By far my favorite drinking establishment in town...I live in Geogia but travel to Alexandria bi-weekly on business. I am always looking for opportunities to get out of my hotel room. Upon the request of a customers I decided to check Finnegans Wake out and was plesently surprised. The atmosphere is great...something you would expect to find on River Street, Savannah or on the main square in Dublin, Ireland...not Alexandria, La....and let's not forget the drink selection. If you like good beer on tap this is the place to go.
Above all, the social dynamic makes this "Pub" a five star rating. There is a very loyal customer base, but unlike many bars, the local patrons are very welcoming of newcomers. In my case I was traveling alone and it was obvious that I was the only stranger in the bar. By the end of the night I new everyone in the bar including the two owners.
This is the only place I will go in Alex for drinks that is not a restaurant. I will first off admit that I am a little biased bc I love everyone who works here and owns the place. It is like our own personal Cheers...but awesome. I have been a patron since the day the doors opened and will continue being one until they shut. Always bringing in great live bands, have a party of some theme or another and a huge staple of downtown (which is fledgling to say the least). Great variety of imports and bottles and the means to make any mixed drink you can think of. It's also pretty dang nice to look at. If you were ever in the space's previous incarnations you would know how much work Galen and Shannon put into this place and how much it is appreciated by all who frequent it! And if you are a fan of The Walking Dead or awesome movies you can frequently find those playing on a Sunday night.
Review Source:This place is going to be here a long time--longer than many of its predecessors. Â So many bars have come and gone in Alexandria's downtown area. Â 'The pub' as most people call it, appeals to such a broad range of people. This has directly contributed to its longevity. Â It's like Alexandria's "Rick's Cafe American" from Bogart's Casablanca EVERYONE goes to 'the pub' from the working stiffs to the suits they all come at one point or another.
