 12 people. Seems like a little, but there was enough food to pass around and then enough to bring back home.

The Fiesta Platter is well worth it. Everything at happy hour is half off (but there is only a few items). The Fiesta platter comes with Buffalo Wings, Flautas, Nachos, Quesadillo, AND Sopes for only $5.49. What a deal! The quesadillo are pretty good with the right amount of cheese and meat.

Value alone deserves a 5 stars, but this visit was less than perfect. First of all, when we asked if there was a table for 12 open for happy hour, they placed us in an isolated part of the restaurant. Secondly, the service was a bit slow. I mean, I understand they are busy, but half an hour for napkins is a pretty long wait. Last of all, some of the food was not as good as other locations. The flautas were soggy and the presentation of the food was just not there.

My guy was on a business trip and ordered take out dinner from here prior to going back to his hotel.  He told me to "Light 'em up" on Yelp it was so bad!!  We remember when El Torito actually had good food, but not anymore!

The Macho Combo w/a shredded beef taco, chile rellano, chicken item and rice & beans, side of tortilla soup and coke was ordered. When he returned to eat this meal, everything was mashed together in the take out box with no care taken to separate anything.  The tortilla soup was completely missing from the bag all together (inspite of asking if it was in the bag) and the coke was completely forgotten about as well.  I guess they pour the soda when you come to pick it up to keep it from getting watered down, which is good, but not if you forget it!!

Regarding taste, he could hardly eat anything, it was of such poor quality.  The beef taco was about the only edible thing he could eat out of the other items that were hardly identifiable since they were all thrown together!  The chile rellano was mushy, the chicken item w/white sauce had very dry meat and was bleh!   Beans were runny and flavorless.  Rice was OK, except very cold. Basically a craptastic dinner, no wonder he returned home starved!

Another lesson learned in check your bags before you leave, inspite of asking an employee if the soup was inside!!

How does this place survive?  And for ~$20 and more than half of what you ordered missing, there are way better choices out there than this!

Remember when El Torito had the BEST quality mexican food you've ever tasted?? ....Me either.

It's freaking El Torito. I went last night after work (Sunday), and the place was dead. Dead I tells ya! Perhaps you're thinking "It's because you went to El Torito!!", but you are wrong sir. It used to be super busy, especially on Sunday night. Is it that nobody has money to eat out anymore? Or the quality of food has gotten even worse? I say both. But mostly the second reason.

Two of us shared the jumbo fajita combo and they bring out only 3 tortiLLas. Three?? We can always ask for more, no big. But then I noticed the tortiLLa soups that we ordered had no soup in it. What the.. okay. That's not cool. They stacked a big pile of tortilla strips over the almost non-existent soup. The guacamole was a smaller portion than what I remember.

Whatev. We left full, the tab was decent. It's all good. The bottom line is that this location has turned from OK fake Mexican food to MEH fake Mexican food.

The Cadillac Margaritas however, are still yummy. Slurp.
