We came in here for a fast Happy Hour dinner. Â Good drinks, sat at the bar. Â Since it was early on a Saturday - 5:45 - the place had hardly any one there. Â They changed the TV (several good size flat screens) Â to the channel we wanted to watch, turned us onto the generous Happy Hour food menu and took good care of us. Â
We were suprised at how good the BBQ was - really really good. Â The regular menu cheeseburger plate was anemic looking. Â My friend said it tasted fine - but he liked my BBQ. Â They have alot table seating away from the bar. Â We'll go back when in the area.
The food was excellent. I got the extra hot chicken sandwich (wasn't hot at all in my opinion but then again, I cook with cut up habaneros). The sandwich was huge and I had to save half for dinner lol. But they could afford to give more fries I'm just saying.
The reason this place will not be receiving five stars from me today is because of how long it took to bring my food. I ordered around 12:10 and got my food around 12:50!! For a chicken sandwich!! My taste buds had gone to sleep by the time I got that mess and I had to take it go! People that came after me got their food before me. I don't know what went on in that kitchen but yeah that was unpleasant.
I'll be back though. The sandwich was that good.
I love, love, love the pizza here!!!!! The wings and nachos are great too! Â We have been here when they have bands and had alot of fun! The owners are a young couple that are out to please their customers and often work as bartenders. My husband and I go to Fats often and keep going for the service, food, and atmosphere!
Review Source:I was really excited for $2 drinks and a bar to go on Wednesday that was open to Pacific students only. Â The drinks are nice and strong but I think it's to get you all liquored up to forget about the promise of "only Pacific students." Â Pretty sure they don't enforce that rule at all- I've encountered way too many creepy townies for my liking.
I honestly think it's for sketchy Stockonians to prey on drunk Pacific girls- or at least that was my experience the few times I've gone.
It's not the worst place to go- I'm sure if some of my friends really wanted to go I'd join, but I wouldn't put it up there on my favorite bars by any means.
I'm always up for another experience to prove me wrong, so maybe in the future my opinion will change.
For right now, there's a Fat chance that I'll be going to this bar any time soon.
I came here because they had the NFL network.
I had a few pitchers of beer and the 30 platter of wings. It all went down very well together.
The service (a.k.a Bartender) was somewhat non-attentive and frequently seemed to forget about my group of 15 people. My group comprised the majority of people in the bar so it was a little hard to miss us.
Other than that, a good time was had by all. I'd go back if I needed to watch a game on the NFL network or if I worked for the local parole/ probation office and had to do a sweep.
PROS
$2 drinks on Wednesday nights
Free cover for UoP students on Wednesday nights
Closed to UoP students only on Wednesday nights (supposedly)
Pretty damn good drinks
KARAOKE MACHINEEEE!
CONS
Not the biggest area to hang around
Kind of too crowded for my taste
Overall, pretty decent place to go on a Wasted Wednesday night with your friends. I went on a night that all the students decided to go out so having the place being filled with mostly students made it pretty fun and easy to ignore the creepers.
Nothing too special, but not all that bad!
Sunday Night Karaoke energy was killed by the KJ. Â Nice bar. Â Good Food. Â The waiters were attentive even though they were understaffed for the evening, they kept up with the demand. Â The crowd was full of energy, but that did not stop the KJ from doing his best to kill the energy. Â One of those KJs that was talking on the cell phone, Â off chatting with friends, Singers repeatedly asked him to turn up the music track on the Karaoke so they could hear the music they were attempting to sing to he refused. Â On the other hand where there were people waiting in the rotation to sing he keep playing cover songs. Â One client asked him why are you not calling singers, his claim was he wanted to play music for people to dance to. Â He did not note that there were no people dancing. Â Most people in the club came to sing and listen to singers. Â This KJ uses real CDs. Â The music selection was quite limited. Â Not very many Sound Choice albums. Â Bottom line is I wish the place would improve the Karaoke experience or drop advertising the Karaoke. Â If you did a lot of planning and preparation to go out for an evening of singing you will be disappointed.
Review Source:Not my favorite place to hang out.
I only go on Wednesdays for no cover and $2 shots. I've never gotten much of a buzz from the drinks, so I've convinced they're pretty weak. The major thing I dislike about this place are the creeps that like to hang out around the bar. I got my leg felt up one time and I jetted out of the vicinity instantly.
However, when you get there early before it starts getting crowded, it's a fun place to go with friends.
This has been my local bar of choice for as long as I can remember. A friendly atmosphere mixed with great food and cheap drinks just makes it all the better. Back in the day, I used to work at a (now closed) shop around the corner from FATs. Me and the boss used to stop in every other night after work for drinks and chit-chat. Many a good memory about this place.
I hadn't visited in a few months, but I had an occasion to do so last night. A friend of mine passed a long awaited test and I rewarded her by driving her down from Sacramento for, what I consider to be, some of the best burgers in Stockton. She loved it and I was given the ability to reacquainted myself with the place.
All that aside, FATS has a comfortable setting, with non-obtrusive music, a friendly staff and a small selection of arcade games. I feel that the MC's could be a bit less pushy on karaoke nights (the last time I was there for a drink on one such night, I actually had to tell the guy to leave me alone rather loudly before he got the message that I wasn't interested). Thankfully, they keep a safe environment, I've never seen any fights and I've read that most situations like that are headed of before anything happens.
If you're looking for a place with great food with a pleasant experience, FATs is worth a look.
Well, I gave this place at least 4 chances to keep me coming back and unfortunately I've yet to have a decent experience in this place.
Yesterday was "family karaoke night" at 5:30 in the god damn evening! Who in the hell?! Had I known I was going to be listening to children sing (SCREAM) Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, No More Monkeys Jumping On The Bed, and the fucking Hokey Pokey I would have killed myself before hand to spare myself the horror.
Never ever ever ever again.
I would go crazy if it were not for the best day time customers in the world. All of you know who you are from fellow restraunt workers to professional business people you all rock. Great lunch that no one seams to know about, stop by and try one of our "TO DIE FOR" sandwhiches. This is the real deal, the closest thing to "CHEERS" Â Mon.-Fri. 11:00AM to 5:00PM you will ever find.
Review Source:i haven't been in yeeears...but still CRAVE Â the doughnut things that you put honey on.
people. i literally haven't been to Fat's for...mmm, maybe 5 years?...and I am STILL thinking about these things. if not for any other reason (they do serve alcohol..haha)..go for the doughnut things!. out of this world!
I haven't been to this place in years. Â Last night, we stumbled in... 5 dollar cover, live band... not too crowded... ok, NOT crowded. Â Very tasty cosmo. Â Almost got my ass beat by a FlashDance reject. Â Was the only person on the dance floor rocking out to this very cool sounding band... The Garden Gnomes.... scored a free CD. Â AND my husband happened to go to high school with the drummer. Â
Saw some very interesting characters. Â I need to get out more often. Â
The tables were sticky. Â The person that I think was the cocktail waitress was drunk off her ass, wearing what appeared to be her leotard and very tight and shiny pants, with 5 roses in her hair was obviously more concerned with nursing her beer than taking care of the joint.
They have an interesting calendar of events. Â I would definitely go back.... not for an ass whooping. Â For the live music.
fats is a cool place to grab a bite. Ate here a couple times in my younger days. Not really my favorite location because of the parking but still a nice place. There is always some sort of entertainment there which is usually worth checking out. Grab some food, listen to some tunes and just relax. Bring some of your friends for a great fun place to chill for drinks.
Review Source:I've eaten here thousands of times, but not once since June 2003. Â We hosted our son's H S graduation party here and got burned very badly. Â Apparently a large group of "the regular guys", close friends of the owners, had a get together just prior to our party, and they ate all our food. Â I couldn't get the owner/manager on duty that night to sell me enough "additional" racks of ribs to feed our guests. It was embarrassing and ridiculous. Â I was charged $10 extra for each half-rack and he claimed there was only 2-3 available to purchase. We needed and would have paid for about 10 more racks.
Our party was scheduled for approx. 30 people. Â 28 sat for dinner, with a couple of stragglers arriving later.
Instead of celebrating and enjoying myself with our family and friends, I found myself back in the kitchen arguing with the staff, trying to make sense of what they had available to feed my guests. Â It was a nightmare that still makes me cringe. Â And no, I'm NOT gonna just get over it! Â It WAS a bad scene... and I was arguing in Espanol, even though I don't speak it!
Another sad fact: Â I was "friends" with one of the original co-owners, and had supported this place from their very first night. Â I never even bothered him with my complaints -- he had moved on to a new job -- I just stopped spending my time and money here.
I give them two stars reluctantly -- as the food is okay and the sopapillas outstanding, and Matt used to take really good care of us back in the day.
Let me be frank.
If I didn't "get" the people of Stockton, I wouldn't come here. Â But when the cute, happy-go-lucky bartender comes out of the bathroom, bragging about her breast-pump production, and then without skipping a beat, says, "and what can I get you to drink? Â I have to smile.
An excuse for class, just may well be, character.
Great pizza too!
my roommate lovingly refers to the yummy fried donut-ish things they serve here with honey as "fluffy little while clouds". luckily, i speak fluent crazy roommate, and i know what she is talking about. i also enjoy the pizza, but i wouldn't pay the cover (often for live music). because this is stockton, not LA. and we shouldn't have to pay cover.
unless it's for karaoke. which is worth almost any price.
Good place to get lunch since it's very slow during the day; not uncommon for the bartender service the tables alone til midafternoon. Â Friendly service, they're happy to chat you up or leave you be as you wish. Â Thumbs up for the ambiance, you almost can't see all the one dollar bills under the scribbles. Â Fifteen TVs all over the place, and a couple arcade/claw machines to entertain the kids; family friendly (kids eat free with paid adult Tuesdays 4-9 pm). Â Haven't tested their nightlife (bar/pizza available after posted restaurant hours above), but I hear it's your typical sports bar.
I recommend the classic half-pounder with additions of choice; their philly cheese steak doesn't taste like the real thing but it's still yummy. Â Hearty, filling food. Â Their fries are good with ketchup, I think they're the only place I've seen that seasons them with something like Lawry's seasoned salt. Â Beware of the spicy chicken sandwich, it's pretty disappointing. Â Their calzones run meal-sized rather than snack-sized. Â Next time I go, I'm trying the sopapillas... can $2 really disappoint?
Gigantic oysters drizzled in cheese, larger in portion than at Garlic Brothers and oh so good. Â I must find out what Asian supermarket their cook gets them from. Â Hello, Blue Moon, you are wonderful. Â Their other appetizers are quite good: hot wings that the fellas loved, garlic bread thick with cheese, and the crazy mini crudo. Â Of everything we sampled, the lemon prawns were probably the least impressive, with a bit too much coarse black pepper and not enough lemon on the red bell pepper kabobs. Â Awesome service.
I've gone here twice now and both times the place was more or less deserted. (Lunch time and just before the night rush) The food is excellent, hands down. I definitely wish I would've known this place existed earlier. I recommend either the BLT or their Chicken Sandwich. They have quite a variety of food and I'm willing to bet that it's all good.
