Flanagan's Restaurant

Everything an Adirondack bar and grill should be. Rustic decor and lots of draft beers.
The casual "pub" menu offers soups and burgers, some seriously good wings,  and pizzas and such. The summer tourist season strains the capacity of the dining room and the kitchen, so sit back, sip on a beer, and remember why you came to the Adirondacks in the first place. If you can't relax here you need counseling - speak to the bartender. I'll be the tall one at the bar with the Pinot.

Let me state this up front--I have not ordered food or drink here because I was not given the opportunity. They seemed to have an okay selection of craft beers, which is admirable, especially considering they're way out in the boonies.

I've been visiting Schroon Lake for 24 years, family members own a home there. For most of that time, I was underage so I had never visited Flanagan's.

Early last fall I stopped in here for a beer (we had already eaten) with three friends while walking through town on a Saturday night around 8:30 or 9. There were no seats left at the bar, but there was not a soul sitting at ANY table in the restaurant area. We asked for a table and we were told we had to order dinner there to get a table, drinks weren't good enough. I explained to the hostess that we didn't need table service, we were happy to go get our drinks at the bar, we just wanted a place to sit. No, she told us, we could only have a table if we ordered dinner, she had to save the tables for customers who ordered food. Trying to remain polite, I asked her where these dinner customers were coming from and when they might arrive--it's 9 o'clock in a tiny vacation town and it's not vacation season anymore. She was not open to reasoning with me and became very rude. If we wanted to patronize the establishment and wouldn't buy dinner, she told us, we would have to wait till seats opened up at the bar.

So we left and I will probably go another 24 years before I go here in search of a beer. I can't understand a bar that turns away customers because they "just want a drink," especially when business is obviously slow. I guess next time I'll drive to Glens Falls.

was in the area on weekend vacation from nyc. biggest town within hour drive radius. we had little choice but to come to this area for food. one of the bartender had terrible attitude. she's like the school teacher that no one likes. personally i think bartenders are suppose to be fun, and she's just a debbie downer with a bad attitude. but i give the drinks a star cause my cocktail was really good, only 7 dollars so cheap(comin from new york)!
spinach artichoke dip was pretty tasty, salisbury steak was average, and their ginger glazed salmon was not so good. the salmon was frozen for sure and it was dry. i recommend completely thawing it out then keep on ice next time before cooking.
also the animal heads were freaking me out. im not a fan of hunting at all and i feel distracted and watched when eating my food by half cut up dead animals.
i mean seriously, imagine in a parallel universe, where the humans were the hunted and u see human heads with their necks stuck up on a wall. how is this normal and acceptable to people? i will never understand.
