I arrived in Ketchikan fairly late on a Friday night. Â The cruise ships had left and the town was "rolling up the sidewalks". Â Fish Pirates was still open so I stopped in for a beer and a bite. Â The place was fine, but fairly "generic" and average. Â Prices were higher than what I thought it might be worth, but I suppose that's the reality in a SE AK town - especially in a place that makes its living off of the captive cruise ship trade. Â
Fine if you're looking for this sort of joint, but nothing of special noteworthiness...
This place is definitely open and extremely busy when we were there on July 9 or 10th (time blends on a cruise) because the cruise ships really pack in the people.
Our server was rather harried when she sat us and said "I'm really busy, I'll be with you just as soon as I can".
My wife replied "No problem, I can see you're swamped. Take your time" - we were in no hurry and you'd be surprised how nice a server can be when you treat them like people instead of indentured servants.
Our server came back all smiles and really friendly, chatted with us a bit, took our orders and was off. Such a nice lady.
We both had the halibut fish and chips and beers, and it hit the spot just fine.
There was an older gentleman with a big white mustache and even bigger cowboy hat, playing guitar and singing, and you'd have sworn it was Johnny Cash. He had such a warm, rich voice. Quite a talented musician.
Overall a wondeful time and I wish we lived a lot closer so we could go here more often.
This place was horrible as a dining experience. If u want beer and chili cheese fries you'll be good to go. If you want more than that I wouldn't bother. The pizza was decent but my friends "halibut" taco was leftover fins and lips at best and they charged them $16 for it after not cooking it as ordered. Then they decided it would be a good idea to fire up a saw and go to town on the bar during prime dinner hour. Even yelling i couldn't hear somebody 2 feet away. Do yourself a favor and don't eat there.
