I am so happy that my friend and I took a little turn and got onto Business 13 and stopped at the Exmore Diner.  It returned me to the 50s and my teenage years with its appearance.  It is small and nostalgic.  It is very up to date with the quality of service and the taste of the food.  I had a crab cake sandwich and french fries.  That crab cake sandwich is worth a review in itself!.  the fries were not over salted- which is a healthy note.  The portions were generous, the price was very reasonable, and the servers were well schooled and very efficient..
My only regret is that I live in the Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania and that is a long way to Exmore VA

As someone who grew up in a region full of old-fashioned diners, The Exmore Diner was a welcome sight on our trip up to Chincoteague Island. From the neon sign and clock on the outside to the cozy interior with the long counters and spinning stools, I knew I was in for a treat.

The service was friendly! I was impressed by the variety of selections in the menu, though from what I gathered beforehand, I had to get some seafood. My main dish was crab cakes, green beans, sweet baked potato and corn bread and, let me tell you, I can't register a single complaint.

If you're heading up or down the Eastern Shore, you can't miss this place.

The Exmore Diner pleases once again - crab cakes, French toast, fried flounder sandwich, fried oysters, collards, fried apples, butter beans and milkshakes!

Love this place for its ambience, service and food.  I feel like I've stepped back in time each time we visit.

Great little diner! Loved the clam fritters, sweet potato fries and collard greens. All were excellent. Pies were ok - not as remarkable as the main dish and sides. Limited seating. We will be eating here again when we're in this area.

Exmore Diner is a small cozy, and Welcoming place that you won't be disappointed with at all. When you pull into the parking lot the establishment looks like a round trailer you'd see driving on the strip. Let me tell you... Park, walk in, sit, and enjoy some great food at a price you can't beat in the area (see photos for menu prices as of Summer 2013).

My Fiance' and I ordered the following:
Hamburger Steak (Smothered in gravy and onions)

Cheesesteak (8 oz. meat with provolone Cheese) **you can pick the cheese of your choice.

I will keep this review short and sweet... After driving 7hrs for CT, the last thing I wanted was eating at a chain resturant like Hardee's.... Exmore was worth it and met my expectations x2.

Ate breakfast there on the way to Chincoteague Island.

The eggs and home fries tasted like something my grandmother would make (in a totally good way)! It seemed like the kind of place where locals eat regularly and lucky tourists like us stumble upon! Service was fast and friendly, and it was fun to eat in an authentic American diner.

Our daughter is in the Navy at Norfolk and we had never went over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge (which is an extra great experience when a large ship is crossing over you as you go through one of the 2 tunnels) - so the Exmore Diner was a bit further up the road - but well worth the drive (and if you are going on up or down the VA/MD Eastern Shore it's not out of the way at all).

Fresh seafood at a reasonable price - that alone could/should be the main selling point.  But it has character beyond being just another roadside diner with great and friendly service. And given that most of the crowd bypasses it on the main highway rather that turn off on the business route for Exmore - it's their loss, and just as well due to limited seating.

I ordered the crab-cake and my wife ordered the scallops and we shared.  Our daughter, who can't eat shellfish had a hamburger (hamburger you say in a seafood dinner?).  Needless to say my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the seafood - and our daughter stated the burger beats 5 Guys at half the price.  We topped this great meal off by sharing a generous slice of fresh baked strawberry pie (two big for only one).

The cost for all, around $30 (some seafood places charge this for one plate - with way less taste and poorer quality).

If I was ever planning to make it that way again I may not want to write this rave about the quality for the price at the Exmore Diner - it is a great place most locals probably would like to be kept secret.

The sunset over the bay provided a great end to this wonderful experience.

Just had excellent breakfast here. Price is unbeatable and local friendly service you should expect everywhere, but never find.

This is one of the best places on the eastern shore of virginia to eat.  Good solid comfort food.  Eggs, bacon, biscuits and grits for breakfast.  The other day I had a lunch of grilled pork chops, collard greens and yams, with a chocolate milkshake for dessert.  All excellent.

pleasant atmosphere, especially if you are a diner fan (I am!). Food was decent, nothing to write home about.

awesome diner.  it's just about 60 SECONDS off the main road, and about 1/4 mile away from a mcdonalds and a hardees.  the food is FAST and homemade and good.  and it's priced the way diner food should be priced!  it's likely cheaper than the much more popular fast food places around the corner.  support a local independent.  as mentioned in earlier reviews, a great throw back type restaurant.

We had lunch there.  First, it's a diner!  Very neat to eat in one of those buildings.  Friendly waitress.

I had drum ribs (drum is a fish; in this case apparently a large one; it tastes like fish but I liked it as is and with the tartar sauce).  These "ribs" are long bones with a reasonable amount of meat around them, breaded and fried.  Grab an end of the bone and pull it out (it's smooth) and dip the meat in tartar sauce; it's very good.  I also had collards and mashed potatoes.  Excellent meal, though certainly not fancy.  My wife had butterfly shrimp, slaw and french fries.  I can testify the shrimp tasted quite good and am told the slaw was also.

Good food, good price, neat place to eat, friendly service; I'd go back in a minute.

This place should be on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.  Stopped in driving up from Norfolk and I am glad that I did.  All food is homemade with a great selection.  I had the fried drum special with mashed potatoes and collards.  A great throwback restaurant - they don't make them like this anymore.

Great place to eat. We ate there on our way back from South Carolina. 1 block off the main highway but worth the right turn for sure!

My favorite fugitive on the planet and I stopped in here for some breakfast yesterday morning on our way back to Jersey from the long arm of the Virginia law. It came highly recommended by a woman at the courthouse in Eastville, VA.

The Exmore Diner obviously has it's regulars, and stays busy with hungry customers. It's a small diner with 5 or 6 booths for seating, along with a line of bar stools along the counter, where my friend and I were happy to take a seat. The staff here has that southern hospitality mixed with friendly terms of endearment one comes to expect below the Mason-Dixon Line. Refreshing to say the least.

I had the sausage gravy and biscuits, sausage link, and home fries, along with an egg sandwich with sausage and sharp cheddar (I actually ordered the sandwich with corned-beef, but I didn't want to make a fuss when it showed up with sausage.) My friend had the All American breakfast: 2 pancakes, 2 eggs, corned beef hash & home fries. We were both hoping for grits in place of the home fries, but they were out. I chalk it up to being pretty late in the morning, as we arrived just before they changed over to their lunch menu.

It was good and filling diner grub. I thought the sausage was especially tasty, not your average sausage by far. I did find myself overwhelmed by breakfast meats though. I should have had something sweet in the mix, thus I stole a few good bites of pancake from the plate of my partner in crime.

We were briefly worried this down-home small diner might not accept credit cards, but were delighted to find they are up with the times and actually do! Makes me feel some places in NYC that don't could obviously step into the present if this place can do it.

We left stuffed, and couldn't even finish our plates. For a mere $20. I mean stuffed to the point we were content with not eating anything for the rest of the day, aside from a few handfuls of meltedly chocolate trail mix. (92 degrees + no A/C on a 6-hour drive does not fair well for bits of chocolate amongst a bag of nuts.)

This is the sort of place where most people know each other and come every day. My parents eat breakfast here most days. When I'm home I come with them sometimes and get to have good food and meet interesting locals. I love getting a pancake with sharp cheddar - awesome!

It's been a while since I've been to the Exmore Diner, but when I was a kid this place served the best "home-cooked" meal outside of actually being a home cooked meal! This place is a complete summing up of my grade school years and I look forward to getting back to it as soon as possible!

This is not a diner wanna be, but a true step back in time.... they have been open for over 50 years for a reason.  The food is great, as well as the fountain treats. ,  Fries, burgers and dogs might be what you would expect, but they have so much more!  We got great sandwiches... crab cake and a poboy fried oyster sandwich. The milkshakes were yummy, and the birch beer was an amazing surprise.   Did I mention the sweet potato fries?  Served up with sugar and cinnamon, mmmmmmmm.  The desserts in the case in the corner looked decadent and delicious, but there was no room in the bellies... .  We'll have to stop by again, just for something sweet!

    Fresh, affordable seafood, hometown atmosphere.

My faves:  softshell crab sandwich ($6.95 w/ fries or chips), oyster dinner ($10.25, 2 sides), crab cake sandwich ($4.95 w/ fries or chips.).

About 10 seats at the counter and about 6 booths that seat 4 each.

This place is a REAL diner. Not some burger place dressed up like a diner for the sake of nostalgia. It's full of locals and the food is great. My parents have a house near here and they often eat here twice a day when they are in town! Exmore isn't exactly a hot spot of vacation activity so the crowd is always about 90%+ local. The food is local too, with great seafood from the bay - crab cakes, fried oysters, clam fritters, soft-shelled crab, etc. mmmmmm.  The only downside (at least for us Californian types) is the lack veggies. Last time we were here, my wife asked what additional vegetables they had and the response was, "Well, we have fried apples...". But let me tell you, those fried apples are darn good!
