I for some reason always forget about this place, but every time I have been here it has been good. I have always had amazing service, which is extremely hard to find in this town. The strawberry salad is so good! Not a lot of appetizers to pick from but the portions of salad and my entree are enough to fill me up. I always get the Filet Mignon. A little salty but a great quality of meat. The desserts are good too. One of my favorite things about this restaurant is the atmosphere. It is so warm and cozy. I enjoy coming here to have a relaxing meal, don't be in a hurry.
Review Source:The food is priced as though it was a top steakhouse, i.e. $35+ steaks and overall an expensive menu that would make you believe the quality was on par with Ruth's Chris, Morton's and the like. Considering I eat at these restaurants pretty regularly, the comparisons must be made if the price point is there. In this restaurant's case, it is shockingly bad. My Ribeye steak was thin, overly cooked (ordered medium-rare), and drenched in a starchy, very salty sauce that was obviously done to hide the quality of the meat. The potatoes were extremely heavy on garlic and were unbearable after two bites. By the time the waiter asked my girlfriend and I for dessert, we didn't even bother. Our consensus opinion about the restaurant was that the management catered to an older crowd with a less acute palate which resulted in all the foods being heavily saturated in excess flavors, sauces, and salt. I was left feeling embarrassed for the hotel because it clearly deserves a better restaurant given the quality that it exudes in all other areas.
Review Source:This was our first visit and we were not impressed. We arrived a few minutes prior to our reservation time. As I was checking in with the hostess, a lady interrupts and asks the hostess 'do you have room for us?' Â Instead of saying I will be right with you after I seat these people that have a reservation, she tells the lady 'sure.' The hostess shows us into the dining room and I asked if we could have the cozy 2-person table in the corner. The hostess said that that table was going to be used for the (rude) lady that interrupted us and had no reservation! So we had to sit at a 4-person table in the middle of the room. Not happy!
The appetizer menu is limited; we were lucky that Coconut Shrimp was a special for the evening. It was good.
My bf asked our server if the steak was Prime. The server, obviously not trained in cuts of meat, said 'it's Angus, top of the line.' Well, actually, Angus is a type of cattle, not a cut of meat, so Angus actually has no bearing on the taste or tenderness of the meat. The steak was flat and smothered in a rich sauce meant to cover up the fact that the meat is not Prime, or even Choice. I don't think people from the Paso area have ever been to a Ruth's Chris, or Fleming's or Morton's.
The salmon I had was not high quality, and like the steak, the lack of quality was covered up by the very salty corn/bacon/onion medley. I should have ordered my first choice, the Coconut Crusted Halibut.
However, I did like that the bartender was willing to experiment and make me my favorite drink - a Key Lime Martini.
