***This used to be a good steakhouse in an interesting, local atmosphere (it was also not too expensive); they switched to lower quality beef and the food really suffered; I believe it is now closed***
When I was younger, my sister used to love to come here because it was actually one of the better steakhouses in rural Southern Ohio. Â The Emmitt House used to be a hotel in the 1800s. Â Now, it is just a restaurant.
I went here over the winter, and the quality has significantly decreased. Â The house salad (a little old-fashioned) was fine. Â So were the mashed potatoes. Â However, the steak was pretty bad. Â It was a ribeye, and there was hardly any marbling in the meat. Â They brought out the steak on one of those sizzling plates--the only problem was that it wasn't sizzling.
I ordered my ribeye medium rare. Â I cut into the steak, and it was pink (really cooked medium). Â The steak was very dry (due to the small amount of fat in the steak).
Most restaurants specializing steak typically serve (at minimum) Choice graded meat. Â My guess is that Emmitt House used to, but went with a lower quality meat to save costs. Â Too bad.
