nice place!
I'd never heard of this chain before visiting California, and I wish I'd tried it earlier in my visit.  Very varied menu, it was nice to see a lot of dishes that were actually healthy. i had the Seared Tuna Salad and it was incredible.  Staff was very nice and stopped by to check on me  (and refill water! yay!!!) when I needed them, but weren't intrusive.  so many interesting things on the menu, that I want to go back with a big group so we can order a ton of different things!
Only complaint was my cocktail was on the weak side. But hey, maybe i'm just used to places that mix them on the strong side.
Hostess was very friendly on both times ive been here. My first time here it took us 20mins to get water, as our waiter was messing around in the back, which when knew when we saw him getting chewed out by his manager. The manager was very apologetic, which i respect because apologizing for others is not easy. Our waiter was alright afterwards, just alright. The food is my big issue, as i am not a fan. For me its one of the restaurants were you look at the menu and you just dont see anything "pop" that you tell yourself you have to try. The food is alright, not amazing, but alright, but there are many other places very close that you could go to instead for the same price. Would i recommend it? No.
Review Source:Brought my mom here for her 63rd birthday and sat in the bar area. The bartender was very nice, although the drinks were okay. We ordered some cocktails with our side dish and thought that everything could've been better and stronger. Our fried string beans were a bit burnt, but eatable. Overall, we had a nice time.
Review Source:First, our hostess and server were efficient and courteous. Our waitress was very accomodating when we notified her of the following DISGUSTING and unsanitary issues: one of the children's water glasses had something cloudy floating in it. After a new glass was brought, it had an unpleasant, foul taste. One of the other girls had a piece of jalapeño in her strawberry shortcake. Finally, LUCKILY, I ordered the whipped cream to my mud pie on the side because there was some disgusting, GROSS, slimy SOMETHING in it. (Check out the PHOTO of it that I posted...CAUTION...it's DISGUSTING!) When the waitress asked the manager to come over, he was "apologetic" but came across as disbelieving about the water and jalapeño.  Unfortunately my friend handed over the weird disgusting slimy thing (?) to the manager as I would have love to have had it analyzed! As we were leaving he asked to speak to me, but I declined and opted instead to use my TRUSTY "YELP" to DISCOURAGE ANYONE FROM EATING THERE! I can excuse & overlook a LOT, but don't take a chance on slimy "surprises" in your food!!!
Review Source:Had dinner there Sunday evening after a ballgame, Stockton Ports. Â Place is clean and comfortable. Â Service was great. Â Wife had the ribeye steak and prawns. Â Ribeye was cooked perfectly and very tender, terrific. Â I had the seared ahi tuna with a salad. Â Tuna was seared just right and was very good. Â Little one had chicken marsala and that was really good also. Â Overall great food and service at a reasonable price.
Review Source:I LOVE ELEPHANT BAR! Â whenever i'm in stockton and is having happy hour with my sisters or my girls, this is the number one spot that we go to! Â great drinks and great happy hour selections! Â cheap and yummy, what more can you ask for! Â the korean tacos, to the coconut shrimp skewers...all time favorite! Â will and always will have them our number 1 happy hour spot! Â great enivornment and servers are nice!
Review Source:And I only gave it 1 star because you can't give it a zero. "Elephant Bar" doesn't even deserve 1 star. Sadly because they have the worst management ever and the worst Servers EVER! No but thats not it. Let me tell you how my HORRIFIC Mothers Day Dinner went...
Walking in the Hostesses were nice they greeted us with smiles and didn't look like they had the worst day ever just like the servers that helped us did. After waiting for an entire hour to be seated because we were a party of 14 . 7 adults and 7 kids
we finally get seated..let me say the restaurant was nearly empty.. And voila.. that's where hell breaks loose. Sarah and Kyle were rude and really unprofessional from the start. If u ask me honestly I felt like they were discriminating against my table. Maybe because we had alot of kids and they were already fussy from the long wait and it was already 8 pm when we got seated. To sum it up.. Drinks were never refilled. They forgot to take my sister in law and her kids order at the end of the table .. Food was cold.. And tables were never PRE-BUSSED! Like holy mother of Jesus. I was thinking I wanted to scream at the top of my lungs that's how HORRIFIC it was. I felt like I was having a nightmare. And on top of that. I guess they were off the clock in the middle of us getting served and transferred our table over to Tara. Which the "MANAGER" or kyle and Sarah never once came to our table to let us know that they were transferring it over to Tara. So for awhile we had no idea who to ask for refills or to see what's going on with my sister in laws food which her kids were screaming because our food was served and they were watching us eat because our server Sarah and Kyle forgot about their food! After we are all done eating I get up from my chair To tell Sarah  who was standing at the computer with Kyle and the manager doing nothing when we are over here swallowing our food dry with nothing to drink. I told her "do you guys believe in PRE-bussing tables"? And the unprofessional manager that was running the floor said to Sarah "don't worry about that right now, print the tickets". Yes he said that right in front of my face! I wanted to scream even more! Like what manager does that? Isn't a manger suppose to address the issue? Isn't that his job? I mean why do they pay him, right? Wow is all I got to say. I heard that he's a new manger .. Round of applause to Dean who hired that manager. You sure know how to pick them! Smh.. It was time to go and we got the "I'm so sorry" story from Kyle and Sarah. Which they were blaming it on the manager the whole entire time. Save it. I don't wanna hear that. There's your tip and money. You said you were off the clock to handle our table's needs. Yet, u weren't off the clock to collect the bill? Yuck, I'm so disgusted by their service there! Never again will I eat there! Really feel sorry for elephant bar! I honestly feel you guys won't go far. Thanks for making my
MOTHERS DAY DINNER A LIVING HELL! And for all you readers who are reading this! DO NOT EAT HERE! Spend your money somewhere else. Your not missing out on anything from this restaurant. For crying out loud I think the only good thing they got going on in the restaurant are the Cooks and hostesses that's all!!
I decided to write this review solely based on the kindness bestowed upon me by the bartender that ran out of the restaurant just to give me my purse that I stupidly left behind. Â You rock female bartender working Thursday, March 19th around 6 pm.
This was the second time I have eaten here. Â The first time was for lunch. Â I had a salad-and for those of you trying to eat healthy yet bored by the same ol' boring salads, it was good...so good I almost ate the rest of the huge salad in the car on the way home! Â And I eat A LOT...so for me not to eat the whole salad is luda. Â Moving on...
The second time was for happy hour. My boyfriend got the lettuce wraps and I got the fresh spring (summer?) rolls...you know, the ones with the rice paper wrapper. Â The food was pretty damn good...especially for Stockton. Â The only reason I gave 4 was because the drinks were way overpriced (even on hh) and they had a limited beer and wine list. Â They could a lot with the place as far as making it trendier...especially with Delta right across the street and UOP less than 10 min. away. Â So tell me why the place was never more than 10% full?
Update review for Happy Hour only!
This place has pretty damn good drink options for their Happy Hour! From $3-$5 you have the options of a Mojito, Mai Tai, Sangria Blanco, Margarita, and much more. Their drinks are well made and they have some pretty cheap food options. Will definitely be coming here more often to get my mid-evening buzz on. They also have non-alcoholic happy hour options too.
Nice staff and fast service. Usually pretty empty so you can sit up by the bar!
I'd give it a 3 for happy hour, but I'm going to have to give it a 2 for dinner. The whole dining experience was just meh. The food is alright, but it's expensive for what you get. The service is slow (even when they're overstaffed with a few diners). Our waiter didn't even give us water. When I go out, I like to have a great dining experience (food, service, the whole shebang).
I do recommend it for happy hour, but I don't recommend it for any other time. Just not worth it.
If this review was just based on their normal dining, then they would only get 1 star! But since they have such a cheap happy hour, I'm willing to bump them up a star. :)
I kept hearing that Elephant Bar wasn't any good. Most people I knew told me that it either wasn't good or just wasn't worth the price. Hearing comments like these really deterred me from trying it. I got a coupon in the mail so I figured I'd give this place a try and see if it really was that terrible.
Just based on first impression, I thought the restaurant itself was really nice. However, service wasn't as great. Our server kept switching which was sort of odd. As for the food, just by looking at the menu I could already tell that the food was gonna be bad. Why would you go to Elephant Bar to eat sweet & sour chicken or Mongolian beef when you can go elsewhere, pay much less, and have it actually cooked by a skilled Chinese cook. It just doesn't make sense in my opinion.
I ended up going with the Pacific Cove Tropical Crab and Shrimp Louie. Wow, one of the most DISGUSTING salads I've ever had! They seriously need to take this off their menu. All the flavors in the salad did not mix well together. The crab was flavorless and the shrimp were minuscule. So not worth the $14 they're charging for this garbage. I think I could've made myself a better salad at home.
Because my experience was so bad, I decided that I'd probably never come back again. But one day I heard about their happy hour deals so I decided to give them a second chance. Their happy hour is so much better! Maybe because the prices are way more affordable and not a complete rip off. The Three Cheese Macaroni ($3.50) and Chicken & Lettuce Wraps ($5.50) are not bad but stay clear of the Soy Ginger Calamari. It was not good at all. The fried calamari was soggy and clumped together. They also have fairly cheap drinks compared to other happy hour places. Just for $5 you can get a super tall glass of Long Island Iced Tea.
E-bar's where it's at, yo!
The food's ai'ght.
The service is slow.
The drinks are strong.
Only go for the happy hour. Otherwise, you'll be terribly disappointed.
Here's the key to a successful happy hour:
1. Get a Long Island ice tea for $3 first. Drink that and get a buzz.
2. Then get the salmon tempura rolls for $5 and the lettuce wraps for $4
The food is definitely lacking, and a little buzz certainly will help. However, the buzz may NOT help with the long wait times if you anger easily.
Oh well, remember, LIQUOR FIRST, then food and you'll be a happy, angry camper!
Elephant bar is just nooo good. Â Everything is just so pricey for mediocre food. Â I got a jambalaya one time and that was probably one of the worst dishes I've ever tried at a restaurant. Â Got a burger another time with a coupon and I still felt like it was too expensive. Â Service wasn't that great either. Â The asian fusion food looked like absolute crap. Â NOO Thank you. Â I will eat chinese food at a chinese restaurant, not here. Â Also, the tv screens at the bar were very awkwardly paced so I had to basically turn my entire body just to watch the NBA playoffs. Â
I would give this place a 1 star but the extra star comes from a good happy hour that is pretty cheap. Â The mac and cheese is definitely very tasty and only costs 3 bucks i think at happy hour. Â Also, the drinks were cheap as well. Â I can say the long island iced tea comes in a very tall glass.
First visit: My whole experience here was horible but I am not against giving them another chance. First our waitress told us her life story about how she received her name "Kosi". Then they messed up my order twice and by the time I got my meal we were ready to go. They were apologetic and removed the meal from our tab. We were also given two free item coupons. The service was okay but they were very confused.
Last visit: I gave them another shot and used my free coupons on a cob salad. Looks can be deceiving. I waited 45 minutes for a salad and when it can out it was smaller than I had remembered. The waitress was rude and rushed us out when we were done eating. I will not come here again. No more chances.
When you take into account the facts that we were 1; seated within 2 minutes; 2 had drinks with in 5 minutes and 3; had excellent service from our server Mychau, thoughout our meal, it's easy to go 4 on this place. Â
We had varied dishes, a large crab shrimp Pacific combo, a Chicken dish and a shrimp combo dish, all well satisfying and very good. Â One more thing the orders or garlic bread are warm and also a good accompiamnet to our dinners.
Excellent service, good food and reasonable bar prices, what's not to like?
I only go during their happy hour. Â Monday through Friday, 3pm-7pm and 9pm-closing everyday!
I recommend their Mai Tai ($4), SKYY Vodka Raspberry Lemon Drop Martini ($5), and Classic Mojito ($4)...at happy hour price.
Food: Yummy sweet potato fries ($3 during happy hr) Everything else is so meh... Â Garlic noodles with shrimp tastes like wet pad thai; nothing compared to Crustacean's garlic noodle. Â Kona BBQ ribs are ok. Â Lamb shank or Kona ribs are your best bet if you love meat. Â If you don't like meat, Macadamia nut crusted fish and chips with mango salsa is good for $8.50 (only served during lunch). Â Stay away from wok-fired plates and Asian infused rice bowls...you can get better quality at Panda. Â For dessert, I only recommend Wonton Sundae and Ice Cream Mud Pie.
The 4 star rating is for the bar. Â The restaurant, eh, I can care less about the food they offer.
So anywhos. Â My cousins took me out to Elephant Bar to celebrate my birthday because I am finally legal to drink! :D Â Yay me! Â I can finally use my own id, ;D
We went around 10 on a Saturday night, which happened to be happy hour. Â & boy was there a superrrr lot of people there. Â All of the booths and tables were occupied, & nobody looked like they were leaving. Â So we had to sit at the bar. Â I didn't mind sitting at the bar, but we were short a chair because everything was taken. Â But being the nice person that I am, I shared my seat, :) Â
Everyone's food looked good & fresh. Â They ordered the burger, & salad wrap thingys. Â I only ordered sweet potato fries, because I can't really eat & drink. Â Some of the drinks were good, others were ehhh. Â The house margaritas, I will pass from now on. Â The Mai Tai was ok, wish it was sweeter. Â I ended up passing that off to one of my cousins, luckily he was thirstyyy, haha. Â I did enjoy the shots, like the Scooby Doo. Â We also had the Super Man drink; my cousin loved that. Â I just drank it to drink, :) Â The only drink I really enjoy is the Strawberry Daquiri. Â It doesn't get the job done, but it's so delish! :)
Btw, the bartenders that night were really nice & accommodating. Â They would sweeten the drinks for me if I didn't like em too much, & even found us an extra chair. Â
I had fun at Elephant Bar, mostly because I always have fun with my cousins. Â Also, I learned to not mix mixed drinks from now on. Â :D
3 1/2
I have to round down because the only reason it is high is that I had a really good coupon. Came here with a group of friends. Me and my GF got the Pacific Rim Shrimp, or something like that. Normally it is 15 bucks, we got it for 9. If I had paid full price I don't think I would have been as happy. It was pretty good however. My other friends liked their, Ahi tuna, sweet and sour chicken, and a Philly cheese steak. We ordered 2 Chocolate Mudpies that were good, but huge. We could have gotten one to share, and the server mentioned it but I don't think anyone paid attention so our bad. The food came out pretty quick as well. I don't know how much my friends bill came out to so I can judge on that. We liked our food and generally had a good time. If my bill had been the 15 bucks more though I think things would be different.
There are only a limited number of places to dine in Stockton. Of course, Stocktonians rejoiced when we got an Elephant Bar a couple of years ago, but really, this is just your typical chain restaurant.
One time when I was here for a friend's birthday, our server was very rude to my friend. My friend thought that he had gotten my order wrong and told him. I understand that he was upset that my friend accused him of getting an order wrong, but he could've dropped the 'tude and been a little more professional. He also wasn't the most attentive server in the world. We had to ask multiple times for ranch sauce. Other times that I've been here, we had to wait at least five minutes after being seated by the hostess before our servers came and took drink orders. Simply stated, service is just sloppy and slow here. The food isn't bad, but poor service kills the experience.
2.5 stars
(SIGH) Another overrated place. Â The atmosphere is awesome, but it doesn't compliment the food. Â The service is great. Â
I had a couple of drinks before my meal came out and I was very dishearten about the portion, when it arrived. Â I paid twenty some dollars for this? Â I question myself... Did I order an overprice kids meal? Â Â
I got over the portion issue and I was ready to eat. Â Remember I had a couple of drinks and food usually taste a lot better than what it suppose to be, but everything was so bland.
I came here after work for dinner and I skip lunch at work. Â So I was starving and buzz, but the food didn't hit the taste bud or even close to fill me up. Â I had to stop by Jack In The Box on the way home and I was a happy camper after that.
I remember being so excited about Elephant Bar opening up in Stockton because I heard so many good things about it from people from the Bay. It didn't take too long before I came to realize that their food just doesn't float my boat.
I took my little sis here the first time and ordered their sushi dish with soup and some mongolian beef. Turns out their sushi is pretty forgettable and skimpy too. The so-called soup tasted like water with a pinch of chicken bouillon. The mongolian beef was alright, but it was over cooked and really salty like they had used tons of soy sauce to make it.
It was pretty disappointing the first visit but I came back a few more times to try out other dishes. I concluded that their food is like average fast food at best. It's a shame because it's such a beautiful restaurant, but when it comes to a real dining experience, good food is everything.
between meh and ok. Again I am not a fan of chains but, sometimes my companions (co-workers mostly) prefer these types of places. The service was prompt and done right, food just okay. It is a beautiful restaurant and would probably be fun with a large party. It's loud and not much separates the bar from the dining area.
On another completely different note, I am so happy they tore down the old Lyons restaurant. It was such an eye sore. I have some great college memories of that coffee shop/all night diner right across the street from Delta College-come to think of it I may have even spent some nites in the bar back in the day. Saw my very first streaker one night while sitting in Lyon's having coffee with friends after a concert. If you don't know what a streaker is yelpers, go on wiki, I'm sure you'll get an answer.
I am sorta a fan of Elephant Bar, though I found myself somewhat... not too impressed after my meal at this location.
I ordered the seared ahi tuna rice bowl and after biting into the rice.... it was where I wished I would've just ordered the tuna by itself... The texture of the rice was hard.. dry... just completely wrong..
The tuna itself was tasty, and everything else was great... but I dunno what was up with the rice.. and though I ate most of it.. it was just.... ruined the whole experience for me.
Even though the food ended up being odd... the service was awesome thus my overall experience was... "a-ok".
I have eaten here twice and been disappointed both times. The first time, I made the mistake of going on prom night so the restaurant was jam packed with teenagers and so noisy I had to give my order three times. The waitress was really friendly but obviously unable to fulfill all her duties. The food was barely warm when we finally got it and then the waitress charged me for someone else's (much more expensive) dinner. It took me weeks to get the charges refunded.
The second time I ate here, my food was hot but overcooked and tasteless. It was still too noisy in the restaurant. I do not understand why they are always so busy.
This place totally SUCKS!!!! Like really!!! Me and my Husband went in after shopping at the mall and realize we have never ate here. So went in and how do you run this place without a hostess??? HEY ELEPHANT BAR IF YOU WANT PEOPLE TO SIT THEMSELVES THEN SAY SO....WITH A SIGN OR SOMETHING.
I was standing there with no one helping me for like 10 mins! No one was behind me or in front of me!! WTF! anyway we finally got seated and our server couldn't be anymore slow! Come on sweetie I work with food too I can run laps around you!! Pick it up!
Our Food wasn't hot, our server never refilled out drinks, and how does it take 20 mins to be me back my card, when im trying to pay and leave!!! what are you doing??
This place is a joke and it's nasty!! DON'T EAT HERE!!!
Great service abounds if you get the right person at this establishment. Tough Rare sinewy tritip, tepid whatever that I ate that wasn't significant balance the rest. A nice restaurant with lousy food.
My dad had a shrimp combo platter featuring overcooked chewy deep fried shrimp and other shrimp variations.
What a wonderful restaurant, beautiful decor, nice service, definitely a 5 star restaurant waiting to happen or during a drunk binge.
Tons of different foods to choose, not all food on the menu is listed on nutrition chart, by the way the ingredients here would certainly kill someone if they ate here daily. For example my tritip tragedy was not on the nutrition chart. I was told this is a seasonal favorite that escapes the nutrition clause.
Oh yeah did I say awesome waitress, she rocks and earned all 3 stars. The food well I could have bought similar frozen food from Safeway's and I would have a better meal. Yaay Banquet!!!

MORAL OF THE STORY IS IF YOU HAVE TO DO THE ELEPHANT DO IT DRUNK.
I forgot to mention if you are over 60 (I think), okay if you are a SENIOR then you can apply for a 20 percent DISCOUNT.

Do NOT go here, I repeat do NOT go here. What you pay for is the ambiance (Oh how neat are the cool fans up above? And the big booths & the bar) but the food is TERRIBLE. Their food is just plain gross to me. Artificial chinese food or something. I don't really like going to big chain restaurants like these and now I remember why. Â I even ordered the most simple dish...orange chicken and it was a hot mess. The chicken tasted like rubber. Not one person at my table was satisfied with their dish and we had waaaay too many left overs, but I ended up just throwing mine away.
I give them only one star for food & service. We were greeted by one waitress but then another waitress hopped in to "help" our first waitress. There were times when no one was even waiting on us because each waitress "thought" the other waitress came by our table already. And we had to ask for our refills and we had TWO waitresses? What's up with that? I'm sure they were busy, but having TWO waitresses and no service?? Â Come on now.
Plus, the food took an hour to come out and we were all disappointed with our dishes. Sad day..boo hoo. Â :P
For Stockton, this place is pretty good. However, the food here is pretty average. They do have an asian fusion for foods which is nice. But the food is not that great and there isn't much of a selection.
The service needs work. It is very busy and they ignore their customers. They do need to improve that.
Their bar is very nice though. And their drinks are delicious.
Not bad for another chain building its way into Stockton. Â I highly recommend the Salmon Tempura Rolls, those are delicious! Â Drink prices are pretty good, there is a vast selection of a cocktail menu. Â On the down side, this place gets TOO crowded (probably because it is new). Â Although, for crowds, the service is pretty good, much better than the Elephant Bar in Cupertino. Â Maybe too good to the point where it got a little annoying? Haha. Â Sure beats BJ's, though, where they like... forget you exist. :( Â I also ordered the Caesar Salad with Teriyaki Chicken. Â The salad was pretty good, but the grilled chicken on top tasted nothing like teriyaki. Â Overall, not a bad place. Â I definitely will come back for those Salmon Rolls... Â
We came back again late night for drinks and appetizers, and that was a nice treat as well. Â The Olu Mai Tai is DELICIOUS! Â There's happy hour from 4:30-6:30 where apptizers are significantly discounted. Â We may return for that!
I'm torn. Â
While waiting at the counter, no line in front of us. Â It took 3 people (hosts) to hear that I wanted a table for 2. Â The third person, sent the second person away to take care of a take out order. Â As I was still standing there, she said to me, 'Do you have a problem?'
There were 3 possibilities of an answer:
a. Â Yes, you twat, I need a mother fucking table for 2.
b. Â Mother Fucker, I just had my xanax and am way too relaxed to cuss you out.
c. Â Table for 2, please.
Well, the answer is both b and c. Â I 'thought' 'b' but said 'c'. Â These Elephant people sure are lucky that Amanda ended up being our server. Â She was a sweet little thing. Â Helpful, full of suggestions and prompt to boot.
I ordered the Thai Salad, husband ordered the tri tip.... we had spring rolls to start off with. Â Food was excellent. Â Salad was crisp, and perfectly tossed. Â Husband's tri-tip was cooked to perfection. Â Too full to eat dessert, I ordered the giant cookie sundae thing 'to-go'. Â Yeah, 'to-go' in my belly. Â I had 3 bites and thought I was going to blow up.
Walking out, that snotty little shit was still at the greeting counter. Â I was still mellow enough to not flip out.
3 stars.... maybe 3.5. Â But not 4.
Yes! I love Elephant Bar. Â And gentle, sensitive, real-life elephants as well. Â although, i prolly wouldn't dine with one. Â they prolly stink too...do you think they do in real life? Â I heard that they roll around in mud, like pigs, to clean off, and stuff. Â I wonder if it takes the smell away...well anyway...just a few words for this place:
-Came in during pre-tasting.
-Had fried stuff (w/ ranch dippable capa-possibilities)
-Had un-fried stuff (tasted like the fried stuff)
-Girlfriend & I said "uh, no" at the same time, while eating this forgettable burger-thing with avocado, & both reached for the ketchup bowl (I like it saucy) at the same time (it was cute)
-GREAT SERVICE!!!
-New location, forgiveness level high, forgettable food (love the Burlingame location [make-u-pee-onda-spot good food])
-Girlfriend looked cute that night. ; )
This Elephant bar opened soon after the BJ's down the street, but the difference between these two were night and day. Â Where BJ's service is inexperienced, aloof and confused the crew at Elephant Bar seems well trained. Â Our server came from the Campbell location. Â
The food is also much better and because of the excellent wait staff the food was served hot unlike the cold food they served us at BJ's.
The bartenders know what their doing. Â They're not just slinging beer around. Â We killed some time at the bar waiting for our table. Â My martinis, gimlets and kamikazis were great. Â The bartender made sure my tab was transferred to our table when it was ready.
So the next time you find yourself on Pacifc Ave by the malls Elephant bar would be the best choice.
